grruss got a reaction from nunya-got-sleeved in Vaping after Surgery
It is a nicotine delivery method, if you choose to use nicotine. Leading up to my VSG, I have gone to zero nicotine. It is NOT smoking. No leaves are being burned, hence no tar, arsenic, benzene, etc. etc. Many think I'm splitting hairs here because of what vaping looks like, but make no mistake. It is NOT smoking.
Allow me to be frank right along with you. Nicotine is NOT a carcinogen. It is a mild stimulant, much like caffeine. There is evidence that it could slow the post-surgical healing process, which is why most docs want zero nicotine tests before doing surgery, but it's many other chemicals in cigs that cause cancer, not nicotine.
The thing is, unless you have a vested interest, you would never do your homework. Most people just take the information fed to them by main stream media as fact. The facts are much different, and I can support everything I say. I'm with you! Most don't do their due diligence because it's so much easier to criticize something that looks like smoking. It's not like they care or anything.

grruss got a reaction from Ruby Woo in Rumbling, grumbling, boiling
I am 4 days post op. I am virtually pain free, for which I am extremely grateful. It's been an interesting few days. I've had a few hours of reflux type symptoms, but the worst thing so far is that my gut sounds like there's a helluva party going on in there. It's just constantly growling and grumbling. Not painful, just noisy. Anyone else experience this?

Not always, but sometimes it's crazy loud! I'm 5 days post op. Also in no pain, having a smooth recovery, but it's funny when the room is quiet and my stomach is like, "hey everyone, listen to me!!"

grruss got a reaction from Comicbookguy in Michigan Sleevers
The surgery was two days ago, and so far, so good. Schram is a good guy, and the staff here at Blodgett has been great. Going home today. We'll see how that goes.

Had my sleeve done August 18 in Grand Rapids at Blodget by Dr. Jon Schram. If anyone is reading this who has not had the surgery but is thinking about it I highly recommend him.

Scheduled for Surgery September 1, 2015 with Dr. Maytorena in Tijuana. It is almost here and I am getting anxious and of course a little nervous. Never had any type of surgical procedure before but I am optimistic and positive about going thru with it.

This is such an interesting thread for me to read. It's clear that everyone has a way that works... From Allen Carr, to patched, gum, lozenges, Chantix, an app, and vaping (the way that finally worked for me) to just powering through. It's clear that there are as many ways as there are people, really. Whatever works! Let's get this done!

Quitting smoking is very hard! Here is a blog post I wrote on the subject...
"We aren’t a smoking cessation program. We can’t claim it, and we don’t. We do know that lots of folks use vaping as an alternative to smoking, and eventually replace smoking with vaping. We have many customers who thank us for “helping them quit smoking.” People tell us every day that they have tried Patches, gums, lozenges, and pharmaceuticals in an attempt to quit, all to no avail. Or, they tell us, they don’t like the idea of the side effects of the pharmaceuticals. We hear countless stories of people who have smoked for five, ten, twenty, even fifty plus years, and no longer smoke because they now use personal vaporizers instead.
We wonder why it works. This is just conjecture on our part. There is no science here, only common sense. What is missing from all of the aforementioned smoking cessation products and programs? Ritual.Have you ever heard a smoker say how satisfying it is to have a cup of coffee and a patch after a meal? Or how they love to roll out of bed in the morning and grab a lozenge?
All of the approved smoking cessation programs deliver nicotine. If we were nothing more than a walking, talking pile of nicotine receptors, they would work. There’s more to it than that. As a former smoker, I can tell you that there is something relaxing about sitting and and inhaling, there is something about the hand to mouth motion, and there is something about the nicotine. With vaping I still get all of that, without the tar. So, that’s a choice I’ve made.
Care to join me for coffee and a vape?"

I am a vape queen. I gave up cigarettes the day of surgery after 30 years too. I love vaping and it gets me through the torture of recovery. Unless you have a dog in this fight you should really save your comments to things you know about.

I never stopped vaping. I did, however, move to 0 nicotine a few months before surgery. I am now 8 weeks postop and have been vaping since the day I left the hospital. My doctor was fine with it. Since vaping is NOT using tobacco products or combustion, it does not cause you to heal more slowly or increase the risks of DVT or pneumonia. Even if you do vape low nicotine, it isn't enough to cause issues. Some of my juices now are 4 or 6 mg and I have had zero problems.

Smoking marijuana? I was straight with my doctor as I always am. No secrets between me and my surgeon. I have decided to stop smoking marijuana until after surgery and I am healed. I'm still trying to figure out if smoking weed causes ulcers. Wiki answers says yes but other pages say it helps with ulcers so idk. It will also be important to manage your munchies after smoking. Don't over il indulge and get sick and/or stretch your pouch. I think it best to be as honest as can be with your doctor, after all, He's operating on you and needs to know everything! Good luck! :-)
