I had a lower BMI with multitude of comorbidities. HBP, GERD, the dreaded stress incontinence, and sleep apnea. I was told by people that I was "not that fat". Really? I couldn't go a flights of stairs without stopping.
Now six months out, I've lost over 60 pounds, do Zumba in a class that meets on the 4th floor of an old factory (I run up the stairs! Warm up) I've "trotted" a 5k and in two weeks am doing a Rugged Maniac. I found a picture from a year ago and I look at that woman and think, she was so big and unhappy. I'm sooooo happy!

Well, I was six months post this week and finally took some comparison photos.

    195 lbs - high weight
    188 lbs - surgery weight
    144 lbs - today's weight (well, 143.3 lbs, but I rounded up)

I am 51 pounds down and only NINE pounds from my goal weight!!!! And, I have lost 61.25 inches... crazy! Hips are 34" and wearing size 4!

Hey guys, I'm from Edmonton as well BMI 35.4. I'm having my surgery in September 11 with Dr Maytorena. They have a promotion of $3000 so I decided to get it done with him! Plus Ive been discussing with couple of his patients and they all doing great and look great.
My questions is for those who went thru this procedure, what did y'all have as your preop? I got the Premier Protein bars with 30g of Protein and they too sweet for me, and also got the same brand but in shake chocolate flavour it only has 1g sugar but the taste is juste awful. Any suggestions please?

As I see it, your co-worker, altho somewhat rude, simply stated fact.
    You DID have surgery.
That IS why you're losing weight.
Your co-worker is actually being more honest about it than you are.
I seem to be a little different from most people here.
    I told EVERYONE.
    I still do..
When people comment on my loss (100+ pounds since end of Feb), I simply say "Yep, I've lost heaps but have heaps to go."
    My co-workers know.
    My management know.
    My mates know.
The cleaner in my office knows.
I'm not ashamed of the fact that I've had surgery.
But then I'm not simply relying on the surgery to lose weight.
I'm also exercising before and after work.
So, I've turned this into a post about me...
    I'm such a man sometimes...
My opinion (and it's just my opinion) is as follows...
    You're being a little sensitive.
Yes, your co-worker is a toolbag for blurting that shit out...
But as someone before me said, once you tell one person, your stuff is no longer a secret.
You took a chance and told people...
It looks like that's come back to bite you.
And not in the good way...
    Take care,
    Kinda

A secret isn't a secret as soon as you tell ONE person. It was very rude of her to share something that wasn't hers to tell but now it is out there so make the best of it. Use it as an opportunity to educate anyone who asks about how it is only a tool in a larger process.
    Good luck!!

That was extremely RUDE and unprofessional.
Who is she to say ANYTHING about your personal life, regardless whether you told her or whether she was told by another co worker.
There is certain things that you should not bring up due to sensitivity issues. Weight, politics, religion, sexuality and money.
I am angry right now for you !!!

GNC has a natural (unflavoured) Protein Powder that I love called Pro Performance whey iso burst. It has 40 g of Protein in 2 scoops. I usually add PB2 to it (adds flavour and more protein) and mix with Water. I don't do Protein Bars because of the carbs.
$3000 is a sweet deal! Congrats on giving yourself this incredible gift!my preop diet was liquids only for 5 days because my bmi was 30. I did it for 7 days just to be safe tho. It was tough but so worth it!
I'd advise that you buy compression socks for the flight home as blood clots are a risk for flying so soon after surgery. Also get up and walk on the plane. I had a blood clot years ago so am overly paranoid about them but better safe than sorry!
I flew to mexico and had my surgery july 11 and have gone from obese to overweight to normal in the time since!
    Good luck with your surgery!
    I'm so excited for you!!

ready2besleeved reacted to joatsaint in If you haven't had surgery yet what are you most afraid of?
Your fears were mine...not the dying part, but the "not working for me." I too was afraid I would be the one person WLS would not work for and I'd have chased another "miracle cure" just find my hopes dashed against the rocks.
I wish I could transfer to you the "knowing what it's like on the other side", my experiences, and how WLS is unlike any pill or program or diet I was ever on.
The main 2 things I got from WLS was:
    1) The overwhelming head hunger I experienced every day was gone the day after surgery.
    2) I was physically unable to overeat, even if I wanted to, for months post-op. And that gave me the time to instill new eating and exercise habits that have stuck with me for almost 3 years. Willpower and resisting temptations never became an issue.
Hit me up in a private message if I can answer any questions.
Hope some of these videos help.

ready2besleeved reacted to funkecoldmedina in Really having a hard time. My food addict is truly getting the best of me.
I am so proud of you! It takes a lot for someone to say they have a food addiction. You are even taking steps to help yourself. That is extremely courageous. I think we just need to learn to take it one meal at a time. I am right there with you! I love food. I love eating it, I love thinking about it, I love talking about it, and I love cooking it. It is so hard to make healthy choices when eating is such a normal part of life. We have to eat to live, that's what makes food addiction so difficult. I know for me, I have to make a choice at every meal. Am I going to let food control me or am I strong enough to say that I make the decisions. I completely understand where you are coming from but we can do this! So many other people have taken control of their lives and we can too. I think seeing a therapist is such a huge part of this and can really help you become successful. Best of luck to you! I am rooting for you
