kahlua68 reacted to nybaby in Why did I do this to myself?
I know you have probably heard that it will get better a million times, you also probably have it heard it from people who have not had complications or even the surgery itself, but please, please let me tell it to u one more time, IT WILL GET BETTER I PROMISE. You see I had gastric bypass 8 months ago with nothing but complications from day one. Since having the surgery I have had to endure 5 hospital stays, 4 endoscopys, and 3 surgeries. And I can now say that for 3 months so far, I am feeling wonderful, whole, complete, happy, and healthy. I had so many regrets in the beginning, I cried every single day, I was mad at myself for putting myself and my family through the torture that I was going through, but if that is what I had to go through to be able to feel and look the way I do today as I'm sitting here typing this, then I will gladly go through it all over again!! So please believe that it will get better and easier, just have faith and believe that it will happen. I hope this helps, if you want to know all that I went through just email me and I will gladly tell you everything, I didn't want to post it here cause I thought it would be too long and people might not be interested in my story. Take care.

At 12 days post-op I experienced my first NSV today. As my size has yo-yo'ed over the years I have all sizes of clothes in my closet, with shirts from (men's) size 16 1/2 up to size 19. I was very pleased to find that I now fit comfortably into an 18 1/2, and almost a size 18. My NSV was packing up all of my size 19 shirts to give to charity.
Not quite yet ready to drop down a pant size but hoping that will come in another week or two. Anyway, the first NSV feels very good!

Get your stricture fixed. The idea of the surgery is to get healthy and continue to eat and be healthy, not to see how skinny you can get. You can't possibly feel well at this point when you can barely eat protien and when you do eat certain things you throw them up. That's no way to live. Go talk to someone about your fears about gaining, too. They can help you navigate through getting to a healthy point in your maintenence process.
It's time to take care of yourself.

I always have to laugh to myself when someone who is at goal or below basically is proclaiming the beginnings of or already have a full on eating disorder and posters are always like "Wow you look great! Keep up the great work!"
Enjoy the restriction?? She has a STRICTURE that keeps her from eating properly for God's sake!

Go get the second dilation! I had 2 about 1 week apart and I cannot even begin to express how much better I feel. You are potentially losing nutrients if you are vomiting. You will still have restriction. You just won't have food backing up in to your esophagus. You are at goal which is amazing! Get this physical complication behind you so you can focus on eating a healthy diet and not fear of what you can keep down. I understand you are tired of this! No wonder if you have been dealing with this so long! I'm just 3 months post-op and was tired of dealing with it so I can only imagine how hard it is to be so far out and dealing with it. So very sorry you have had so many issues but Girl, you made it to goal which is to be celebrated! You did that! You can absolutely make good choices once you are healthy. Best wishes! Hugs! And promise you will call Monday to schedule your next dilation. ????

Here's a different point of view. If this is truly a person of interest, then you should be honest and tell them you had weight loss surgery and the effects it has had on your diet. If they can't handle the fact that you have had weight loss surgery, then maybe you should move on and find someone who can be supportive of a decision that you made for the sake of your health.

From a man's point of view: Order an appetizer like Ahi tuna for dinner and just say you are on a diet. We think women are always on a diet of some type anyhow. Bonus round, he will appreciate that you didn't bust his wallet taking you out. The dinner date is just to spend time with you anyhow. No need to share this surgery or any other personal information with him that you aren't comfortable with.
