I know what you are going through. I am 8 years out. My high since surgery and regain was up to 189 in 2016. I lost roughly 20 pounds just making better choices in 2 years. In June this year was at 168. That’s when I said enough was enough. I still had the tool to help me be successful. I went back to basics. Today I am down to 130. That’s 38 pounds in 6.5 months. I stopped snacking, and that’s hard with an overweight hubby and an 11 year old. I started Protein Shakes again, and only drinking Water. I stopped all sugar and artificial sugars. I also stopped any added carbs to my food. My biggest help was logging all of my food. I’m not going to say it’s been easy. It sure as heck wasn’t. I chose surgery in the first place to be healthy and around longer for my family. Then the hell I was put through with 8 months in the hospital with many complications and more surgeries because of it. I finally snapped out of my PTSD and depression from it all.

Try going back to basics. Log all of your Protein, watch carbs and sugar intakes. I am now 3 pounds lower than my lowest after surgery weight. IF isn’t for everyone, but it worked wonders for me. I came back to this site, got the needed support I needed. I made sure with all the crap my family eats that I had better options in the house. I started taking a bariatric multi Vitamin again. I also tracked down my surgeon who had left the Army after we had moved on as well. He is the only one who truly knows what my post multiple surgery body is like. He has been a big help to get my digestion back that no other doctors and specialists could help me with. I took back my health, that’s why we all chose this path anyways.

Good luck in this new journey. Know that we are all here for you. You’ve got this.

Hi, I’m 4 years out and skipped my 3 year appointment because all off my labs to that point had been fine. I had labs in Sept and now my Iron is low as well as D2 and B12. What a difference a few years makes so I would say it’s worth it to check in every year. I didn’t have any idea how bad my levels were.

When it comes to faces, it does seem like a lot of us go through phases where we look a little sunken and sickly, but it does seem to even out eventually. Age seems to have a lot to do with it. For younger people, the skin and plumpness seem to bounce back eventually in maintenance. For older people, they can end up with some sagging skin in their neck and jowls.
But I will say the same thing about this as I do to the people who fear hair loss and loose skin... no one ever died from it. People die every single day from obesity-related illnesses!

Yes I get this all the time! I don't take offense or feel as if people are being too opinionated or invasive. There are people I work with who may not know me personally but have seen me around who say wow you look great you don't plan to lose more do you? or People who know me well who say you look good right there don't lose anymore because you are a nice weight and you still have great curves you don't want to lose that.
My mom feels like I should ignore everyone lose as much as I can because why else go to this extreme to have surgery without achieving the highest weight loss possible.
I feel like I'm a good weight too but I know I want to lose a little more just to have some wiggle room. I'm 5 '4 166 pear shaped size 8-10. 160 would be a max weight 150 would be a reach weight. 140 was my original goal but now I don 't think I want to go lower than 150 lb.
So all that matters is what you think and feel. let them say whatever I take it as a compliment that people think you're getting too skinny lol! I've been wanting that problem for years.

How bout responding by asking if they had sex last night? Their question to you is just as intrusive. I'm sure if you do it once, they'll never ask you if you are getting too thin again. It's what I used to do to people who would ask my husband and I when we were going to have kids. Make sure you smile when you say it -- and when they look shocked tell them what they are asking is not a matter of public discussion but between you and your MD.

I am 16 months out and took a break from actively loosening the past three months I've needed to wrap my head around some similar feelings. I've never been below 160 since early teen years and I'm now low 154ish. I'm just now ready to kick back into gear and see where my body weight ends up. I think your might just take some time to process your new body and let go of how you thought you would feel.

