butterfly** got a reaction from NewRose2016 in Post op day two, help
I was sleeved on the 20th as well. This is day 3 for me. I was miserable to and instantly thought what did I do to myself. I do feel better today but I am no where near meeting my liquid and Protein goals. Gas spasms in stomach are lessening and are not as strong as they were. I can't use my cpap cause it causes me to have more gas. Still hoping each day I feel stronger. I am more awake today. I to thought I would be one to handle this easily but boy was I wrong!!

As a rule (pre-surgery) I don't like refried Beans but they're packed with Protein and I add some shredded cheese and light sour cream and I can eat them. It's a break from cottage cheese and yogurt. I whip the cottage cheese with some sugar free blackberry jam and it tastes better. I also do ricotta instead of cottage cheese sometimes. I am at almost 6 weeks and yesterday was the first day I could hold down scrambled eggs. I had turkey sausage with it and ate that first and I think since is was higher in fat it smoothed the way down for the eggs. I still can't eat chicken, tuna comes right up. Crab with a little mayo stays down and so does lobster. The softer the food the better. I struggle to get to 60 grams of Protein daily but found a 30g unflavored protein powder that I add to the refried bean or to stewed lentils today that got me up to the right amount. The brand is GENEPRO Medical Grade Protein which I purchased on Amazon.< /p>

BTW, I'm glad to hear that at least some of the folks who are smoking marijuana post-op aren't seeing their weight loss efforts hampered by their marijuana use.
For those who are offended by responsible marijuana smokers, get ready to be offended a lot more. I predict that recreational use of marijuana will soon be legalized nationally -- and sooner than you expect.

I started with the nectar sample pack. Now I buy the 2 lb container of the nectar Cappuccino and chocolate truffle. I really like them and have no desire to try other brands.

butterfly** reacted to Awjones28 in Where's the "support"?
I've noticed a annoying little trend going on where someone asks for advice, or posts that they're down in the dumps for some reason or another- and they instantly get RIPPED! I thought we were all here for the same reason-to get support. We all have/had a common ground being that we are/were overweight and decided to do something about it. That decision does not mean that all our struggles go away miraculously. The people that struggle with food will still struggle with food. People that struggle with exercise will still struggle with exercise, and so forth. There really is no need to get all "you're going to DIE!" or "you're going to fail!" just because someone states they're hungry or want something not so healthy. I get that some people need tough love, but who says you have to be the one to give it to them? Especially if you're going to be a total b@$ch with it. I'm just saying there is a way to do and say everything. Remember your own journey. There was once a time where you were not so healthy or had it all together too. Vent over.

I have said this before and I will say it again here
I am not out shouting to the world that I had this surgery. However, I have no shame in telling anyone if they ask.
I grew up and have a special needs daughter and fight everyday to erase the stigma around mental illness. That means being open and honest with people and NOT hiding the truth from them. I feel the same about this surgery.
There is a stigma that this is "the easy way out" or "cheating the system" or whatever. So everyone who who fails to mention surgery and will only tell people, "Oh it's just diet and exercise" are only feeding into the stigmas that so many of us are trying to fight and educate people on. People hear that and think, "well so and so lost 100lbs by just changing her diet and exercise, I don't see why all obese people can't do it" etc.
    That's my .02.

What a bunch of wet noodles! Marijuana is technically a drug, yes...but it's a hell of a lot safer than alcohol. Have you ever seen an angry pot head? The worst that can happy with a little pot is you may hug someone a bit longer than socially acceptable, laugh a little louder at a joke or, god forbid, get a great nights sleep! OH, THE HUMANITY!
Personally, I use marijuana as a sleep aid. I've struggled with insomnia for most of my life. Melatonin no longer works for me. I've been on Ambien, Lunesta and (lately) Trazadone. I'd much rather smoke a little organic pot (my uncle grows and uses all organic fertilizers and pesticides) and sleep well than pump myself full of big pharma chemicals.
@@jadama22, I'm interested to hear what you've decided and how it impacted you.

I think this is a good question. Weed gives me the munchies bad. Last time I smoked out though I ate celery with a little bit of hummus and tried to chug Water. I don't think I will get high after surgery though because the temptation to overeat would be too much.

Please be kind to each other on this site - aren't all of us trying to stay positive about perhaps the hardest things we have ever done? I know I am. I come to this site for inspiration and answers - not to read others being negative about others' choices. Be respectful please. You don't have to agree with what others do, but no need to hate. This is hard enough.

I used MMJ for medical reasons. There are so many different strains out there and plenty that do not cause munchies. If you go with a strain with more CBD and not as much THC then it is more for pain managment, body buzz opposed to heady high and munchies. If it is something that you need or even chose to use; just research strains.
I don't think anyone anywhere including here can/should judge anyone else for the way they choose to live an everyday life occurance. Everyone here is here for the same reason, to lose weight and have support. Not to be judged on other things we do. All of us have our own opinions, if you don't think it is a good idea; simple state that. Don't go on to put each other down. Especially someone who had to go through surgery to lose weight; how can you judge others for what they need to do to get by. Too each his own!
I say if you can handle and get your hands on the right strain for you; go for it. If it doesn't work and you start eating because of it; yeah might want to let it go.
    Good luck to everyone!

    STATUS UPDATE:
It has been almost 4 months since surgery and I have been using marijuana since my for about 2 months now and I have to say it has been great. I have lost 54 lbs and I'm feeling great and going. I exercise 3 to 4 times a week and I'm very active. My life has truly changed for the better and guess what - having marijuana did not hinder anything for me. I stick to having healthy Snacks around like apples, bananas, baby carrots if I get the munchies a bit and it works for me.
Just thought to share as I started this thread and I have not been on here for a while.
    Definitely a positive experience!

Hey there!! Don't get discouraged!! Everyone's body is different. I lost 30 lbs my first month out, then lost anywhere from 9-15 lbs every month after that. I'm a little over 10 months out now. I focus on Protein first and eat less than 20 carbs per day (on most days!). I keep my calories really low (700 a day max) because my NUT and doctor specifically tell me to do so. I drink 80-100 oz of Water a day. I walked 3 times a week up until about 3 months ago when I started lifting weights and doing T25 in addition to running. I don't know if my weight loss has been fast, slow, normal - I've just stuck to it and tried to eat in a way that is sustainable for me and my next 60 years of life! Haha. My best advice to you? Get off these boards, or anything else that makes you compare yourself, or feel like you're losing too "slowly," or whatever. I quit social media and message boards a few months in unless I had a specific question or concern, and I only came back once every few months to update. Your journey is yours and no one else's - focus on it and you will be rewarded!
PS I got unbelievably lucky and didn't lose any hair. I took Biotin every day and used Biotin shampoo! No clue if that is what made the difference, but worth a shot!

Just had my second back surgery Oct 2014 (fusion, for disk issues). I'm only doing the pre-surgery diet and have lost 12lbs and just from that have noticed my back pain is less and less, and I work at a desk 8 hours a day. It's definitely going to help.
