Halloween ????
The real bear are the cereal, bread and stuff normal people should eat in healthy portions but had become my "healthy snacks" and contributed to my obesity. They should be able to have that in the house and I am doing better and better about not snacking on bread or cereal just because it is there. I am nearly 4 years post op and finally feel like I can walk buy Life Cereal and milk without the need to eat it. Damn you Mikey! Kids hate everything but I apparently LIKE everything! Omg I totally cracked up with this! I too LOVE CEREAL! ESPECIALLY LIFE! "Hey Mikey! He Liked it!" Love love love cereal. But not the regular kid with all the sugar stuff like fruit loops... no wait, I love fruit loops.. Ok not cereal like captain crunch etc The basic cereal like life, shreddies, and cheerios. Oh and frosted mini wheats. Oh and cracklin' oat bran - which I haven't seen in like 20 years Yeah I love cereal. Lol

1/2cup of food
I'm 4 weeks gastric bypass and my SUGGESTED diet plan intake amounts for an egg is 1/4-1/2 cup. But the operative word is "suggested." You don't have to eat what the diet plan says. Most likely you may never will. I have not once been able to eat the suggested amount. You have to slow down and really concentrate on what your body is telling you. I stop when all of a sudden I have this overall body "blah" feeling, or when I look at my meal and think "meh, I'm done." Remember your brain has to catch up to your stomach to realize it's full... by that time it could be too late; your stomach could be over full and you might find yourself unwell and/or experiencing dumping syndrome. Good luck and keep working with your tool

I guess its my turn!
You my friend, are AWESOME!!!! Very big congrats to you and your story is inspiring Not sure why a coworker would belittle you while at a work gathering - she had NO right to do that and it was a horrible thing to do. Did you talk to her about it? Bring it up to your boss? Isn't that some sort of harassment? Do you want me to kick her butt for you? I'm still hefty (for now) so I can throw my weight at her!!

What Was Your Final "straw That Broke The Camels Back"
I have a few: 1) I was diagnosed with DRESS syndrome in March 2015 - it would be terrible if I developed diabetes or heart issues but couldn't take medications for it (they both run in the family, my grandpa had his 1st heart attack at age 38, my mom at mid 40's.... I'm turning 40 soon) So after my second bout of DRESS in July, it really woke me up and made me think of my future. Trying to nip all possible future co-morbidities now that are or could be related to obesity. 2) went for a mini getaway with my sister in July and the absolute fear of not being able to find a wet suit or life jacket big enough for the white Water rafting practically paralyzed me. The next day we took our mountain bikes to ride a trail that supposedly people could ride their mountain bikes on. Pfffft who I have no idea because it was a treacherous trail and there was no way in hell we could ride our bikes on it. So we walked it while pushing our bikes. NOT FUN AT ALL! it was probably one of the toughest "workouts" I've ever done. It took us almost 4 hours and in the end my sister had to help me with my bike trekking it up super steep rocky terrain after she'd already gotten her bike up and had to come back down to help me with mine. Ugh!! And then afterwards we went to another touristy thing and we took the Gondola to the peak of a mountain and then I sat there while she hiked up the rest of the mountain for the best view. I sat there for over an hour. 3) a couple weeks after that mini getaway with my sis, we went for an EASY mountain trail ride... in 10 minutes I was so out of breath and had to tell her I wasn't up for it. (Although at the time I was still recovering from a flare up of DRESS and on high doses of steroids so that also wiped me out) We turned around and then the next thing I knew I was flying over my handle bars and crashed into the bushes. I think I passed out. I couldn't stop screaming from the pain for a good 15 minutes. My sister was helpless and I couldn't get up. Had some people help me and the worst part was that 2 paramedics, and 2 firemen had to come into the forest to get me... it took all 4 men to hoist me up onto the stretcher. Not to mention that they were all very nice to look at. Absolutely humiliating!! My poor sister was probably so embarrassed too because I made such a scene when I fell. I couldn't help it - I have never ever been in that much pain! I thought I broke my kneecap but nope just bruised it. It is now 3 months later and it's still swollen and bruised! I also bruised some ribs but those healed quickly. My poor sister! Anyways long winded reasons but those are my biggest most recent reasons.

