Pejela got a reaction from bigmoe99 in Marijuana Vaporization / Edibles Post-Op? ATTN: WEED SMOKERS
I don't really know much about Bariatrics and pot but I think when they say wait 3 months I think they are meaning the smoke or any smoke for that matter, I mean come on people with ulcerative colitis, cancer etc eat the edibles to help them, the only thing is for edibles, you are on liquids and then mush for the first 3-4 weeks depending on your dr, so edibles should be broth, or creamed Soups, no sugars etc. if I were you I'd tweak the directions of food for the edibles to be right so you don't cause any leaks with solids etc. maybe some in tea. Even the Vape may cause some issues so for while your stomach is healing from being cut by 80% and that removed and while your staples and stitch is healing to stay clean and then talk to your dr tell the dr so they can help you incorporate it back into your regiment. But that's my opinion always check with your doctor.

Sorry, I should have provided proof: Go to Realself, search 'Dr.Ortiz Death'. Within that search you will read comments regarding a woman who went with a friend to get Bariatric surgery from Dr. Elias Ortiz. Her friend died. I continued my research and have been communicating with Sonya at "Lighter Me". She confirmed the death but refused to speak about it. I am more than happy to forward you my email. This email exchange was yesterday. Aziza

don't listen to them about your decision I too had a lower BMI from 36-38 but I felt like I was dying and or going to have a stroke or heart attack, my whole body hurt everyday And my feet too. Today 3 weeks out from sleeve surgery I have lost 14 lbs 24 total and have not felt this alive in a few years. Good job on using preventative measures for your health and well being. Congrats

My close friend had it done through Kaiser and it was six months of appointments with drs, therapist evaluation, nutritionist with diet and exercise plan and she said at first she was so upset because she wanted the surgery right away but then she realized it was the best tool they gave her to help her through surgery and then post op, she is doing amazing and she highly recommends the program she says really it's essential as annoying as it is in the beginning, the support groups is what she really enjoyed and making new friends that relate, she is a pound away from her goal weight in 8 months! So walk through it with kaiser I wish I had kaiser. She's in San Diego.

I am a low BMI gastric sleeve patient. My BMI was a little over 35 when I got sleeved. I was approved by my insurance because I have kidney disease and getting HBP or diabetes would be detrimental to my health. I'm getting very frustrated with people not knowing my history and saying I didn't need the surgery. Although a 35 was the highest my BMI has ever been, it's more about the constant struggle with loosing weight and trying to stay healthy.

What you say is so true! Even my surgeon put down my primary reason for wanting the surgery was to be thinner and look better, like it was some vanity thing. Yes, sure it will be nice to look better but definitely the top of my list is health, health, health all the way. I did explain this to him in no uncertain terms!

It always gets under my skin just a it to hear WLS elective. For many (most?), it's saving our lives as surely as surgery for cancer or some other life threatening illness. I didn't just wake up one day and think "gee, surgery sounds like the easy way to do this. " I've struggled with my weight and its ramifications for years. I was dying a slow and sure death. After reading about wls, I know it's going to take big sacrifices, major life changes, possible complications.
Really, elective? No wonder some people look down on WlS or equate it with the current societal drive to be beautiful through surgery, injections and so forth.
In my opinion, we need to get the medical community to stop calling it elective. We all know we've had to demonstrate unhealthy bmi, lack of success with diets after multiple sincere attempts and medical comorbidities. This isn't a luxury surgery; it's not an attempt to fit in size 2 clothes. It is a desperate, deliberate and informed decision to excise the metaphorical cancer that is killing each of us.

    Hi,
I M Pre op, I have a really bad back (double discectomy/laminectomy) and in order to prep for the gastric bypass surgery. I have to stop all NSAIDS, these are important to me as they prevent pain to a certain degree. I have a friend who controls pain with medical marijuana. I am in the process of getting my license for medical marijuana. I plan on making tea with it as this is probably a better way to enjoy the pain control benefits of Cannabis. If I cannot use NSAIDS anymore, I have to come up with alternatives to control pain. vaporizer if not an option, tea will be.
    Cheers,

I had my surgery on August 24th and I have had moments where I feel like myself and then moments like yourself totally exhausted. I know 3 people who have had this surgery and they all went through the same thing but are extremely happy they did it. Do what you can when you feel up to it, and rest when needed, stay positive.

You've had major surgery, and the body uses a lot of energy to repair itself. It's natural and expected to feel tired.
I had very low energy levels through about week 5 or 6. Yesterday I ran 2 miles. You'll get there.

You won't feel yourself for at least a month. It's totally ok. You need to tell your friend, thank you for loving me, but you need to chill. Don't push yourself. Do what you can. It will get better every day. ❤️

Being exhausted for a few to several weeks is completely normal after surgery. I don't know if hearing that will make you feel better, but I hope it does, and you can know that you will gradually get your strength and energy back.
Your friend sounds like a pill. Tell her your doctor ordered you to rest as much as needed. If she can't accept that, and you can afford it, I certainly endorse the idea of a hotel! Good luck.

I felt this exact same feeling. They gave me some plastic thing with a ball inside to use to stenghten my breath. I did it a few times a day. Also that chest pain might also be gas. To be on the safe side, you really should talk with your doctor, it's always the best choice. Tell your doctor how you feel.
It was an inhaler excersize breathing thing I used. I'm sorry I don't know the name of it.

Pretty much! I ate things like golden mushroom soup, but couldnt have the chunks of mushroom. So throw it in the blender (or ninja) and puree the heck out of it! I also addes spices to my Soups to make them more savory. So, in my mushroom soup I added curry powder, cumin and paprika. In my cream of chicken (blend up those chicken pieces!) I added adobo, garlic & onion powder. In my Tomato I added Italian seasoning, garlic and basil. They tasted sooooo much better!

As some of you may remember from my ordeal, when my wife was getting discharged from her WLS they told her they found some cancer cells in the routine liver biopsy they do during WLS surgery. She went for scans and tests in December and January and they couldn't find any primary. So basically she has to get scans every 6 months just in case. So she had her 6 month scan in June and cancer specialist said they didn't find anything and he thought original pathologist misread biopsy after her surgery and he'll do one more scan the end of this year and no more if all still looks good. I asked specialist if he could send original biopsy out for second opinion so maybe they could definitively say they weren't cancer cells and all is good. We'll 2nd pathologist said they were cancer cells. So cancer specialist sent us to better specialist. Had appt today and this specialist found the tumor on the scan from January that our original cancer specialist ordered and missed. So angry right now as we have lost 8 months. She has tumor in small bowel and the lymph nodes there and of course there was evidence of cancer cells in her liver in December. She goes in for a focused scan next week and then they will tell us about the surgery and treatment she will need. Your prayers helped me with my rough time so figured can't hurt to have some more for my wife. They say the WLS can bring folks together or tear them apart, but we have grown much closer after surgery and my ordeal and it pains me she has to go thru this now. Thanks all
