Try some broth or hot tea. Often Hot Drinks are easier on the stomach than cold.
If you continue to throw up, call your surgeon.

Hi everyone. So my Bypass is scheduled for Wed 7/20 and I’m trying to get everything prepared. Which Protein Shakes is everyone drinking after surgery? I ordered the sample packet of powders? utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury, but I have to wait until surgery to order more. I know my taste buds will change and I cannot afford to waste any loot on something I may not like.
Any advice or suggestions for the hospital visit? I also wanted to know what did people buy for their first week post-op?

My surgery was May 10 and I have lost 30 pounds in the 2 months since then. I use an app called 'get~2~goal' by geisinger health and it shows trends for weight loss after Bariatric surgery. According to their graphs I am better than the average in my weight lost since surgery. I assume they get that data from their patients. (I did not use them for my surgery but like the app for tracking my weight).
And your loss is pretty close to mine.
You should feel really good about how much you have lost so far. Keep up the good work!

I averaged 10 pounds lost / month my first 4 months post-op. Then things slowed down.
Yet here I am 2 years post-op, 100 pounds lighter than when I started and maintaining easily at 135 pounds.
    Tell your surgeon that story.

We have similar stats, except I was sleeved 5/23. I have only lost 16 pounds! Just do what you know you're supposed to do and hang in there. I think it's harder to lose when we stress too much about it. As long as we don't give up, we will make it!

I think that's an unrealistic goal from your surgeon. You don't have as much to lose as many of us and to expect 50lbs in 3 months is alot. Maybe you need to eat more now that you're working out? I'm pre-op but know that if you're not getting enough - your body will go into starvation mode and hold on to your fat. Stay strong and positive!

At my one month appointment I had lost 25 lbs. My surgeon gave me a goal to lose an additional 25 lbs by my 3 month appointment on 7/29.
As the date approaches I am feeling very frustrated and discouraged. I have lost a whopping 8 lbs so far!! 8 POUNDS!! Are you serious!!??
I am getting in my Protein and liquids and started working out with a trainer.
Why am I losing so little and so slow?? I have experienced several stalls along the way which I know is common.
Please. Any suggestions would be appreciated to help me reach my goal.

I am not far away from you. I had my surgery done at Fairview Southdale. I have been going to support groups at Fairview Southdale and Fairview Riverside. (I work just down the street from Riverside at the U West Bank. )
Southdale's support group meeting is the third Wednesday of each month from 6-7:30. For July (next Wednesday) they/we are having an indoor picnic with post surgery appropriate potluck items. Items will likely be from a variety of phases of post surgery diets. There are some really good cooks in the bunch with LOTS of great recipes to share. Knowing the group, people will actually have copies of the recipes next to their dishes. I will be there so if you want to make sure you know someone, pm me and we can make plans!
The University of Minnesota/Fairview Riverside group meets on the first Wednesday of each month from 6:30-8. They are a great group also and have been welcoming to non-university patients, i.e. me and many others. THey have many long time post-op members who have great insights into maintenance. I will not be at the August meeting, but Barb, the leader, is great and super friendly, and Betty, one of the long-timers, is especially welcoming. Just mention that I recommended it for you and you will be all set.
I am pretty sure that I heard from a U of M support group member that she goes to a group at Unity. Another one mentioned I believe Regions. I believe having a support group is now a part of being a center of excellence so I imagine there are a few around. I can't vouch for what any of them are like, but I love and value my groups. My thought process on the support groups is that when I did weight watchers, etc. we met every week. My two Wednesdays a month are nothing timewise and I get some much support from them both at the meetings and out.
Also, I am no expert, but I am more than willing to chat with anyone about their journey. I am still in my honeymoon, but I have learned a lot already. Anything I can do to help anyone else on this journey, I am more than happy to do.

Hey guys. I have a stupid question. Am I supposed to feel this good?
I had surgery at around noon on Thursday 7/7. By 7:30 pm that night I was feeling great- I walked over a hundred laps around my unit and went home at 4 pm on Friday.
Since then- no real issues. I've read about so many on this board. No Constipation, no major fatigue, liquids are going down very easy, I don't even really have to sip and I'm getting over 60 grams of Protein (shakes) and at least 80 oz of fluids (mostly water) everyday. My urine is running clear and I'm not constipated. I'm sleeping better than I did pre-op and stopped taking pain meds yesterday.
Yesterday and today I was out and about, shopping and helping out an elderly relative. I've been going for long walks in my neighborhood. This morning I competently handled some international business matters before 9 am. Tomorrow I'm planning to swing by my office to handle some business, walk around the city, get a facial and babysit my nephew.
So this post is not a humblebrag. I'm seriously wondering- is something going to come smack in the face in a few days? Did anyone else feel totally fine after surgery? Is my perspective skewed from reading too many posts about complications?

I see people a year out that only hold a few bites.. It makes me concerned about my intake.. I'm not overly full either. Suggestions?

