I found out I got approved today. I called the insurance thinking I could find out if it's being looked at & the lady said I was approved on October 12th. Called the surgeon's office and scheduled to meet with him & set my date. I feel blank...kinda like omg is this all real feeling.

From start (seminar) to surgery I've spent about eight months. My insurance required six months of nutrition visits and five years of documented weights from my primary care physician. It's been a long several months of jumping through the hoops, but I have my pre-op testing on the 8th and my surgery is scheduled for 10/26/15! I'm so excited, and so very hopeful, that this might finally help me get down to a healthy weight.
I'm very lucky, I don't have any formally diagnosed comorbidities...yet. I feel like it would only be a matter of time, and I can see my blood pressure creeping up towards hypertension. Fairly extensive family history of cardiac issues, I'd really like to avoid some of those problems if I can!

I didn't think it was an option because of my insurance & because I live in a semi small town & never knew 1 person that had it done let alone where to go. It was all unknown.

I had the surgery primarily because of medical issues. All these problems such as diabetes and high blood pressure have been building up over the years and now my body was starting to break down. The surgery threw all these conditions into remission. Just like that! Within days! So I was overjoyed. The added benefits were I lost 115 pounds and kept it off. I had more stamina (the ability to perform physical labor). And I could once again go to a normal department store and buy the latest fashions.
I guess I am not a ball of emotions. Probably quite the opposite! I let logic rule!

It's so normal! I was feeling the same way throughout my 6 mths of this process up untile the day of surgery. I told my partner so many times... "Am I doing the right thing?" Turns out so far I did. I am two weeks out and lost 20 lbs so far (40 since jan). I'm finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.
    Just keep going!

You wouldn't be true to yourself if you weren't feeling this way. I'm nearly a week post op and I still feel this way. Every step of the journey is a learning process, and that's exciting and scary at the same time. Perfectly normal.
What helps me is to always circle back to how I felt when I first initiated the process for wls. And most of all to think about where I would be right now if I hadn't pursued the surgery, and that word comes instantly: miserable.
I have no regrets. And I think you won't either. One day at a time!
    Good luck!

I am having so many different emotions lately. In a week I meet with my dietician the in September I'll take my last class which is surgery prep, hospital time & post op. After that class I will schedule with the surgeon. If he gives the all clear then everything will be sent to my insurance then we wait if approved schedule surgery. All of that has been going through my head. I've done the omg omg os this real...I look at non plus size & I wanna be excited but instead I wanna cry. Is anyone else a ball of emotions?

There are other options than a gym membership that you might want to consider too. I was able to buy 2nd (sometimes 3rd) hand work out equipment (treadmill, elliptical) on Craig's List very cheaply. Just had to arrange for pick up. Sometimes you can even find ads where they're giving them away for free.
I got a quality set of exercise bands off of eBay for about $15. As far as weight training you can even use stuff around the house, like plastic milk cartons filled with Water or larger food tins. You can check out the thrift stores as well for stuff like an exercise ball or workout tapes. Thrift stores are full of prime gold just waiting to be mined!
Before getting my exercise equipment though, I used to make laps around my car in the garage with my headphones on, if the weather was off, or my work/home schedule was tight. I also use my lunch time at work to walk as well.
Sometimes you've just got to get creative. Best of luck to you!

    Mrs. Youngblood,
I just had my surgery June 15th. I'm still in the hospital should be discharged today. I really feel for you about your support from your family. It has been my experience that bariatric surgery is hard enough to get your head wrapped around the the changes you'll be making in your life. Not trying to discourage you but this will a lifelong change and I say there are three kinds of people, there are the people that have never had a problem with their weight, then you have the people who haven't admitted they have a problem with their weight, last but not least people like us that have admitted and are making changes to break the cycle of failed attempts at weight loss. I personally have had the opportunity to attend over 12 different support groups and have gathered the needed information to successfully change my life forever. Statistics state that people that attend support groups will generally do better than one's who don't. Having a local support groups that I was able attend has given me the advantage to what kinds of hurdles I will need to face to become successful. Not everyone's story will be the same but you can use all the information you can soak up from support groups to your advantage. My wife had a sleeve and she has managed to loose 115lbs, I personally lost 30lbs on the pre surgical diet. The point of the pre surgical diet is to change the way you eat and give you a chance to practice logging your calorie, nutrients, and also to shrink your liver, to make the procedure go smoother for the surgeon and in return you'll benefit from it because you'll have a real good idea of what you'll need to do. I have also experienced that if something is difficult to do it is usually we'll worth the effort you put into it in the end. Once I look back at something I've done I usually think to myself that wasn't as big of a challenge as it looked to be coming at it head on. Best of luck you are among friends here.

I know the Vitamins are a must but I was told it didn't have to be the ones specifically for bariatric patients. They gave us a list & we can make up our own cocktail to get everything on the list. Soooo I've been trying to figure that out.

    We have a Vitaminshoppe and a Sam's.
I dropped Sam's membership after costco came to town. May be time to ease back in there and look around.
