You are in fight or flight mode. When on a airplane going down you are taught to help yourself first so that you are able to help others later! Take care of yourself first you've come this far why turn back. Rather ask your self why he's not doing the cooking & giving you the support that you deserve. Do this for you! Don't allow someone else's insecurities jeopardize your goals. Possibly a loving heart to heart convo is needed here. Set some boundaries. People get away with what we allow. Don't allow him to sabotage something that could change your life for the better. Hope this helps. Everything handled in love has a positive outcome.

    tbeek,
Why would you be doomed? You’re only doomed if you think you are and, more importantly, if you act like you are! Everyone messes up. Just think about how bad it feels, and also think about what led you to take those extra bites. Maybe you thought you wouldn’t feel guilty, maybe you weren’t thinking. Next time, you’ll know – you’ll feel bad if you “nibble,” and it’s just not worth it.
And by the way, 2.5 ounces of bad stuff isn’t that bad! If it gets you to learn your lesson, it’s an awfully cheap lesson!

    Hi
I am 4 wks post op.
    I almost cannot have Proteins.< /p>
chicken even pureed gets stuck in my stomach.
I have lactose intolerance since my surgery.
    I dont like fish.
So i am on egg based Protein Shakes.< /p>
I found that having some small sips of tea or warm Water helps get the food down.
    Is it dangerous?
Why are we not supposed to eat and drink at the same time?
    Thx

Try sugar free-Popsicles, Water enhancers (like crystal light, Mio drops, etc.), Decaf tea, Herb infusions (like mint "tea"), clear broths/soup, etc.
Try room temperature, try warm, try ice cold.
Just keep trying and working at it.
Plain Water was the hardest thing for me to drink I initially. It took a while for me to be able to drink it in significant amounts.

Hey Everyone! Happy New Year! I just toasted in the new year with some Powerade Zero, haha. I've been sipping and sipping and walking and walking. Gas pains are all gone, but the fact that every single time I take a sip and it sits right above my stomach before it 'flushes' into it is bothering me like crazy. No sharp pains, just dull soreness. I'm dying to take a solid sip of Water without having to sip.

So as of today I am almost 3 months out from VSG and I have lost 55lbs.
Today is Christmas and things are very different this year, for the first time in my life I didn't overeat into misery at Christmas dinner, I have stayed well within my nutritional goals for the day, and (here's a big one for me) I came home and worked out when we got back from the family gathering I have never ever done that before. For me today was a few big NSVs that made the holiday all that much more enjoyable! ????
On the left was at my all time highest weigh, middle was at surgery, and right was a few weeks ago.

Feeling better today. Have gotten NO Protein down, but am sipping Water and sugar free apple juice which tastes amazing. Haven't needed much pain medication today, but the incisions burn a bit. Feeling ok.

It seems very common to all of us to have regrets at first; this will pass. I am going on six weeks since having it and I promise, it gets better, although right now it does not feel like it. I do have to tell you to brace yourself for the emotional roller coaster that it's coming your way; this is also normal and it will subside. Much luck on your journey, and hoping for a speedy recovery.

The can you stretch the sleeve question has been done to death. Basically , yes and no. Over time the sleeve will be larger than it is at the outset of post op. that's the truth and you also will learn to eat more and eat slower etc. so your overall food intake can be larger, BUT it will never be normal or anywhere close to it., and the fundus ( the stretchy part of the stomach) is removed in sleeve surgery, so technically the answer is NO you cannot stretch it past a certain point. That being said, GET OFF THE DIET SODAS, there are a few people here who drink diet soda and they do so on maintenance. Hit your goal first then figure out what works for you. until then Water , flavor it with squeezy flavors, or sugar-free powders or whatever but get off the diet soda. carbonation is not good for you period. Going back to the habits that got you to this point, is horrible for you. Dont give in. You can do this, but you have to make the effort. or else you will fail amd failing at this means you get to be fat AND can't eat much, Lets not go down that slope.

Firstly, stop with the diet sodas and just stick with a Water or no calorie drinks. Then get back to basics like in the beginning, which means:
Protein first (lean beef, chicken, pork or seafood)
If you have room, then veggies
Limit processed food and sugar, including the "white stuff" like bread, Pasta, rice and potatoes
Lots of no calorie NON CARBONATED fluids, preferably Water mostly
You haven't stretched your sleeve. It's just the natural progression of things to be able to eat a little more as the months go by, not the sodas. But the sodas are obviously causing and issue for you, so they need to go. Protien and water will help keep your sleeve full so you won't have room for sodas
Now get back to your program and get the rest of your weight off! You're doing great!

I didn't have a drain but I did have this ball/device that administered a numbing agent. It was wired into my chest, just under my sternum and hung around my neck. I only wore it for a couple of days until it was empty.
My incisions across my abdomen were glued, so unless I lifted up my shirt and showed someone they were not visible.
You may have some bruising where the IV was administered.
Also, since you are on blood thinners you may bruise easily.
One thing you may need to keep in mind as a student is that in the first weeks/month or so after surgery you may be mentally fuzzy. I was in a bit of a fog for a month which impacted my short term memory. This may be due to dehydration/lack of nutrition, anesthesia, and/or general stress due to the surgery and healing.
Also, keep in mind lifting restrictions. You won't be able to lift a heavy book bag for a while.
The best way to heal quickly is to be gentle with yourself and follow your program.
Focus on getting in all of your Protein and fluids. Take your Vitamins and supplements as instructed. Exercise (walking is great until you are cleared for more strenuous exercise).
If you need any accommodations after surgery, talk with your Dean of Students office. And, if you can't find healthy choices through food service, definitely talk to the manager of your food services.
Best of luck with your surgery and keep us posted on how you are doing.

My surgery was on Monday, also. I've been off iv since the 29th. According to the nurses I had, this burping to keep going is incredibly... normal. Is Jello easier for you to get down than just liquids? If I eat jello, I find that the burp doesn't happen.

I am 3 days out and I have no pain, I am drinking with no issues, have not thrown up, I was expecting something different.
Since my BMI was only 30 I had the doctor make the stomach a little bigger, the size of an banana and a half I wonder if that has anything to do with it.

The reason we progress from Clear Liquids to full liquids to pureed to soft foods isn't really about weight loss, though that is a nice result. It's really about allowing your stomach to heal. It has just been cut in half and stapled back together. Eating solid foods to early can cause a leak or staple line rupture, which can be a very serious and possibly even fatal complication.

Please don't risk damaging your staple/suture line. Follow the postop diet so you don't hurt yourself. The last thing you want is a leak.

I was sleeved July, 2014 and I had regrets for the first month. I was dehydrated and had terrible pain. I had to sleep sitting up for a month, then everything changed. As soon as I could sleep laying down I was feeling much better about the surgery. This surgery was the best thing I have ever done. I have been below goal since April, 2015. I have so much energy and I love buying new clothes.
