ambrosia916 got a reaction from Madtownsunshine17 in Big Secret
So I haven't told anyone except my husband and a co-worker that I am going to have surgery. It's so hard not to be able to tell my friends and family but I know what they will say..... "You don't need that, just eat less" "you just need to exercise more". "Just be happy the way you are" "You're not THAT big". I don't want to hear any of it. They will try to talk me out of it. I feel like I'm living a big lie. I will have to tell them at some point but I think I will do it right before the surgery. Anyone else have similar situations?

ambrosia916 got a reaction from rnytiffany in 1st weigh in ...IM NERVOUS
I'm on the other end, I can't lose any weight or I won't qualify. My BMI is 40.2 and I'm so stressed out about maintaining but not gaining. Every weigh in I hold my breath. LoL!

I talked to a rep at BS of Ca yesterday and she told me as of July 2015 they were no longer requiring 6 month of nutrition/dietitian, that the timeframe was at the doctors discretion. Here is the link.

Hey girls! I'm in Vacaville! I have bcbs but I needed a revision from lapband to RNY... They wouldn't pass it since bmi is 33... I'm at the airport now heading to Mexico for surgery tomorrow morning!! Good luck!! How old are you ladies? I'm 26 and can't wait to re-start this weight loss!

I'm only taking 1.5wks off, going back Monday. I didn't have any nausea or incisional pain. I'm sure I'll be tired but I'll deal with it.

I went back after 2 weeks and I should have taken 4 like doc told me too. I was extremely tired. Still am at 4 weeks out revision to RNY. You will not be up to going back to work at 1 week out. I could barely move around well
Enough and I wasn't allowed to drive for 2 weeks.

It depends on how you feel honestly I could have went back in 1 week but took 2 weeks so that I could attend my first post opt appointment I had no complications and I was feeling great . Good luck .

I took 4 weeks off then went back to work full time.. to a stressful job. I wish I had stayed off six due to the exhaustion I had. ????

I took 3 weeks and so glad i did. Even then the fatigue was still bad. This is major surgery. As major as having a kidney removed. Take the time to heal properly.

I took 5 weeks. Allowing myself time to heal and adjust to a new life. Take the time you need! You'll know when you're ready to go back!

I took a full six weeks, to heal and adjust. Luckily I had very little pain and no complications. If pushed I probably could have gone back after a week, based solely on how I felt. But the exhaustion really kicked my butt, so I was very glad I had the extra time.

I believe it's your choice who you tell! I chose to tell my co workers and friends and of course I got the usual rhetoric.. Your not big enough..try this new diet.. This is surgery and it's extreme to go to that length just to lose weight.. Whatever. They all know I will do what I want and this decision is one that I made with the very best education and research.
Who cares what people think. Go us for changing our lives!! I wish I would have done it sooner, and I am not at all ashamed of the path I have chosen to take me there!

I have not told many people either. Now, 6 weeks post op and about 30 pounds down, if anyone in my life notices I tell them I've been exercising and being very careful with food. Which I was doing anyway before surgery, only now I'm actually losing weight. XD You have no responsibility to tell anyone you don't want to tell. It's no one's business besides yours and your significant other, and even then, it's WAY more about you. You do what you feel is the right thing and everyone else can either support you or learn to deal with the fact that it's not their body and not their choice. :-)

I'm like you, I kept my circle very small of people I've told. I don't want to hear the same things; you're not that big, just eat less, yadda yadda yadda. Remember that you're doing this for you. It's not a lie, this is your life and you have the right to keep some things private. I plan on telling people if everything goes well and I am approved.
