TRexMom6525 got a reaction from The Candidate in 6 month checkup today!
These appointments are very exciting for me. After a month long stall the scale appears to be moving again.
80lbs and 20 from my goal
Hopefully the " honeymoon" stage won't end too soon. Time to re- focus for holiday temptations and make sure old habits don't creep back in. Probably time to hit the Gym even harder as well .

The same thing happened to me and it will pass.... It's like the scale knows and there's a speed bump on 200 - in fact, I've found that every 10lb interval is a hurdle with that imaginary bump at 90, 80 , 70 and so on . Stick to the plan and you'll get there! Good luck and enjoy ONEderland

I have always been told not to focus on calories period, especially in the beginning. The focus must be on Protein and fluids.
1 gram of Protein for every inch you are tall minimum. If you focus on protein, the calories take care of themselves.
Now, I have always tracked my calories and at about 7 months post op I quickly learned I had to increase my input a bit as I had a long stall. I was told to add a protein heavy snack which in fact did add calories. It broke my stall.

The scale stopped at 201 lbs for about 8 days as if to purposely tease me
Then 2 weeks ago I fell below 200 into the ONES - I almost cried and I wanted to email a picture of he scale to my surgeon and thank him.
Moving steadily this two weeks and I am now in the 180's
Started Bootcamp last week and that has taken the workout up about ten notches burning 7-8 hundred calories in an hour.
Is it weird that I just want to hug my surgeon and tell him " thank you! Thank you for giving me a fighting chance to get my life back "
    Feeling blessed and very happy

Love it! Thanks so much for sharing -great reminder and sobering analysis - while I don't eat Pasta rice or thick breads, I do sneak in low carb wraps every once in a while and even thought I could eat these flatbread fold ups once in a while ..... Re thinking that now because I'm so happy with my weight loss ( 65lbs in 4 months) and I NEVER want to go back!
So thanks for posting this ????

TRexMom6525 reacted to dancingqueene in What's your healthy alternative to bread?
Sprouted bread is great but also any grains made from Almond flour as well. Or grain free recipes and making your own. Atkins also has recipes and a break collection, but I've not tried. Also Paleo bread is a nice alternative.Carb Zero is another bread and I also make one made w/ egg white and cream of tartar if you google it!
I found a great 20g Protein Pasta that has individual servings in the box and it is very reasonable. I think I paid 6$ for 6 servings. Ciao is the brand as well as a few others.

The reason that people say that bariatric surgery is the "easy" way out is because they have no understanding of what is involved. Many people think that bariatric surgery is a magic zapper: you get surgery, and poof, now you're thin! As we all know, there is nothing further from the truth. Even many prospective WLS patients think this early on, and become surprised when they realize differently.
People don't realize that WLS is a tool, albeit a powerful one. We have other tools: high Protein low carb ways of eating, chewing food thoroughly and eating slowly until we feel satisfied, avoiding grazing, staying hydrated, etc. To say that WLS is a powerful tool for losing weight is correct, but saying it is the easy way out is totally missing the point.

I think it's funny that everyone assumes easy way is a negative. We are so programmed to think that if we don't suffer to lose weight then the weight loss isn't valid. If you ignore weight loss and look at this another way, you quickly see how stupid it is to think easy = bad.
Imagine a desired outcome called outcome A. There are two ways to achieve outcome A: one way is slow, painful, and inefficient. The other is faster and easier and more efficient. Now what dummy would proudly choose to achieve outcome A via the first method?
After surgery you still have to watch what you eat, think about all your choices, address emotional issues and exercise. But the restriction makes it easier and lessens that feeling of sacrifice that comes with dieting when your hunger is out of control. Yes it makes it easier. And easier is smart. I'm glad I made the smart choice.

TRexMom6525 got a reaction from GBLady41 in No Complications
I had bypass surgery on May 4. Knock on wood but I have had 0 complications. I am 6 weeks Post Op today and feel just about back to normal but in most ways BETTER !
I sleep better, my body feels better - down 30lbs- I had out of control Blood Pressure which was my main reason for the surgery, aside from weight loss, I was able to stop my medication 3 weeks post op having had perfect BP
I credit the lack of complications to a wonderful surgical team but everyone's body is different.
Once I ate too fast and had some bad pain in my sternum for a few minutes but that's about it and I learned from it.
Im excited that today all activities are lifted and I can start working out full body for better weight loss results - I hope.
    Good luck to you

You actually cannot stretch your pouch however as the swelling goes down you have more room in there.
also down the road, there is something that happens in which your brain allows you to eat more as well, so it is important that what you are eating is healthy and that you keep Portion Control in mind.
I am 10.5 months post op and I can eat about a cup of food total. When you think of a cup of food, you think of it all chewed up. So if you are eating a salad you can actually eat more than will fit in a cup before chewing.
As long as you are not eating longer than 30 minutes and sticking to your plan you should be just fine. There has been several studies done on whether the pouch stretches. The consensus is that it does not but we tend to get more comfortable eating more than we should. Listen to your stomach and stop when you are full, don't eat beyond that.
Also watch for slider foods that make you hungry again too soon. This becomes important when the hunger hormones come back for us RNY folks. Slider foods for me are things like Soup, yogurt, pudding.....

I have been going to physical therapy for three months to help with the joint aches and pains that I have started having since I lost a bunch of weight so fast. I go to a center with a hot pool, and the work is really helping me. I've always had arthritis, but never had pain until I lost weight. I don't know the answers to all this, but I do know the therapy is helping and I am getting better.

My orthopedic surgeon told me the same thing. I had hoped all this weight loss would take pressure off my spine and relieve pain in some of my joints. My ankles and knees are definately better but because I am more active and my posture has changed the joints in my spine are definately impacted.

My surgeon said the reason is that our posture changes as we lose weight, making us stand more upright. So our muscles have to work in a different way to accommodate the better posture.

I tried on a pair of pants that were bought for me 2 years ago. I couldn't even get the button close. They fit now and get looser each week.
More importantly, after 3 weeks Post Op, my " dangerously out of control blood pressure" is now under control and got to discontinue BP meds. doc say it's perfect now. That was my primary concern and motivation to do the surgery - BP medicine never worked and now just one Month Post Op - no more BP medicine
No more Xanex for anxiety and I may be jumping the gun but I would wager that the sleep apnea will be cured soon too.

The scale can drive you absolutely crazy if you let it. I put mine in my linen closet and am only allowed to take it out Sunday mornings, this week I lost 1 whole pound, so the damn scale will stay in the closet for 2 weeks. I look at it as this is my journey, not the damn scales and I Will not let it discourage me any more than I Would allow a person to discourage me, so if it has nothing positive to report, then I Will punish it to the closet until I feel it will give me positive results.