Food has lost its grip on me
That made me laugh out loud because I totally know where you're coming from! "Wanna go to a movie?" Why yes I do!!! Don't care which one because I'm not actually going to the movie for the movie... I'm going because of MOVIE POPCORN! (with a little bit of butter in the middle and a little bit on top) I thought for sure it would KILL ME to go to a movie and smell my most favorite treat in the whole wide world... but it didnt. Not sure if that is the whole "change of smells after surgery thing" or that my mind has let go and I've gone awhile without (yummy) bad food and the cravings are on the down low. Either way I'm happy and I know that some day I'll have movie popcorn again but when I go to a movie - it's for the entertainment and not a binge-in-plain-sight-but-its-dark-so-nobody-sees-me kind of outing.

Ever heard of smells getting on your pouch's nerves?
I don't think you can do it on your phone. Just pc -Login -click on your username/profile -click on ticker and then the process starts from there (I believe) For weight loss -I actually think when you click on ticker then in the right hand corner it'll say something like "Total pounds lost in bariatricpal" Then input your before weight and your current weight I'll check my account on my pc when I get out of the tub ... hahaha For my weight loss; I'm 3.5 week post op I started incorporating solid foods this week I drink my Water I eat my Protein (my doc standards are 50-70gm a day so I've been hitting that daily with food) I take my Vitamins etc It's a science for sure but I think I'm getting better at it! At 2 weeks I was down exactly 20 lbs so your 15 lb weight loss is pretty darn awesome! Keep it up!! I didn't have a preop diet. (Well not one that the doc had me on but I did my own but didn't lose anything. Ugh!) If I told you misinformation about the ticker and how to change your weight then I apologize, but I will double check my pc in a little while for you Heather

Absolutely exactly what Notinks said.

Ever heard of smells getting on your pouch's nerves?
I'm with you on smells!!!!! Some smells (food) would make me chatter and salivate like a cat looking at a bird thru a window... pre surgery... Now those same smells make my tummy turn sometimes. It actually helps though so maybe it's a good thing!! Lol

Travel after surgery
I had surgery in Quebec Canada but live in British Columbia Canada; it was a 6-7 hour flight home. It was fine for the most part. Just get out of the car more often then you normally would to walk around a bit.

6 days out feel weak and drained
I'm 3.5 weeks and I'd say I have felt more fatigued, drained, exhausted and pooped in the last week and a half than the first 2 weeks. I have been told that it is totally normal and will go away soon (Anywhere between in the next week up to 8 weeks)

My journey has been long with lots of hairpin turns....
Holy fadoodle!! Yeah, I'd say you've jumped over some extra hurdles!!! Too bad you and doc didn't discuss getting a sleeve if that's what he felt was best when he was in the OR... but now that you're all healed up and no permanent liver damage - this is great news! Maybe look at it as: In the grand scheme of things... a few month delay is nothing (?) Now you know that you have to have your liver enzymes watched too. But with weight loss and getting healthy that should also keep your liver issues under control as well. When my doc came and talked to me post op he told me a had a bit of a fatty liver... I was mortified but he said that with weight loss it will fix that. Whew Anyways, good luck and three times a charm!!!!

What Are Some Things You Can't Wait for POST OP?
I can't wait to not feel so ashamed of myself. I can't wait for the low self esteem to ease up. I can't wait to be proud of myself for a job well done. I can't wait for people to look at me differently. I can't wait to be an inspiration to others. I can't wait for my very active friends to ask and include me for hikes and mountain biking etc again. I haven't been asked for a long time. I can't wait to wake up happy and looking forward to the day. I can't wait for good sleeps where I don't worry about everything. I can't wait to test my strength and push myself - exercise wise. Of course I can't wait for small clothes and everything else everyone else has said too. But most of all.... I can't wait to be me again.

