When I first started this journey I was extremely excited. Its a fresh start and I was ready to jump start the process and keep the ball moving. Now that I'm a few months in I feel like its taking forever. Like its not gonna happen and when the time does come ill be denied. I feel like giving up but I know I truly need this. I've been in a funk lately and I cant seem to get out of the rut ????

I hear ya! I was super lucky in getting through the entire process in just 1 month.

But it did seem like it took forever.

Hang in there, it is truly worth every bit of effort!

My one wish is that I could let everyone see what it's like on the other side of WLS

and know what it feels like to be free of the control food had over me.

You can do it!

Whatever is in your way, you're stronger than it, you're tougher than it, and you're better than it. You're going to beat it.

You can't have a physical transformation without a mental transformation…

the same habits that drive success work for making all areas of your life better…

time management, discipline, goal setting, social support, etc.

It's never a bad time to start a physical transformation, to set goals, or to hang around positive people. Never, EVER give up on what is important to you.

I can imagine how you feel, I had to wait three weeks for the information session, and now have to wait another month for my initial consultation and I feel like it is taking forever!! I still have to see the counselor, nutritionist, have an EGD done and get approved by the insurance company. Keep your head up, get in a support group and surround yourself with people who support you, find something that makes you excited about it again!! You have come so far, don't give up now!!

I'm six weeks out from surgery and I can vividly remember feeling everything you've described. It's perfectly normal, I promise.

You'll look back on this one day and feel like all the waiting was nothing but a fuzzy half remembered dream.

In order to get back into it, you need a plan to focus on. A good place to start is to do everything required by your surgeon/Dr. It shows your earnestness in following the program, and impresses the insurance company, as well as the doctors. They will push harder for it if they see you doing your part and that you are serious about it. If they haven't give you a program to follow yet, ask for one, and get some books on the subject so you can start on your own.

It is easy to get discouraged, but this is a long and very difficult road to travel - just ask those of us who have been travelling it for awhile now. It is not easy, and it is a life-long challenge. But totally worth it, IF you are willing to see it through. We all go into this because we had issues with weight, those issues don't necessarily go away with the surgery. It is extremely important to remember that. There are those who will regain the weight, mostly because they haven't committed to the program 100 percent. If you don't think you can, don't do it. You will still have a tiny stomach after the surgery, but the same issues you had prior to it. You MUST be willing to follow your program.

This is why sometimes these things take so long to begin...your commitment starts with these smaller challenges, then those challenges become larger and more difficult to handle. It's one of the reasons for the psych. evaluation. To see if you can handle it. Maybe this is not for you - that's ok. It is not for everyone. It's best to research this as much as you possibly can before you commit. Read all the posts on this site to see the challenges we face daily, and forever. See if it is truly for you. I understand. It took over a year for me to get my insurance requirements completed so that I could submit it for approval. It felt like forever. Now I'm exactly for months post surgery and so glad I stuck it out that year. One year in exchange for the rest of my life was all worth it! You can do it! It will all be worth it in the end!!

I have not lost much weight at all. I had my band removed in December 2013 and sleeved March 2014 and only lost 34 pds and gained back 13 pds. Now I've learned I'm battling hypoglycemia. I worked out hard over the past few years watched my fat intake and now I'm told I'm not getting enough fat in and to stop working out. Been battling dehydration for over year. I get headaches and acid feeling from my stomach which triggers headaches. I really regret this surgery. All of them

I am so sorry for your situation. Have you had a chance to see a different doctor, for a different opinion/plan? It might really help, and give you a direction to get you on track. In fact, if it were me, I would seek out several opinions, to give myself a fighting chance at this. Especially if you have insurance to cover it. Maybe research the physicians in your area ahead of time, to see which are most highly recommended, and have the most experience. I sure wish you well, you deserve it after all of this. Thank you CanyonBaby...these Dr's act like they don't care that's what's the most frustrating...I need all the blessings I can get. I've been to two Dr's and now waiting for the nutrionist/dietician to call me back

I too am finding that I'm struggling with loss of motivation and excitement. I started my journey in Feb of this year and finally completed my 6 mos NUT appts at the beginning of Aug. I then had my pre-op appt and was given the surgery date of Nov 17.....I couldn't believe I had to wait 3 more mos before I was sleeved. I had a mini hissy fit in the Dr's office to no avail and still call them every week to see if they have had any cancellations. Nothing at this point. It just seems like such poor planning for them to wait until every last thing is done before even pencilling in a surgery date for me on their calendar. I feel angry and discouraged about the poor planning and the long wait. Also, the surgery is scheduled for the week before Thanksgiving, which is my most favorite holiday of all. Not gonna happen this year. I've already told the kids to forget about it this year and am sad that we won't be getting together.

@@cbrr i think its a mistake to not let your kids do thanksgiving let them go visit grandma or an aunt or uncle while you heal it will take the pressure off you and they will enjoy it. also your gonna be a week out still learning how to get in water and protein maybe letting the kids visit family will help you heal better. im having my surgery around march so hopefully i will be healed by the time my yearly family vacation happens.

Skepchick...Thanks for thinking of my kids. My children are grown with kids of their own so they will probably go to the in-laws this year.

We usually gather at my house for part of the main meal. I will miss that. My oldest son said we could still do that and I could just sit and sip turkey broth while they do the whole big thanksgiving meal. I'm thinking NOT! I don't know what to expect 1 week out from surgery but I don't think I'll want the stress of getting ready for a big family gathering. Anyone else up and going after 1 week post-op?

@glitterpockets I understand the frustration of having to jump through all the hoops and lose the motivation. Like someone else said, it will come around soon and looking back at this time will be a distant memory. Keep reading this board, research good recipes for all stages, start having a Protein drink for Breakfast now, do all that you can to prepare for the eventual surgery and positive life change. I know many people that stopped drinking cokes months ahead of time, there are things that you can do to keep this an active process and keep the motivation up!

@cbrr It is wise to not try to do the main meal at your house. At one week out you will definitely not want to prepare the main meal... you wouldn't even be able to taste stuff to correct seasonings! You probably don't want to sit and sip broth and watch everyone eat the meal either. Stay home and heal, and remember that by Christmas you will be fully healed and up to the celebration, and probably 20-30lbs (or more) lighter and healthier feeling!
