Protip to the OP: This forum could be a big help to you in the coming months. So try not to piss off everybody in your first dozen posts here -- no matter how frustrated you're feeling at the moment. Nobody here actually owes you anything. It's the Internet, remember?

I agree. You should eat what you want when you want. It's not fair for your doctor, the surgeon you entrusted your life with, to expect you to follow a diet that will help you lose the most weight you can safely, efficiently while allowing your body to heal properly.
This was the easy way out, after all. One should be able to have surgery and *BOOM* lose the weight without the work.
Good luck to you! I am sure you are going to get exactly the right results!

You are just in the first of many stalls to come.
As a low BMI you will lose a lot at first and then slowly from then on out.
What I did was to record any lower weight on my fitness pal. That's it. Never an increase. If it went up oh well. Only the downs.
I know you don't want to hear that right now, but you have days, weeks and months to come of weighing in and it might just drive you crazy.
I started at 192. I reached goal at 9 months at 138 and today at 16 months I'm at 126. I'm maintaining here between 128 and 126 every morning depending on how my body is feeling.
I haven't done an exercise routine. Just what I get with my job and family. Not much. I have great restriction and I don't record my daily intake any longer.
Yes, I followed the rules 110% and worked my program to reach goal. I now know what I can and can't eat and drink without measuring every time.
Message me if you need some extra encouragement. You are not failing and your body didn't stop working!!!
Chin up. I had MANY days of what did I do, and I can't eat another, and will I ever feel normal again.

What terrific answers! Great, great group of people. I think I will take all of your advice at not weighing every morning despite the fact that that was my doctors recommendation. That's a crazy maker.

Experiencing my first stall now. Yay!
Embrace the stall for me means that I need to get used to this as a normal part of this journey. I can't panic. I know I need to stay off the scale (I'm trying!) and keep on keeping on. Knowing myself, I know that means I have to focus on things other than that damned number. So, some of the things I try to focus more on:
I am wearing a pair of jeans today that I haven't been able to wear in over a year because they were too small. And they're not tight. I purchased blouses that were 2X. I've been 3X for a very long time now. My diabetes medicines have been reduced significantly. I was much more comfortable in the theatre seat the other night and it's only going to get better! I kicked butt and took names at Water aerobics last night. Okay, so, that list was more for me than you - thanks for letting me ramble.

I second @@BLERDgirl I had already been on this site long enough to know what was more than likely going to happen so I stayed off the scale, I still rarely weigh. Once every other week is good enough. In doing that I've never had a stall at least not one I knew about. It helped to keep me sane. I would not do well trying to weigh all the time. I've also been studying the body for years. Your body is going through some major "trauma" and it needs time to rest and catch up so to speak. If your doing your part you will get results. Being aggravated and feeling defeated does nothing in the way of helping the process but making it a miserable experience. I've enjoyed my process because I just take it one day at a time and 10 months later bam 110 lbs gone!

To me it just me accept that stalls are as much a part of the process as the weight loss is and not to get frazzled by them. Accept it as part of the ebb and flow of what happens to everyone. Accept it, stay the course and keep on with your endeavors.
You were very wise not to skip that shake.
ETA: I weigh myself once a month or whenever I go to the doctor, whichever comes first. The scale makes me crazy and I lose focus weighing too frequently. Doing this I have missed any stalls that may have happened since every time I go to the doctor's I have shown a loss. That's much better on the ego.

So after dropping 31 pounds rather quickly, I hit the dreaded 3 week stall. I was stuck for 13 days before the scale dipped again. I know that stalls are a normal part of the process, but they mess with your head, don't they? I found myself saying that perhaps I should not have my 160 calorie Protein Shake, which I immediately knew was ridiculous thinking considering since my calorie intake is around 500 a day and of course I did NOT skip my shake but stuck with the program. My question is, I hear a lot of very smart people on this site say "Embrace the stall". If you are one of those people, would you kindly please explain to me what that means to you? I think I need a different prospective than the one that I have. All sage wisdom is welcome, including sarcasm.

I finally got past the stall which I know are part of the norm, but again.....I have all the information and education about stalls, I understand the rationalization, but still...stalls mess with your mind. The support here is WONDERFUL.

Stalls suck! Especially your first "Three Week (or Two) stall". You lose a shit load of weight and then BOOM. Your body slams on the brakes! It's just making adjustments after the large amount of weight lost. With this stall, you just do more of the same and ride it out. Happens to everyone.
You will probably have another at some point. Then another. And the scale will do the 1-2 pound "bounce" as described above. Our bodies are these wacky, wonderful, complex things that like to fluctuate weight wise. You'll get used to seeing it. You'll also be able to read whether it's a true stall or just wacky fluctuations. Subsequent stalls will have to be dealt with by doing adjustments with diet or excersise. You'll find this process isn't as simple as "calories in, calories out". We are complicated creatures!

I'm two weeks out and the scale hasn't moved for 3 days. That being said, I've lost an astounding 29 pounds in two weeks! I'm 100% compliant and I'm walking/running every night so I know it's just a matter of time before my body readjusts and starts losing again...but YES, stalls mess with your mind, especially this early in. Let's hang in there! We can do this!
