Yes it's normal. When I was on stage one liquids i was starving. When I got to stage two and could have premade Protein Shakes and thicker Soups it made a huge difference. I was still hungry in stage two but not as bad. Once you can do pureed and soft foods you'll see a huge difference and will really feel the restriction and will feel full when you eat. If you can get through these first couple of weeks you'll be fine. I promise.

To follow up, I did get referred to a chiropractor and have an appointment next week. Will see what kind of improvement, if any, can come from it. Otherwise, PCP recommended a pain management specialist if that doesn't work.

Yes!! I'm 4 months out and have been dealing with excruciating lower back pain since I was about 3 or 4 weeks out. All of my doctors have said it's because of the huge weightloss ( I've lost about 100lbs). Unfortunately it's caused my bones and joints to get out of whack. I have been going to the chiropractor two and three times a week for months. He's just now getting everything readjusted so that the pain has decreased majorly. It's been very frustrating though. I always thought losing weight would help my back problems and so far it has only made them worse. It's just been the past couple of weeks that I'm starting to feel better with much less pain. I'm hoping I've finally turned a corner and am on my way to not having to deal with this issue.

I understand. It took over a year for me to get my insurance requirements completed so that I could submit it for approval. It felt like forever. Now I'm exactly for months post surgery and so glad I stuck it out that year. One year in exchange for the rest of my life was all worth it! You can do it! It will all be worth it in the end!!

Ok peeps so I'm 5 days fresh out of surgery.......well my doc gave me the thumbs up to add fish and pureed veggies only as dinner per day the earlier part of the day I'm on liquids as usual......eating the fish and veggie puree did the trick immediately!! I couldn't even eat 3 baby forks of fish and veggies but it solved the hunger. thank god!

Just a quick update. Aetna changed their policy as of November 2014 (No longer says you need a two year documented history) So I started my 6 month supervised WL with Doctor in April 2015 and will be done October 5th. The surgeons office will be submitting that first week of October (Woooohoooo I've spent these 6 months collecting copies of all my medical records and labs. I have a notebook full to include when everything is sent to Aetna. I have a copy of their policy and have been following it to the letter. (I even had to inform the surgeons office of some changes in the policy they didn't know about) So keep your fingers crossed that I get approved and with luck will have my surgery before the end of 2015!! Oh and I'm still smiling

I was in the same situation. Weeks three and four after my surgery were the worst. They would all be pigging out on dinner and I just wanted to scream at the top of my lungs!! It gets better. I'm exactly three months out today and they can sit and eat a huge meal in front of me and it doesn't bother me at all. I just thank God I can't eat like that anymore and think of how much better I feel now that I've lost weight.

I can relate. I went through major mood swings the first month after surgery. I can tell you it gets better. I'm six weeks out now and feeling 100% better.

Hi - I haven't had any mood swings yet, (though I did get a little snappy at people when I ate a teeny bite of something I shouldn't have and was doubled over in pain) but my nutritionist warned me to expect them for the first six weeks as did the psych consult. They were really clear that depression and mood swings were absolutely normal and to be expected and wanted to make sure I'd reach out if I was having trouble with them. My nut said that the mood swings were in part because there's a lot of estrogen stored in fat and rapid weight loss can cause PMS like symptoms. I have to admit it was the first thing they said that really gave me pause. It was not a description I took lightly. My first week of weight loss has felt a little slow, so that's been discouraging based on the pain etc but I'm looking forward (???) to those mood swings that mean the weight loss is going well.
    - Oh and about the family eating thing? I'm soooo with you! I've been staying with my parents while I recover and while I'm choking down Protein drinks that taste AWFUL (am I the only one who thinks powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury has an aftertaste that tastes like bile???) my mother is making her usual unbelievably excellent french and Mediterranean cooking. I don't think I ever really appreciated what an amazing cook she is before.

i had the same issue a week or so after surgery. once I was able to get in my 64oz of Water daily it went away. so I'm thinking it was related to the lack of hydration.
