  1. 8 golden rules say I can drink while eating. I forgot about that!

You are not supposed to drink while eating. The fluid will flush the food through your sleeve leading you to eat more...sometimes it can cause nausea.

      lapband78

Yeah that's what I had read but Dr. Paul O'Brien says that new study shows that the food flushes fast enough by it self. But I'm still careful. I will only drink with food if it's to spicey/hot

  2. Avoiding eating with others because I need to eat slowly

Agreed...put your fork or spoon down and sit back to chew.

I also use more of my time in between forkfuls to have conversations with others. I have actually enjoyed more mealtime with others because I eat slowly and eat so little.

I tried speaking with other people while eating but I thought I looked silly because everyone else were shoveling their food into their mouth haha. But I know, I can't eat alone all the time. I have to get used to this.

At lunch today I always put down my fork and went on 9gag on my phone while chewing that helped haha :)

How do you deal with cramps?

NSAIDS can even cause ulcers and are bad for the liver in "normal" stomach. I had a lap band so yeah maybe the rules are different from bigger WLS. I need to stock up on meds with codeine, they are the only thing that will work for me if I have cramps or serious back pain.

How do you deal with cramps?

Oh my!! I called my doctor 4 days after the surgery because of some pains and he did say no NSAIDS but I thought it was because of the swelling around the band. But I think this site is going to safe my life! I'm off NSAID's for sure! But can you use ointments for the back that has some NSAIDS in them?

How do you deal with cramps?

Why is Advil a no no ? Ok Google is my friend. I've been taking Advil/Ibuprofen because of back pains and it didn't give me any stomach problems..
  7. It's a very common problem I think. I was in so much pain for the first 2 weeks. And sleeping on my right side did EVERYTHING for me, it helped loosen up the air. About burping, I love burping now, feels so good haha. After not being able to burp for days, I get so happy when it finally comes. I usually burped when I was picking something up from the floor. I guess bending over pressures the air somehow. Hope the bending over and sleeping on the right side helps.

    Special food treats?

Ok so before I got banded I loved getting Chinese food (deep fried shrimps mmmm), pizza, burgers or something like that on Friday evenings. But today that is not allowed and I'm ok with that, but I still want something really good for friday evenings. But something that does not include Pasta, bread or deep fried food. What do you guys do if you want to treat yourself with food? Just something that makes your mouth Water and you can't wait to eat. . I think that tonight I'm going to make a lettuce burger.http://foodimakemysoldier.com/lettuce-wrapped-cheeseburgers/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed:+blogspot/UxlzH+(Food+I+Make+My+Soldier) I think it looks really good. I'm just going to have my own ingredients and try to have it healthy
  9. Down one pant size! Happy Day :)

Best advice I can think of is try not to beat yourself up over it. It is done and you cannot undo it. if you are like me, and you beat yourself, you will end up in that vicious cycle of "well I will start over again on Monday", etc. Start over now. Don't wait. One meal, one hour, one minute at a time. Learn from it and move on. :) (Can you tell this is something I have dealt with already and already discussed extensively with a counselor? :)) One good piece of advice the counselor said, is ask yourself, what would you say to a friend that came and told you the same thing? Would you beat them up or be encouraging? Think of that and then give yourself the same kind advice.

    Difficult days

Ok I'm 5 weeks post op and I've been doing really good. I need to begin exercising though but my neck and back has been giving me seriously bad time. I had to go and buy some liquid ibuprofen and I can hardly manage the days without it. Hopefully I'll get better very soon! I'm loosing some weight and I saw a new number on the scale that I haven't seen for a whole year!! I was very happy. It was this morning but it's not my day to step on the scale so I'm not counting it as weight loss yet. But it comes as a bit of a surprise! I am having food craving!!! I want something unhealthy soooo bad now. So yesterday was a relapse. I had some chicken and then fries!! yes fries!! Only like 10 of them (that's not a lot for me!!) and then after like 4 hours I had maybe 4 dorritos chips with salsa dip and cheese and little bit of ice cream. OMG it's so difficult to write this down but I decided to be honest about this. I decided since I was doing to eat this, I was going to have just small amount. And comparing to how I was before getting banded, this is nothing! Today we had guest over and there were some waffles baked. Not Belgian waffles though, but some very soft ones. I had 1 waffle with jam and whipped cream. Usually I would have like 3 or even 4. And I didn't even crave more waffles. That was surprising to me. Weekends are so hard. It's from decades of abusing food on weekends but I need to work my mind into not thinking about food on weekends. I don't believe that a relapse is the end of everything. You fall and you stand up again.
  12. lapband78

Ugh I was doing so good.. :-(

I ate when I was hungry when I was on your stage. So don't worry. I've read once the swelling goes down and you will be able to eat as much as before, that's normal. Just try not to And if you fall, you can always stand up again
  13. Can it be I need another fill after 1 week. I feel I can eat too much

    1. lexiemia

      lexiemia

Give it some time. You don't want to get it too tight because it will cause you to get food stuck. Give it a couple weeks and see how you do. I found it helpful to eat very slow and stop when I started to feel full. It Is easy to get in the habit of eating more than we should and what is actually happening is the esophagus is dilating. I went through all of this for 11 years. Finally got tired of stuck food and vomiting. Converted to a sleeve May 28th. It may be helpful to weigh your food for a while.

