I don't need to say all of the stuff you already know (carbonation is bad/dangerous to a healing wound, the chips could make you dump, blah blah blah) because you already know that. I will say that you need to cut yourself a little slack here. You obviously are aware that you made a less than good decision while trying to cope with a new and drastically different lifestyle. So you had a few sips of a coke, and three chips. Realistically speaking, though these foods are horrible in general, in this tiny amount, it isn't the end of the world. If a bite would lead to cravings and so on, that's another story. But in this case, you took a bite, you had a sip, and you moved on, yes? You're aware that you are not happy with this action. You're aware that you've coped in an unhealthy way, and want to be better. You're already making up for making a mistake.
In the end, we're only human. Yes, we have to do our damnedest after surgery to stay on track and lose weight and be healthy and so on, but slip ups WILL happen, and just knowing that you don't want to do it again and you're going to try your best not to do it again is enough. Forgive yourself for making a mistake and move forward with the intention of being better and doing better, and you'll get there with a healthier attitude than you may have ever dreamed of, with the healthy body to match. Hang in there! This huge change affects every aspect of life, and it's so enormous that most people can't even understand the enormity of it until they experience it, and then it takes years to adjust to your whole new life. You'll get there, and you'll be okay. This is not the end of the world or the end of all of your hard work and achievement. Keep going. <3 My inbox is always open if you ever want someone to talk to!

coletha reacted to Cervidae in Is something wrong with me?
While this is all happening much sooner than you may have been prepared for, this is completely normal! No one has the same kind of stringent restriction they had in the very beginning forever. Now it's up to you to continue letting your tool work for you. If you're the kind of person who can't have "a bite of this, a bite of that" without having terrible cravings come back, then just don't even have a little. Keep in mind that a bite of something may not have been enough to cause pain/dumping/vomiting, but it's entirely possible, even probably, that 2 bites of that same food will. I was so worried about these things in the beginning, because I had the same problem. Nothing really caused any issues, with a few exceptions like raw carrots and ground beef. Now, I'm almost a year out and I find that a bite here and there of something not great for me is actually the healthiest way to maintain for me. I generally eat perfectly healthy, with a bite of something I'm craving, and that's all. Then the craving is gone, and I move on. The amount of sugar/carbs/etc in whatever one bite of what I'm eating is negligible. If I were to try to be like I was the first six months post op, I would DEFINITELY fall off the wagon. Sometimes you have to satisfy the craving in a healthy way rather than ignore it until it has far more control over you than it should. Hope this helps in some way!

Good suggestion. We will most definitely be adding this feature over the next 2-3 months.

I really have been able to tell a lot of changes in my body even though when I look in the mirror I don't exactly see them!
I have had a relatively easy time with everything. I realize when I do feel crappy and dump it is my fault, but even then it isn't terrible. I know I am lucky, but I do think a lot of your post op experience has to do with your mentality in general.
I am so glad I had this procedure done, before having RNY on 4/4/16, I would work out for 1-1.5 hours a day 4x/week. I lost a little but it was incredibly slow and if I worked out any less or took a vacation for eating healthy I would gain back in a weekend what took me a month to lose.
I just found out today that a good childhood friend of mine died of a heart attack last night. Just weeks before her 31st birthday. She was obese her whole life, and since her passing it makes me even more thankful I made the decision I did.

    Hello,
Congrats you did it!!! I am one month and one day from my surgery. I didn't,t have much pain but just drowsy after surgery as expected. I am now walking a little at least 4 days a week minimum about a mile. Just reminder Protein is essential gives you energy. I have learned that your brain has to catch up with your new pouch, it will tell you that you are hungry when your not. But your brain will catch up

