I'm at a function now...having Grey Goose and Water with Grape Mio. Have a good time while on this journey everyone! Too many people are up tight. We are changing so many other habits to combat obesity...we need an outlet as well.

johnny207 reacted to Miss Mac in Is there any savings on food after surgery ?
My Mediterranean chef boyfriend does the cooking here, and he shops in the European style of picking up fresh foods about every other day. We get more from Pete's Fresh instead of Aldi's, but we still get dairy, eggs, and tuna at Aldi's. So, I was eating an excellent Mediterranen diet before surgery, but my portions were horribly distorted. With that big ol' stomach and 53" belly, you would think I was a linebacker.
As much as I loved homemade pastas and raviolis, I do not eat them at all now.
Where we save big money is that I am not going through drivethroughs on the way to work and back, and nothing from snack and soda machines. Retiring helped in that respect, but when I am out and about, I am not stopping at McDonalds. No more drinking two 2-litres of Pepsi every day, either. Tap Water is a lot cheaper than soda pop.
We also have the luxury of a big back yard (rare in the Chicago area). He has a Mediterranean garden back there and grows zuchinni, tomatoes, sunchokes, basil, squash, and green Beans. That helps keep costs down during the summer.

I don't know you, so I am not implying anything about YOU, but this is what I found for ME. It could also be true for you.
I do not lose I am not honest with myself. I need to eat around 900 calories daily to lose weight I have to average those calories over days and weeks A few extra calories over a weekend (in the form of alcohol or anything) will absolutely kick my average calorie consumption up over the 900. I can't graze. It's very hard to track calories when you stick a bite of this or that in your mouth. I gain when I do that, even if I try to track it all. It's all easier said than done, but so worth it!

First, I would say don't beat yourself up. You really do have it in you to do this.... We all do!
Second, stop drinking alcohol on the weekends. Especially 4-5 drinks. That is a lot of empty calories and heavy guilt.
I completely understand the stressful job. I started carrying a cooler with me that has P3 Protein Snacks, Greek yogurt, Water and Protein shakes. If I get stuck or have forgotten to eat I have something healthy to fall back on.
No matter the job, everyone is allowed breaks and meals. Is there a gym nearby you can join? Can you walk some steps or walk around the parking lot?
Definitely log your food. I am absolutely overwhelmed with learning to eat a balanced diet, but like I said above, we can do this! We have it in us.
The only other suggestion I can make is start over with a week of Clear liquids. Life is all about do-overs. I read somewhere once that we can't let failure define us, let getting back up and starting again and again and again and not giving up define us.

I typically stay away from most carbs, however, I do eat a wrap sometimes with a thin whole wheat tortilla. I think that if you are making it at home it would be much better for you so you know what you are cooking with. Don't try it for the first time at the restaurant. But, the reason I love this surgery is because of what @@Elode said above that you can eat what you want, you just choose to eat better now (atleast that's how it is working for me).

@@brandeett Oh course you can. I limit my carbs, some don't and do just fine. I usually go 30 or less a day, mainly because of all the Protein. I ate a thin crunchy taco last week. It's one of my families favorites. I can eat anything I was able to eat pre surgery, the only difference for me is the amount and I do track all my food. Because of the fact I can eat whatever I want I have to pay close attention and keep everything in check. Everyone's different though.

I am only 3 weeks in but i consider the surgery as a tool to be healthier. I could make bad choices, but if i make good choices most of the time and have small portions. I will eat pizza again, but 1 small piece instead of 3. I will enjoy a drink once in a while. If being perfect for 1 year meant i would be at a healthy weight for the rest of my life i would do it. But instead this is for the rest of my life and i need to find the balance of health and sanity.

Roxie, I apologize for my curt response earlier on.
I've since read your dozen or so prior posts and now appreciate that you've not had the most supportive pre-op situation, that you're only a week post-op, and that you've had some (understandable) high anxiety about your own WLS.
But if you start out here by telling people that your way / your values is the only way to proceed WLS you will not find wide support here either. A lot of people here do drink alcohol post-op. But most of them do so rarely and not early on. As you'll also learn, surgeons' instructions are considerably divergent, one from the other, about so many things.
BTW, if you found this very mild alcohol thread tough going, go read the ones on marijuana.
People here have a wide range of values and lifestyle preferences. Your way will be your way. Theirs will be theirs.
Please consider this just some kind advice about how to find a home here. And I wish you the VERY best results possible from your own WLS.

Well @@Roxie Malone, looking at your stats, it looks like you have not had WLS yet. That's what I was referring to when I said your "walk". I apologize if I'm not correct about that.
If you haven't had WLS yet, I hope when you do you realize that it's not going to be as black and white as you would like to think it is. Because if you do, you're in for a long, disappointing journey.
    Good luck to you.
