soonsleeved reacted to Maggietcu2 in Needing a sleeve buddy
Hey! You hang in there! One or the other ... sleeve or new baby ... is enough for anyone and you have your hands full with both. Of course you need a buddy to vent with!! Is there a support group associated with your clinic or in your area? Maybe a bariatric psychologist? I bet even a good hug would help!

I'm low BMI also. BMI is a 37.5 but I have comorbidities (HBP, sleep apnea, GERD, joint pain) and im also hypothyroid. My family and friends have given me a slew of "you're not big enough" comments. Im tired of losing and regaining plus id love for my comorbidities to go away after surgery.

I'm in!!! I'm on day 3 of pre-op diet & being sleeved 21 May (yikes).
My BMI was 36 and I too receive comments like 'you don't need it' and 'why not just join a gym'
Seriously? I'm like 5 foot and look like I got stuck inside a swim tube, although I must admit none of them have seen me naked (I don't even like to look)!
I had intended to keep it to myself, hubby & kids due to the negativity from others and shame that I couldn't do it alone (the rest of the family just assumes I am lazy, pfft I walk 6km almost every day).
Then I got to thinking, they don't know my journey so far or that the treatment for my diabetes piles the weight on, or that the dietary treatment for it is carbs first, coupled with hypertension and sleep apnoea.
I'm not making a big announcement or anything, but if I'm asked I'm not going to try and hide it. This was a huge decision, a lifelong commitment but I know that this is my only hope of taking back control.
Looking forward to following everyone's journey!

There is always pain with any type of surgery. You will heal with time. Since this is your first experience I understand the freak out. If you have questions ask your Dr. I hope this will put your mind at ease.
The pain is temporary your results will be amazing.

Hi everyone,
I'm 29, from Dallas. No kids, and I just had the Gastric Sleeve done in Frisco, TX. I'm freaking out a little, I've never had any type or surgery before, so the whole recovery thing is quite new to me.
I'm also scared of everything, like my left arm hurts (im assuming from the IV) and the outside of my left thigh is numb!
Actually I'm freaking out a lot. If I could get some advice or some words of comfort that'd be great.
Thank you all!

soonsleeved reacted to jaczim in How to Research Mexico Surgeons
I am considering gastric sleeve, my insurance won't cover it, and I am very close to making arrangements for doing this in Mexico-- aiming for August 2015. I've done lots of internet research but, worry that some of what I read is written, or sponsored, by the surgeon. Any thoughts as to how to get some objective information? Should they be certified by, or a member of a certain organization? I am also worried about after care, i.e. if I have a leak afterwards are we going to loose our house from the resulting medical bills, states side? I really want to do this. I just want to be cautious and make the most informed choice. Any thoughts or advice is welcome!! I am considering Dr. Fernando Garcia in Tijuana. Thanks in advance for any help!

soonsleeved reacted to berrych80 in Doctors in Tijuana and their location
I'm not sleeve yet, but I chose Dr. Carlos Altamirano, great great great DUDE, I did my research on him, with his patients, with reviews here and there, I Skype with him, with the nutritionist and the internist doctor contacted me to review my medical history, I'm schedule on december, and I have faith that I'm making the best decision ever, he performs his surgery at Oasis of Hope, I also did my research on that hospital, and it's not a clinic, it is a hospital, which is a plus for me, just in case anything goes wrong, I want them to be prepare, they are also giving me 2 years follow up with my nutritionist. Givve them a try!!

soonsleeved reacted to TrialAtty in Any Kaiser Permanente Patients?
Generally positive. The Options class was a hassle, and I had a 6 month delay between referral and surgery, but the surgeon was great, the staff good, and so far so good.

Kaiser Permanente has an entire Bariatric Center in CA. I know because I had KP in GA but was not covered under Obamacare.
BTW, I now have Humana under Obamacare and approval was breeze!
Best of luck to you!

CAN YOU SAY HAPPY?????
I had my sleeve surgery performed by Dr. Ramos Kelly in Mexico on May 25, 2015 and cannot imagine having a better possible experience and outcome! He is a highly experienced surgeon specializing in bariatrics with a background in trauma care as well. That was important to me in case i had any issues during the procedure. He was just tremendous in all aspects.
I am now 1 week post op as of tomorrow and I NEVER thought i could possibly feel so incredible...so fast...after this procedure!! I have had ZERO issues whatsoever. I have lost 17 lbs since 4 days pre op.
I feel AMAZING and will share further pre and post op details over the next few days and am totally willing to speak on the phone or over email with anyone considering this life changing surgery. I would shout my happiness from the mountaintops if i somehow could!!
I cannot begin to express my gratitude to Dr. Kelly and everyone involved with my care. I get somewhat emotional even talking about it because my gratitude runs so deep ... and i am not sure how one can express it adequately. They started me down the best path i have been on possibly in decades and they also probably extending my life in general. There are simply not enough words...

soonsleeved reacted to Sara51692 in My Black Bean Soup Story
So it's been a little over a week since I was sleeved and well over two weeks since I started my full liquids diet. I started getting sick of Greek yogurts, popsicles, chocolate Protein Shakes, and Tomato Soup. All so sweet! So today I decided to make black bean soup! It's easy to puree, will provide Protein, and will satisfy my savory craving. So I made the Soup, and like any good home cook, I took a few (liquid) tastes throughout the process to check seasoning. Finally, the soup was finished. I took one last taste and the seasoning was spot on! I stared at the pureed result in my Ninja blender and realized... I was full!
I still can't stop laughing at the ridiculousness of being full from making my soup without even pouring myself some! Guess this is my future - lots and lots of leftovers!