So I'm 31 years old and from Hamilton Ontario. My weight was 264 lbs prior to pre op diet. I lost 8-9 lbs during the Optifast Diet that I was on for just over 10 days. I have always been a bigger girl and struggled to lose weight. The process through the bariatric clinic was just over a year after completing all the appointment. I had surgery on 05/03/2016 making it 2 days post op. I had gastric bypass and hiatus hernia repair. Everything went well and there were no complications. I am going home today 05/05/2016! The first night after surgery was quite painful, and slightly scary. as I had needed to use the washroom and almost fainted. Thankfully the nurse was there to help me. The second day was much better and was able to tolerate small sips of Decaf coffee. Gas pain is the only complaint I can really make but walking the halls really helps. Sipping Water also helps. I wish good luck to everyone

I'm only 3 weeks post op at this point, but I can tell you I wish I would have listened to my doctors years ago and had this done. I also am diabetic, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, high triglycerides, beginning of diabetic retinopathy and beginning of kidney disease. My diabetes is under excellent control right now, I'm losing weight which should help with the cholesterol, trigs, apnea and help avoid further damage to the kidneys and eyes. I always thought it was so extreme to have weight loss surgery. Now that I've done it, I shake my head in disbelief. It was not bad at all! I'm down almost 30 pounds since pre-op diet, and my eating and hunger are very controlled.
If I could go back about 5 years, I'd do this again in a heartbeat knowing what I know now.

This article describes my experience with RNY gastric bypass surgery. I am 3 years post-op. http://www.breadandbutterscience.com/Surgery.pdf
I basically told everyone about my surgery, even strangers on the street. In general their reaction fell into two categories. They were either curious or supportive. I think the reason why many do not tell others is because of their past battles with dieting. They tell others about their diet and receive praise. They lose weight and receive praise. They eventually stop dieting, gain the weight back and fell GUILT.
I found RNY surgery to be different. After surgery I completely lost my appetite. I did not find it difficult to lose weight when hunger is not constantly, continually gnawing at my bones.
Is there anything I would do differently? No, I am happy with my decision.

You have to do what you have to do. Document all your calls and the information exchanged. When you go in documentation is necessary so video is a great idea. Sounds like some past behavior repeating regarding trying to control you. If spousal support is possible then go for it, divorce is a negotiation put yourself it the best place and go from there. He isn't feeling sorry for you so you can't let old emotions filter in.
Rip off the band aid and get a lawyer. You don't have to be nasty to get respect just expect it.

From someone who has had both the sleeve and gastric bypass I highly recommend going with the bypass. Many do well with the sleeve however I found that it was too easy to gain and did not provide me with enough restriction. I am much more successful with the bypass maintaining since January.

I can highly recommend the Multivitamin patch from PatchMD, and the berry citrus chewable Calcium from opurity. It took me a long time to find alternatives, as I have a VERY sensitive gag reflex and a whiny stomach that complains about most things I put into it in terms of meds and supplements. Hope this helps! Keep on keepin' on. It all gets easier.

My 7th day today.. I woke up 22 pounds down.
    Things I've decided today:
    1) to get out of this house
    2) to finally hold conversation with people
    3) I am completely a failure with the Proteins Vitamins provided by my surgeons office
    4) I'm near dehydration
    5) I've drank drank drank and drank some more
    6) I decided to get some Gummy viatamins, Calcium, and B12. It may not be as much as in theres, but if I can't take there's without the fear of barfing... some is better than none, right?

I'm 8 months out, 140 pounds down, and I have recently started being able to have a bite of something here and there. Even better yet, after one or two bites, I am fully satisfied. I firmly believe in taking at least a bite of birthday cake for good luck, and I did so for my boyfriend's birthday just a few days ago. If you do everything right while you heal, and learn to control your cravings, dumping isn't any kind of issue. In fact, I don't think I have ever dumped. I was very careful. And I have no regrets.

I had surgery 2 days ago. I was never in any pain, in was just uncomfortable. My stomach was very sore and I needed help sitting up. I never had nausea. Today, I'm still a little sore with some gas but I'm fine. I've done some light housework today and I am eating and drinking just fine. My advice would be to walk as much as you can. It really does make you feel better
