I"m 5 days post-op and I feel you. There are milestones and some of them are tough to get through. The decision to do this was tough. Surgery day was really tough. I was alone, haven't told many people and my husband needed to be home with the kids, and I had a rough time in the recovery room. Rotten 24 hours in the rearview mirror and, like you, I'm on to the next milestone.
2 days ago I thought it would be impossible to meet my Fluid and Protein requirements. The past 2 days have been a relative breeze. AND I feel pretty normal. I'm getting around fine, done with pain meds, finding myself taking probably gulps of Water that are too big and not suffering. I'm sure these are just a couple lucky days but I'll take them. If I have another week of managing my intake without all kinds of issues I'm grateful. Moving on to the next stage of the diet has me anxious. The upcoming holiday season with loads of social events has me anxious. Inevitable plateaus will bum me out. But we will be fine!
I get where you're at. I also feel like the worst is behind me. The worse being a life of chronic pain, weight related health issues, etc. We've got lots to manage ahead but today let's say "Hooray!" We did it! We really did it! It seems sort of surreal but we did it and I'd rather deal with every challenge ahead than the version of me I'm leaving behind.

I was really nervous about the surgery itself because before this I had never had surgery. I definitely understand that this is going to be a day to day challenge.

Not to be discouraging, but you might be setting yourself up for some disappointment if you think the "worst part" is over. For most of us, the first few days and weeks are really really rough. Hang in there. Focus on getting your Water in and walking. Stick to the plan. And just take it one day at a time. Definitely come back here to the forums whenever you are feeling hopeless or discouraged.
If there is one virtue that will serve you best through this while journey, it's patience. You'll need to be patient as you are moving through the food stages. You'll need to be patient as you are allowing your body to heal. You'll need to be patient when all you can wonder about is whether you will ever feel "normal" again. You will need to be VERY patient with the scale. Everything does get better and easier with time. You just have to be patient and trust in the plan.

Joymarie333 reacted to VSGAnn2014 in Why do I need a chest X-ray and blood work a week before surgery?
Well, you're about to have major surgery. They want to find out if you have any cardiac issues or other conditions that indicate WLS surgery would be dangerous at this time or whether they should take specific precautions during surgery to avoid complications.
These tests also offer your surgeon and others on the surgical team a baseline of your body's condition before surgery. If something happens during or after surgery, they can more swiftly determine what has gone wrong and how to fix it.
    This is very standard procedure.
I didn't pay for anything "up front." It was all covered by my insurance.

Most insurance companies work with Qwest diagnostics. You shouldn't have to pay anything up front. I had my chest xray done at the hospital my insurance is capacitated to for things like xrays and scans and I had my bloodwork done at the hospital I was having surgery at.

Those tests are standard for the most part. The blood work is to make sure you are not anemic, and to make sure your body chemistry, and your blood clotting factors are where they should be to give you the best possible outcome for your procedure. As was already stated the chest x-ray is to give them a look before they start because we are all different on the inside just as we are on the outside.
    Best of luck to you!

I just got my sleeve on October 26 so it's not even been two weeks. I'm down about 10 pounds but the main thing I notice is since I'm not eating very much I'm not so groggy or in a food coma ALL THE TIME like I used to be. I can't believe how clear my head is and how much energy I have not having a belly full of junk food and carbs. I'm in such a good mood, well probably because I'm walking every day which I haven't done in years and those endorphins are making me smile at everyone and people who have no idea say, "Well, you look good." I don't look any different at all yet haha but I'm smiling and happy. That's probably a huge difference.
I'm optimistic and super excited about what life will bring for the first time in a long time.

Other than the really bad acid reflux which I am going to see the doctor about in my appointment in a few days, I feel pretty good.
My resting heart rate is now 70. It used to be around 80-85.
I used to have the band and had a revision to gastric sleeve. Whenever I used to take deep breaths, I could feel the band and it felt like a stricture. Not having it in my body feels great just because I was always aware that it was there and it was always bothering me.
I huff and puff less when climbing the stairs.

You fool! A male only picture thread?! This forum can't repel testosterone of that magnitude! All the women are going to start creeping this thread looking for their daily dose of beefcake.
I actually do like the idea of a Men's Picture thread. On the others it tends to turn into "Here is my new outfit and latest duckface pic" I am 2lbs away from my first goal. I will post my first picture here for that occasion!

You can't have your cake and eat it too, literally and figuratively.
You either want and are committed to one person or you don't.
It is okay if you don't and it is okay if you want multiple partners.
However, it is not okay to hurt others or to break the hearts of those that care.
At some point or another, you'll be on the other end of the cheater/cheatee relationship; it is just a matter of time.
    You reap what you sow.

3 years 5 days ago I have gastric bypass surgery. 2 years 8 months ago I began cheating on my husband. He still to this day doesn't know that I have been out getting chased by men and being a very bad wife. We have been separated for a little over a year now. I didn't want to have sex with him after the surgery. Something changed in me that made me resent him and lost all attraction for him. He is a really good looking man and has all of the right anatomy. He loved me as a large woman and I became small very fast and he didn't change with me. I found that men were becoming more and more attentive and I was enjoying all of it. Once I broke the ice and cheated the first time it was all over for me. I wanted more and more and it was easy. I am in a relationship with another man and still cannot stay with one person. I am not sure how to stop this cycle and stop wanting more then one person at a time. I don't want to hurt anyone, but I feel no regret and I am really good at keeping it a secret. Any suggestions on what I should do? Do I keep on this path of being unfaithful or do I have to figure out a way to be committed to one person? It's very hard for me as I really enjoy having more "options"

My first month post-op I lost 10.4 pounds.
And I was thrilled! I hadn't lost that much weight in a month in decades!
By 8.5 months post-op, I had lost all my excess weight. I've since slowly lost another 10 pounds for a total of 95 pounds lost. I'm maintaining stably now at 140 pounds.
(Can you tell from all the smiley-faces how happy I am with my WLS experience?)
You'll be fine -- no matter how fast or slowly you lose. The point is that you will lose. And if you do what you're supposed to do you will lose all your excess weight. And then you will keep it off.

I'm still in the process of losing but I'm about halfway to my ultimate goal weight I feel great! My body is adjusting to the thinner me as I tend to catch myself slouching a bit sometimes or sitting way back from a table bc of my pre-existing belly hehe I'm waking up feeling good about myself! I'm working my way to going to clothing stores even though I really don't want to lol I am energized in a different way and it feels amazing! I also gained back some of my spunk!
I'm a pretty nice and friendly person. My inside personality is finally matching what my outside appearance should have always been. If anything I'm getting noticed by guys and it feels kind of nice. But I have the foggest idea on what I'm doing..I never really had this kind of attention before so I'm kind of awkward and shy when guys compliment me lol
But hey in the end of the day I look at myself in the mirror and always say "you are looking great, you are amazing! You've made it this far and you'll keep going. You got this. I love you!" *I've had low self-esteem all my life*

I too can cross my legs. Put on my socks without a struggle. Even being able to wrap a towel around me after my shower. One really big experience for me was going to Dillards the other day and instead of going straight for women's plus department I decided to give Xl a try and went to so many other departments found out I can wear XL but Large also fit. Now I dont know what to wear because I have so many old clothes that fit again. Even looking in the mirror is fun. I really enjoy going out and not getting tired. I use to have to rest because my knee and back hurt so much. I still need 36 lbs to go. My new adventure is I joined a gym and will start tomorrow with my daughter.
