  1. Just follow what your surgeon wants you to follow. Easy!
  2. It seems like a long time but in the overall picture its nothing. The time will fly and it will be SO worth it. Keep strong
  3. I made sure the house was cleaned top to bottom, larder and fridge/freezer stocked and son, who was home from school, primed to jump if I asked for him. I was fine getting in and out of bed, off the loo and in/out of the shower. I didn't have problems with stairs and I didn't go out of the house for over a week. I was very careful with what I did and when I did it. My biggest issue was the heparin injections which I had to take for 21 days twice day. After 2 weeks I called the surgeon and near enough begged him to let me come off them. My tummy was black and blue and sore and once I was off them life was good and MUCH easier lol.
  4. Congratulations on being approved @@jusarte!! A year is a long time to wait for the go ahead but it will really be worth it
  5. Congratulations on your surgery date and being approved so quickly!!
  6. @shellyd88 You go girl !! Inspiring and amazing and I have no doubt you will reach your goal
  7. @@byebyefat Congratulations on getting your surgery date!!
  8. Initially I made a decision only to tell my husband, best friend and friends/work colleagues I go for lunch with during the week. My Manager knew too. I left it like that for weeks and that's how I wanted it to stay. However the week before the surgery date, some people at work had noticed that I was marked off sick for a month on our team calendar and asked if I was having issues with my neck (I have spinal stenosis) and decided have an op and I just told them the truth. For me, at that time, It felt quite liberating !!
  9. What's your daily limit for carbs?
  10. What Proteins are you having ? Are you getting all your fluids/vitamins in? You are bound to be tired/weak, you just had major surgery! Speak to your team and see what they say. Personally I wouldn't be touching rice.
  11. @chrisredjeep Its a shame they don't do samples in the UK, like they do elsewhere. Would save a lot of money in the long run. I think I was just lucky with mine, I loved them pre op and I am still loving them now.
  12. Have you tried a warm drink first ting in the morning, or try different temperatures of drinks through the day. If its the sickness and the medication isn't working, I would contact your team or GP and ask their advice. Hope you feel better soon!
  13. Having been here a few months now, it’s become obvious that it’s so different for people having weight loss surgery in the UK. Procedures here before WLS is different. Most of the people over the pond have it through their insurance and this means a lot of pre operation meetings/assessments/work, over many months. In some ways I feel this is good, as people get to learn so much before having their surgery. However that’s not the usual way here in the UK. You tend to learn ‘in the moment’. If you are eligible for WLS through the National Health Service, you may have to wait for a long time, 2 to 3 or up to 10 years unless you are at the stage where your weight is life or death. So, many fund it themselves. I think this site is excellent for advice and support however it does mainly tend to show what happens in the States, where you can buy certain things and what’s available. So here’s a few things (not exclusive, would love it if others add stuff here too) I have learnt in my very short weeks since surgery. PLEASE can we all add our own likes/dislikes, UK advice etc etc Bariatric cookery books are excellent however there are many other options to learn about pre and post op foods. My dietitian is great but I have learnt so much through researching online. There are so many Bariatric Centres all over the world showing what you can eat pre ad post op and as long as you add a dash of common sense, it can work well. For example; if I read from a Bariatric Centre that I could eat tuna on day 3, I would be clicking the X asap!! Centrum advantage chewable Vitamins are lovely and recommended by UK Dietitians for post bariatric surgery. Tesco’s have them on offer at the moment, 3 for 2. They have carbs, but balancing a few carbs for nice tasting vitamins isn’t going to kill me for the time being. Keep your fridge/cupboard stocked once you know what goes down well for you. Don’t spend too much in advance in case you don’t like it. I spent a lot on liquid Iron without asking around and my god, it was disgusting. I took it twice then threw it away. I could have asked here and go advice but I didn’t. (see below) Use this UK forum to keep in touch with others in the UK to ask for and pass on advice. We aren’t the minority in the world for WLS however we are a small group here. Make friends here, they can be the best support you can ask for! OVER TO YOU !!!

  17. Walk, walk, walk then walk some more. Hope you feel better soon !
  18. I would contact your team and let them know. they will decided if the surgery can go ahead. You can try Vitamin C which you can mix with water and x the dose by 3. That always cuts a cold in half for me. Best of luck getting rid of it.
  19. Best wishes for an easy surgery and speedy recovery. This is the first day of your new exciting life !!