Certain days of week
That's an interesting observation, for sure! I'm too new to tell something like that for me but I know pre surgery I was way more lax on weekends (when I was actually watching what I ate and drank)

What were your favorite first "solid" foods?
The food that Dub was posting looked so effing amazing!!! Wowsers, come to BC Canada and be my chef? Puhleeeeeeeaaase! I had my first real solid food yesterday actually.... TURKEY!!! It was our Thanksgiving day yesterday. (Turkey, sweet potato, cooked carrot, stuffing, dot of gravy, dot of cranberry jelly.) Everyone was laughing at my teeny tiny mini meal but damn it was good! It was so awesome!

A whole buncha #2's -- is this normal?
Hi all, I know I know - ewwww but I have to ask I am 3 weeks post-op (tomorrow) and for the last 6 days or so I have had bad bouts of ... um..well.... diarrhea. UGH so gross! I just need to know if this is normal. I am guessing it is because the basis of my diet since surgery has been mostly fluids with only very small meals of full fluids/soft foods. Am I correct in thinking that this is all part of it and when I start eating more solid foods that this horrible disgusting issue will reside? also, do you wanna be my friend? haha Heather

Stupid things people say when they find out you've had surgery....
"I bet your husband is so happy." He is, but he's happy that his wife is happier and healthier. ⬆⬆⬆⬆⬆ nailed it! My husband loves me. I can say this because he has been with me thick and thin. (Pun intended) We have been through a lot together. Thru sickness and health.. right? We have a healthy intimate life now with me being the size I am. When I was thin I don't remember having to pry him off me all the time and I don't think that's how it'll be when I'm small again. We aren't rabbits, that's for sure! Hahaha My best friend said that very same thing to me the other day 'I bet Shane is excited...!' Um no, he has actually said to me: "I cant wait for you to be happy and healthy and we can do stuff we used to love doing together again." (Ex: hiking mountains) Also my best friend actually had the nerve to say to me 3 days before surgery: "I don't want you to have surgery. I'm scared for you. How about just trying to eat less and exercise?" She's been my BFF for over 30 years.. she knows I've struggled with my weight my entire life. She knows I've tried every f**king diet/trick/pill etc in the book. She's seen me go up and down up and down -- I just want to get the eff down and stay there!!! Lol Anyways GREAT THREAD love reading all of these - I have pretty much heard them all at one point in my life whether it being in regard to surgery or some kind of useless diet I was on. (P.S. I am a previous lap bander as well so this is the second time around for all of the shitty ass comments that people say before thinking) Good luck to all! I love this site

Stomach pain
HAHAHAHA I was totally `that` patient. I am pretty darn sure my post op nurse was getting annoyed. The funny thing is, is that I too am a nurse but obviously haven`t had surgery experiences to know what all these new things with my body are. I had this pain and it`s normal. The majority of the bypass surgery happens on the left side. I was told to take some Tylenol and still make sure I get up and moving. I found that sitting too long brought on the stitch-like-cramp so I guess some advice would be not to sit too long. take care and good luck!

Help pls horrible pain 1wk out
I totally had this pain. It scared the crap out of me. I thought I pulled or ripped sutures or something. The nurse told me it was totally normal. It was always a sharp stitch-like-cramp that would shoot towards my belly button and my back (on left side only) but as soon as she said that it was because the majority of the surgery happened on my left side it totally made sense. She said nerves, muscles, tissue etc etc got cut too that and that it will take longer to heal on that side. She also pointed out that the reason I wasn`t feeling it week 1 was because I had some good pain killers haha it just dawned on me while reading this post that I haven`t had that pain for like 4 days now! whoop whoop!!! now, if only my number 2`s would smarten up (or harden up...!) and I would start feeling more energy and less lightheaded and dizzy... I can get going on this journey! good luck to you and let`s do this! Heather
