    ttdish got a reaction from dorothy510 in Your surgeon's post-op liquid/food phases
My surgeon's plan allows real food very early on. I was having cottage cheese and yogurt on day 3. He's been doing it this way for years with no problems. Here is what the plan looks like:

I also did a YouTube video describing my first few weeks, since it is SO different from most of the plans I see. No clear or full liquid phase at all once I was discharged.

The thing that people early out from WLS seem to forget or not even realize (and I consider myself still early out) is that restriction isn't forever. There's going to come a time where you will be able to eat a normal sized portion of food, albeit smaller than the humongous portions most Americans eat. Either way, more than we can now. So what you're choosing to put in your mouth will be that much more important when the time comes to maintain the weight you've lost. So I guess my point is lean protien and veggies should still make up most of the bulk of our meals in order to maintain. You start making carbs and sugar the priority--which I've seen happen when people start getting lax with them because they are addicting--THAT'S when weight gain happens. Don't believe me? Ask my husband who had an RNY 9 years ago and got lax with drinking empty calories, sugar and carbs and started packing on the pounds. It wasn't until he went back to the basics of very limited carbs and protien first and then veggies did he get it back under control. Does he indulge occasionally? Sure, but VERY occasionally. Otherwise, he will be right back to square one.
You all are fooling yourselves if you think you can moderate those things and live happily ever after. Sorry, but I speak the truth. We have the disease of obesity, and the only ongoing treatment is moderation and even avoidance of certain foods for the rest of our lives, or weight will be regained.

Mind if I piggyback and share my channel as well? I'm 2.5 weeks post op. And started my videos during my pre-op diet.
If this link doesn't work, my channel is called "Trisha's Sleeve Story." https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5VTXLqKa3xU

Upon reading all of this thread I just have to add this. Most of us have issues making good choices to begin with. Examples are with our health, as in food choices and when to say enough on eating. Most of us had surgery to help us with that. Eating less and eating better. So why do we find it shocking that some choose not so great things still after surgery? I mean YES it is shocking, but is it really? Think about it. If it was easy to make the right decisions on our health, would we be posting on this page or having this surgery? Hopefully with the help of people (doctors, psychologist, NUT and friends) we can LEARN that the choices we make can be destructive (eating, drinking not so good things). But it's all a learning process. Ridding ourselves of destructive bad habits and behavior. Just my two cents.

I'm 12 days post-op and down about not losing more. However, the inches are looking very good. Also, I bought an 8 lb stick of hamburger the other day to make chili for a cookout. I thought to myself, I wonder if that really weighs 8 lb. So, I went to my scales and weighed myself holding it and then without. Then I thought, OMG, that's 8 lb! Just think of that on your body. It really hit me what "only" 8 pounds was in reality!

Only down 24 lbs? ONLY? That's an accomplishment in and of itself. That is something to be proud of and obviously it already is working. It sounds like y'all may just be experiencing the dreaded "3 week stall" I just got over mine and today marks 4 weeks past surgery (23 lbs down) and the scale finally dropped 3 lbs as if over night. Don't beat yourself up. 24 lbs in a month is successful.

True. What I'm trying to say is don't go in with the mindset of "I want to lose x amount, but statistically I'll probably only lose xx amount." Thats setting yourself up for only losing 65%! This game is mental more than anything and our minds can manifest outcomes!! Go in fully confident in yourself committed to doing what it takes to get to your goal weight.
I've seen many more people here achieving goal weight than not.

Wondering at the start of each season whether my clothes from last year will fit (almost always, the answer is no).
My feet hurting just from walking around the grocery store.
Turning down social invites because they involve too much walking and I'm afraid I won't be able to keep up.

Not always, but sometimes it's crazy loud! I'm 5 days post op. Also in no pain, having a smooth recovery, but it's funny when the room is quiet and my stomach is like, "hey everyone, listen to me!!"

Or to be able to wear heels for more than 10 minutes without feeling like I want to cut my feet off! All that extra weight is hard to carry in those dainty shoes!

I get that it can be frustrating to watch people lose 10, 15, 20 pounds in a week, but you can't compare your journey to anyone else.
Someone with a BMI of 55 will likely have a faster initial loss than someone with a BMI of 40. Those who lost a bunch on the pre-op diet may lose less their first week post op because that first "easy" 10 pounds or so of Water weight is gone. Someone with a smooth recovery who gets moving early on may lose at a faster pace than someone dealing with constant pain and nausea for the first week.
We need to give ourselves a break, do our best and Celebrate every pound that gets us closer to our new, healthier life.

Luckily, my plan has allowed for small amounts of food since day three, which I think really has helped me avoided crazy cravings...
But, I would say try to stay hydrated. If you know you are going to be around tempting food, fill that tiny tummy up with some broth, so even if you are really craving something, there is no room.
I've also heard that reflux can mimic hunger... Are you on anything for reflux? My surgeon puts all of his patients on Prilosec for three months post op. Less acid means better healing as well.
    Good luck!!

ttdish reacted to ForLfKlovr in Protein powder - Smaller scoop?
My husband suggested that I take 1 scoop of unflavored Protein powder and sprinkle it on things throughout the day (pudding, cottage cheese...). By the end of the day, I would get in that amount of Protein (let's say 24 grams - depending on what brand of protein you use). I think that is a super idea but haven't tried it yet. I tried to add a whole scoop to some broth at the beginning of my full liquids stage and it was not tasty to me at all. Good Luck to you!