soundview reacted to esskay77 in What Is Your Policy on Carbs?
Carbs are my enemy and I don't always know how to handle them.
First, I'm old school. Back when a carb was strictly a starch. Not a fruit or a veg. So, in my head when I hear carbs I may not be thinking the same thing everyone else is.
Second, I try to avoid starches as much as possible but it's really hard. At work, when the company buys lunches (which luckily isn't that often), they get pizza. I try to make sure they get some with chicken on it so I just eat the toppings and throw the crust away. It is amazing how many times I am in a situation where the group food is pizza. Not just at work but in extra curricular activities/meetings, etc. It's almost always pizza. It's easy, it gets delivered, and it is fairly cheap when feeding a lot of people. And it is easy to eat on paper plates.
I have a group of friends--one is a vegetarian, one doesn't eat seafood, I eat the way I am trying to eat here, etc. Again, Pasta always seems to be everyone's answer to what to bring to a dinner or brunch. In fact, it will happen today! I can guarantee the vegetarian will bring a vegetarian lasagna! Luckily, there will be scrambled eggs so I'll have that with some hot sauce on them. And then I'm good.
Third, it seems that fruit and some veg are now considered carbs. I do have fruit and veg. For veg, I try to stay with celery, radishes, red and green peppers, onions, tomatoes. Those are all my go to veggies. I LOVE fruit but try to keep it to a minimum. But I don't freak out over too much fruit since it is a rare thing.
Fourth. The one thing that really keeps me going on staying away from carbs as much as possible (though I do have some starch on occasion) is that before surgery, I had legs, ankles, and feet that were swollen with fluid--so swollen I could barely get my shoes on!! Lymphedema I guess it is called, or pitted edema actually. If I pressed my thumb into my leg/ankle/foot, it would stay pressed in for a bit after I removed my thumb. That is all gone now!!!!! This is the biggest thrill for me and it keeps me going. When I was in my late teens, early twenties, my legs/ankles/feet were my best asset and I have them back! You have no idea how "Huge" this is! (yes, pun intended). I attribute it to the carbs.
I have stopped counting grams of anything so this topic made me realize I have to get back to basics and start counting again!!
But I hate carbs, I fear carbs, I wish all the fun and easy food weren't carby.

After some of the posts here about what people are eating, I'm definitely going to bring this up to my nutritionist and see what she has to say because now it's a pretty big concern of mine.

You're my hero for bravery and honesty! I feel these same exact feelings. I'm only 8 months out but have lost almost all the weight and now things are easier and have sorta leveled out, I feel myself pushing the boundaries a little and making the rules a little fuzzy around the edges
BUT I am a firm believer that we can always press the reset button. This surgery has taught me how to reboot my dumb brains, and there's no use in beating ourselves up, but rather we can just get hecka motivated and junk and change whatever it is that's bugging us! Yay!
    Thanks for this post! <3

Without a past, you'd have no present. You'd have no husband, family, surgery or anything else. Poof! The good news is that was then and this is now. You knew the truth or you'd weigh 254 at this very moment. You weren't ready for anything else before exactly two years ago. Then something changed and here you are, slim, healthier and more beautiful. The whole thing is called real life and you, dear Jenn, like the rest of us, are not exempt. You've given birth to yourself -- the picture that matches your inner being. How bad can that be? (P.S. Your family's comments were unkind and uncalled for. Tell them so without a ruckus. "Darling, you are wonderful" would have been so much better from them. They don't have to have walked in your shoes. They merely need to be more respectful.)

Its not so much my appearance that has me a bit unraveled tonight...It's what was going on inside myself. The emotional pain and depression was overwhelming...Here is my most human moment...I really did not want to live just to get a break from the pain.
The photos took me back to that for a moment. I am not that person in the photos in so many way's.

I am the SAME way! I still haven't posted any before and after pictures because I am just not sure I am ready to face how big I was! I think I need to dig them out though. I only kept one pair of old pants and took them out and tried them on probably 2 months ago and was astonished! I didn't want to put them on but knew I sort of needed to face it. And now I need to do the same thing with photos I think. It is hard to hear "I don't recognize you! You look fantastic" because mostly I hear "Holy cow you were HUGE before!" and I definitely lived in denial about that. BUT I know everyone means well. Maybe recognizing the life we did have will bring more joy in the life we have now? Rejoice in who you are and the hard work you have put in to this! You were still you then and you are still you now but now you have a purpose in something different you didn't have before!
Didn't mean to hijack your post but just wanted to say that I think this is totally normal for all of us!! And I truly hope the denial of it our past passes!

I don't notice a huge difference in how I look yet, (but man do I notice a HUGE difference in how I feel and my energy level already).

I was self-pay but was still required to attend all of the nutrition classes, see a NUT, and have a psych clearance. Fortunately, I had an outstanding, very experienced surgeon at a hospital with a robust program. We had one program fee that everyone paid (regardless of whether you had insurance or not) that guaranteed we had access to all of the services.

About a year ago, I had my sleeve surgery. It's been a long road with a few bumps every now and again, but I would do it over in a minute. I'm a slow loser and because I carry my weight in my legs (lipedema) I may never get to "thin" but I'm much healthier and happier now than I was. I'm posting before and after pix here!

Hi, I wanted to introduce myself. I 36 and married with 3 boys. My blood pressure has beengoing up for the past few years along with my weight. My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer recently and that has made me want to make a major change. My husbands been the same weight 185lbs 6ft tall for all of our 13 years together. His family has a history of living healthy and independant into their 90s. My mom is 58 and 200lbs overweight and she has lost both of her sisters in the past 7 yrs to health problems.
So here I am, I have a bmi of 47 and need to loose about 130-150 lbs. I feel like the sleeve might give me a chance to deal with my health and hopefully grow old with my husband.
