  1. wow, thanks so much for all the comments. altho, its kinda weird but i talked to my doc today and he said that as long as I was not having problems with gas, then diet soda was fine for me to drink (and I'm only 4 wks. out) so i don't know what to do, i guess i like my doc's response better, so i will drink my diet coke.
  2. I have had my band for about 4 weeks, and I have had no problems. The first 3 weeks I only drank water and gatorade, but now that I am eating real food I am craving diet sodas. I have been drinking one or two diet sodas a day for the past week or so and I have had no probs with gas or anything. I was just wondering if diet drinks are okay. Can they in anyway harm the band? Do you drink diet soda post- lap band?
  3. calm down, i know that every situation is different but my doctor didnt even put me on a pre-diet and my surgery was wonderful.
  4. I have a question 4 new_jewel . did u go on a pre-op diet? did u loose weight before ur surgery. because u have lost a lot of weight quick.
  5. Well, I don't think that drinking with meals or sucking on ice in any way actaully can hurt the band. i was told by my doctor that the reason u cant drink with meals is...the liquid causes the food to exist the small pouch, then you will not get feel for a long time. and u will be hungry again quickly after eating. drinking with meals completely defeats the purpose of the band.
  6. I was banded on May 9, 2008 and I am on mushy foods right now. I have had no problem with eating, and I haven't been sick at all. The only thing that I completely hate about lap band is the fact that I can not drink while I eat. UGH, I love spicy food and its so hard to enjoy it when ur mouth is on fire. I know that it's more than a fair trade: No drinking with meals or for an hour after eating VS being fat...BuT, its still really hard for me. Anyone else feel the same or have another problem with having lap band?
  7. I had my surgery on May 9th, 08. Before my surgery, I didn't want to tell anyone about my procedure, I thought they would say, "Why are u paying all that money, Why don't you just go on a diet?"... But then I thought about it, I have so many friends and family members that are extremely over-weight as well and I thought that if I shared the entire process with them, then maybe they would consider the procedure as well. I am also very proud of myself for making the decision to have this huge life changing procedure, and i just really wanted to share my excitment. Also, my mother and father self-payed 16,100 dollars for my surgery, and i was apreciative of them, so I decided I want to tell ppl about my surgery so that they others would know how wonderful my parents are. I guess everyone is different, but I think that when u are open about what u have had done, or will be doing, u spread the word about the most wonderful surgery in the world. Don't be ashamed of having lap band, be proud, its hard work.
  8. well my doc didnt make me go on a pre-op diet. but i am 12 days out of surgery and have lost 14 pounds. and that 14 lbs was lost in the first 6 days, im not sure where im at right now with my weight. good luck to everybody else.
  9. I am a 19 year old college student who was banded almost 2 wks.ago. I have had no problems what so ever. I am still in the liquid phase so I havent starting eating again, but what I do know is that i am in the hardest part of the post-op phase and I can honestly say that I would do this again if i had to. It has been wonderful to not be hungry. at one week out I had already lost 14 lbs. but remember this is not always a quick fix surgery and this will be a part of u for the rest of ur life. oh by the way, i have told everybody about my surgery. I guess because i am so proud of myself for going threw with it and i am so thank ful that my parents paid 16 thousand for it.
  10. oh my gosh i m in the same boat and i have no idea what i'm going to do either. im hungry and bored
  11. Hey, i was banded on the 9th as well. yes, yes, yes... i have the gas in my chest in all through my body , its horrible it just normally goes away pretty quick but man i hope i dont have to live the rest of my life with this gas.
  12. Is the area around your port bruised, because mine is and its very sore.
  13. Wow, 6weeks only liquids. My doctor has on put me on 14 days of liquid. I was banded May 9th and I am doing fine. Yes, I have had sharp pains in my shoulders and chest. My doc said its just gas. take lots of milk of mag and it should get better.
  14. Oh my. I feel the same way. I am currently 19 years old and I know that I want to be banded, but it is such a big decision. I mean, I'm going to have to deal with this decison for the rest of my life, but I guess this is all better than dealing with being overweight for the rest of my life.
  15. I am a 19 year old female and I have been considering the lap band procedure for a quite awhile now, but I have one big question. What is pregnancy like with a lap band in place? Is it healthy for both the mother and baby? If anyone has had a baby since being banded please inform me of your experience. Thanks.
