  1. Be careful where you have surgery. Please go to a reputable surgeon in Mexico...just heard a horror story about a place that butchers and botches surgeries....
  2. I have the same issues with my lapband.i started taking CALM by Natural Vtality. It keeps acidic levels and constipation at bay.It also prevent gas and inflammation.
  3. Up until last week I was all set in pursuing a revision to a sleeve. Its new I saw a couple of celebrities Graham Elliot,Lisa Lampanelli and Rosie O Donnell to note. All are first time procedures for them. Ok I felt the same way back in 2004 when I saw Sharon Osbourne and a few other stars opt for the "newest"surgery in WLS at the time the lapband.I was approved for both but decided that the less invasive.Lapband was the way to go.Had the best surgeon who performed bypasses on Al Roker,Star Jones etc...,she and Dr.Roslyn are pioneers of WLS in NY.She offered me the Up until last week I was all set in pursuing a revision to a sleeve. Its new I saw a couple of celebrities Graham Elliot,Lisa Lampanelli and Rosie O Donnell to note. All are first time procedures for them.Back in 2004 I had the option between bypass and the lapband.I immediately opted for the lapband ....not taking into account the fills/u fills and slippage. The procedure was new and long term data was not available such as RNY. Big mistake!!!!I lost about 40 pounds initially and the fills and u fills were not wonderful and I never achieved the right fill.I started to not be able to handle several types of foods so I developed involuntary bulimia. One day I could eat a salad the next day I would violently throw up.Going to restaurants were a nightmare...a secret nightmare ...I would have dinner and have to go to the ladies room because I would need to throw up.Years of acid reflux and just fighting with my weight was a losing battle.....I developed PCOS,insulin resistance...pre diabetic...gall bladder attacks, had it removed, high cholesterol returned, developed breast cancer in 2012 And the chemo had steroids and oh boy ...gained all the weight back.Indigestion and chronic acid reflux plus port pain and stomach aches and bloating.I am miserable. My friend who is extremely obese just had sleev surgery as well as her daughter. It is there first WLS.it seems to be working for them. She has lost a good amount of weight but has a long way to go.She feels great so I was all in...I spoke to her last week and she told me that one day she wasn't able to eat one of her small scheduled meals because she was very busy at work....she got home famished and had egg salad she ate a bit to quickly and felt like throwing up but said that slime and bile came up.AHHHHHH....by the way she doesn't know I have the band....she experienced what I go through almost every day. My stomach is lap band abused I have all kind of gastro tests because my esophagus and stomach is a mess...The reflux rules out the sleeve for me.I would hate to make that mistake. It is not reversible, long term data is not available and on a lot of other sites I am seeing People who have had the sleeve complain of acid reflux....worse with revisions,Ulcerative sleeves, leakage which can cause infections and inadequate weight loss. Some are seeking yet another revision to RNY.I am not going to put myself through this with my lapband abused stomach.Cutting out 85% of my stomach which can't be reversed is not appealing to me.I will opt for the Good Standard once and for all the bypass....the data is there and it is the Gold Standard. No more fad procedures for me.
  4. #41 One word that says it all.....HIPPA. My business is my business, not everyone else's. I'm a very private person with everything. But, to each their own. Everybody is different. Absolutely!!!!
  5. I have had the band since 2004... Miserable and fat again...want a revision to bypass. This band is awful.
  6. Nuclear scan? what is that test? What is a EGD?these sound like important tests. What are they used for?
  7. Whenever you feel a flare up see your dr.....document everything.
  8. Veronica...there is no failure....you are on your way.The band is gone!i definitely think the RNY is the best option for me as well.
  9. I had the CT scan...just showed...mild hiatal hernia,an upper GI series....with barium swallow. The radiologist was making notations of the reflux while he was conducting the test. This coming week I meet with surgeon to infill and view the band...I haven't had an adjustment in 5 years. In 2 weeks an endoscopy....you gotta get a gastroenterologist and he will order that these tests be performed....this week I will show up at my doctors office...miserable.The Omezarapole is having little effect.... Any comorbities?
  10. I definitely want to band to RNY.....it's the tool that I need to get it right
  11. Yes'!i can't follow a diet....my band dictates when and what it feels like having....tonight I have awaken at 2am because of band tightening /spasms and indigestion. The Omezarapole is having no effect.
  12. I have decided to go with a bypass instead of a sleeve....just really gotta get my act together to get insurance to work this out for me.
  13. And....I will see my doctor on a spit of the dime and she knows that this must happen...very supportive.
  14. Yes that what the clause in my insurance states"technical " failure! What does that mean?My band from what I can tell has not eroded. The CT scan indicated a mild hiatal hernia. What procedure detects erosion? Had an upper GI with barium....severe reflux.scheduled for an endoscopy and the surgeon is going in to u fill the band next week. My comorbities: post metatastic breast cancer with a high risk of reoccurrence because of weight gain...got a letter from my oncologist,PCOS,insulin resistance, pre diabetes, high cholesterol, and disc degeneration /osteo artrithis. at risk for heart disease stated as a result of the ct scan. Got a note from my gynecologist stating the PCOS and insulin resistance/pre diabetes.
  15. I am beyond miserable! The band was the worst thing I ever did to myself!
  16. Do they work with most insurance plans including Medicare and Medicaid?
  17. I am miserable with this band....I want a revision to bypass.I have Horizon NJ Health. What is the process for approval..I have gained all the weight back, acid reflux, hiatal hernia,PCOS,post breast cancer, pre diabetes, high cholesterol...lithe list continues....I have Horizon NJ Health mercy. Sorry I meant band to RNY!!!!!
  18. I am on this!!!I have no money for out of pocket.
  19. Every time I get a flare up I am running to the doctor....oh yeah...they will see that getting a revision is cheaper for them in the long run.
  20. Verona ...girl you are on your way!!!!Thanks for sharing truthful information regarding" life after the band"!!!! I know the bypass is rather right choice....I can't go for the "new flavor of the month" procedures....I did that with the band.It was the hot WLS procedure back in 2004.No way.
  21. The damage that band varies....not all doctors want to risk doing it all one time. Also insurance have specifics for coverage. Band has to come out period!!!!
  22. There is a great magnesium supplement called"CALM"
  23. Are you getting a revision or is it your first procedure?
  24. Hi...after a lot of research ,thought and pain I have changed my mind.I am not seeking a revision to the sleeve but in fact a RNY.My lapband has caused my stomach and esophagus so much pain...the reflux is severe.I can't cut away 85% of a very abused stomach. The Gold standard for me... My first time sleeve friend is doing very well with her sleeve.