I'm just going to say it like it is! ......so take it or leave it.
    I don't represent this site
The members on this site helped me to be successful. I am just another bariatric patient. Most people ( newbies and vets) have been giving great support. Anyone who has been here for a while can see a definite decline on BariatricPal. Can we get this community back together? I would like to think so....
What does support mean to you? Is your participation in the negative posts working for you or anyone else?
Support: to give help or assistance
Enabling. Promoting self destructive behavior by denying, minimizing, or ignoring its harmful personal effects or outcomes.
Confrontation. To bring together for examination or comparison.( I'm not talking personal attacks) urging him or her to commit to their program. Asserting your compassionate perception that the person is slipping into behaviors that will have harmful effects or outcomes.
Without confronting personal self destructive behavior, you greatly reduce odds for long-term success.

alicia54 reacted to LisaMergs in Do we have to follow up with our Doctors FOREVER? :(
    Hi- couple of things:
Once a bariatric patient, always a bariatric patient. Same if you had a heart attack- you always always follow up with your cardiologist. After a year, most surgeons, including mine, see you yearly. They do so for many reasons, the biggest being to make sure you are healthy, no issues with your new stomach, and also- if you start slipping, they want to hear from you to get you back on track.
I can't quite understand why it would be an issue for any of us to see the person who helped us transform once a year? Small "price" to pay for health.
There are plenty of people who end up with some kind of deficiencies because they aren't following their plans. Plenty who "slip" and are lost. I'd imagine if I moved I would ask my surgeon for a referral to someone he knew so I could continue my follow ups. Many GP docs aren't tuned in to bariatric needs.
    Just my two cents worth.
FYI- post op- saw my doc
1 week, 3 weeks, 6 weeks, 3 months and then I will see him at 6 months and 1 year post op. Yearly thereafter. Those are his requirements.

alicia54 reacted to Djmohr in Well, I am doing it! 1st stop, Brachioplasty
I cannot contain my smile. I had a consultation yesterday with my 1st choice plastic surgeon here in Delafield Wi.
She had great reviews, is board certified, has a great team including her assistant and most of all she is also a woman and totally gets it. Even my husband who is very over protective, loves her.
Every plastic surgeon I called would set up 1 appointment for each possible surgery charging a fee each time. I thought that was crazy given I wanted larger game plan for myself but I set up appointments anyway. I found her last and called her assistant who promptly told me that when they are speaking with someone who has multiple concerns they will book more time and provide all the time we needed. If you mentioned real self where I found her, they would do the consultation for free. She just transferred from another clinic so she has some open time much sooner.
Anyway, she was awesome and I loved the way she was thinking about the work I need done. I never felt uncomfortable with her for even a second and let me tell you when you are standing there in their tiny little panties in all your loose skin is hanging everywhere for everyone to see......making one feel comfortable is important.
My number 1 priority is having a brachioplasty because I have huge arms (yes, I will post some pictures soon). Then I wanted to discuss an Abdominalplasty and a breast lift with augmentation. She suggested that she would split them up exactly that way given my priorities and my current health issues (my bad back). She also wants my orthopedic surgeon to approve a small implant which we both agreed was reasonable but I do not want more back pain. Today, the girls are hanging low and pulling on my neck and back so even just putting them back where they belong would help but I really want some of my volume back, I chose a 300 gel implant.
My appointment started at 9:30am and we left there at 1:00pm. Both my hubby and I had a million questions, then they did a photo shoot (my least favorite part), then her assistant went through the option and pricing. My brachioplasty will cost 5950.00.
Then we went to scheduling and I knew I would get in quickly because most people have this type of work done in the fall and winter. So we asked for the soonest available appointment and they set me up for July 28th. On the way home her assistant called me back, they had a cancellation for this coming Thursday morning!!!! So this Thursday morning I will have what we have lovingly called my Grandma arms removed. My granddaughter will be destroyed, she always loved playing with my squishies as she called them.
    I will be thrilled!!!!
Down the road, about 3 or 4 month from now, I will have the other portion done.
I know several of you have asked about whether or not I would need to wait until I was a year at a stable weight which was one of my questions to her. She typically would like to see 6 months at a stable weight so we pulled up my tracker and I am nearly 5 months within the same 3 lbs, she was comfortable given I am just having the brachioplasty now. We will then wait for the next surgery at least 3 months.
They would like you to not gain or lose anymore than 10lbs. If you have surgery too soon or lose too much, you could be looking at revisions. I am not planning on revising anything. One and done so I need to work hard to maintain.
This gives me another reason to keep driving forward.
That's my update...... Am I nuts or what?
I am excited mostly, the only nerves that I have currently is because I have such terrible back pain but that is not going away any time soon. We both thought maybe getting some of this weight off my shoulders would help too.

Do you ever have that moment of clarity where you step back and wonder "what the hell did I just do?". I had that moment and came to rant about it.
I had sleeve surgery on June 1st and since then:
    - My clothes don't fit anymore. I went to wear my favorite shirt yesterday and it was TOO BIG!!!
    - People keep telling me I'm looking great. The nerve of some people!
    - I don't snore anymore. How am I supposed to annoy my wife while I'm asleep??
    - I'm wearing size 38 pants now. I wore those in HIGH SCHOOL! I'm basically a high schooler now!!!
    - My gentleman's sausage looks twice as big now. That's like twice as much to disappoint my wife!
    - I don't sweat anymore. It is the middle of summer and I don't sweat even when I work out.
    - My feet never hurt anymore. I used to have terrible foot pain and it is GONE!
I think I need to go sit in a quite place for a while and relax now.

Okay, 1. My doctor allows my 40-60 carbs a day because I train as a wrestler. Your guidelines are yours.
    2. A "boatload" of food for you, you cannot eat that much. But for me, I just did. I do not feel like I'm uncomfortably full, I feel normal. Don't apply your situation to everyone else when giving advice.
    3. Your style of "advice" is not advice, it is condescending. People come here for advice, not to be parented and looked down upon. We are all adults.
    4. I track everything. Calories in, calories out. Macros, and micros. My question was simple in nature. If you thought it was too much, too quick, all you needed to do was leave your last bit. You could hold off on the rest.

But hey... at least its going down... not up... i think i need to escalate my exercise now.
I don't mind the slower weightloss in a way... at least this way my skin has some time to recover... hence less loose skin