    2. lapband78

      lapband78

Thank you for your advice. I never eat until I'm full. I always stop when I think I'm at the limit. But yeah I wont get a fill untl after 3 weeks from now. I guess there is more swelling going down now.

    Changes in body

My weight has dropped since the surgery, a healthy drop. I'm only counting my weight loss from the day of surgery, not before. But my body has changed a lot more than my weight. I don't know why but it has. I was in a bath tub yesterday and I could easily put my arms down by the side. If I did that before, it would get really tight. My clothes are getting bigger, specially around the arms. I notice my chin has changed and my fingers. My pants are way to big now, and I need to buy new. Why there is more change in the body that the weight surprises me. I mean I have weighed this before and not looked like this. I love it I struggle a little with the amount of food to eat. I try to figure it out but it's difficult, specially at work where I'm not measuring in a cup. I have a small dessert plate that I put my food on and I think it's the right amount, maybe a little more, maybe. But then when I'm eating with other people, I sometimes forget my speed and eat faster than I should. That means I get a reflux and have to wait a few minutes before I continue. But hey, it's only my 4th day on solids, so I'm learning. But I keep thinking about Band slippage and I'm so afraid it will happen. Last night when sleeping, I woke up a few times thinking I could feel my band. I guess it's imagination but it's nerve wrecking I think. I need to Google how it feels like when people have a band slippage so that I can stop worrying about it so much. But over all it's going really well. I need to add some amount of food for breakfast because I get hungry so soon. I usually don't eat a lot. So now I have some chicken sausages and eggs. Cheerios is NOT working as breakfast. It tastes terrible when you have to chew it a lot. But I'm not used to eat hot breakfast but I'm kinda looking forward to it. Over and out
  15. I wore a gown and then these ugly shorts or underwear. And I had to wear a diaper or something haha because they give you muscle relaxer and that means some pee can come. That didn't happen to me though but I had a very difficult time peeing for the first 2 days. Not painful, just took long time. You are then covered in your surgery, and you are kind of standing in it but they tie you down so you wont fall
  16. Goal of today is to drink 2 liter of water! 2.5 liters if I'm lucky

    Post surgery depression

When I met my surgeon for the first time after the surgery, I told him that I had regretted the lap band 100 times since the surgery. He told me that it was very normal. The changes are big for us, people who love to eat but it will be great, it really will be. I feel so much better now that I can eat regular food, it makes all the difference in my opinion
  19. Made Cauliflower bread :) That can totally come instead of bread

    1 Month banded

Today is one month since I got banded. It had been an emotional roller coaster. First because of pain from the surgery and then food craving. The food craving will not go away but I will learn to live with it. Right now I'm craving bread, any bread with anything on it. But I'm going to make a Cauliflower bread tonight, I'm excited. I had my first solid food yesterday. Chicken in a sauce and some lettuce. I was very careful on the amount I ate and chewed slowly. My family ate maybe 4-5 times more than I did, but it still took me longer to finish my portion. I had a tiny little nausea while eating but nothing that bothered me. And I have to tell you, I wasn't hungry and I managed until breakfast!! I was sooooo happy. When on liquid diet and soft died, I always had to have an evening snack. Yay Today I had yesterdays leftover for lunch and I felt so sick!! The nausea was bad, but then after 2 hours I released a burp (haha) and I felt a lot better. I guess I ate to fast or something. Now it's been 5 hour since lunch and I'm feeling a little hungry but I'm going to eat dinner in 1-2 hours. I hope I make it. Happy 1 month anniversary to me

    Pill crushing

I stopped after I went on soft food. Now today I always break them in 4 pieces, I have to take them slowly, make a few minutes between or else I get sick But for pain killers, I took them in liquid form.

    A good hurt...

Awesome!! I'm going to bring my bike out this week. My butt is going to hurt, we will be pain in the butt friends Tomorrow I'm going to buy some pants so that I can ride the bike in rain. No excuses! Need to exercise.
  23. First solid food tonight after 1st fill. Both Excited and nervous :)

  24. lapband78

Please say it gets easier! :-(

I'm 4 weeks post op. I eat when I'm hungry and I'm even allowed to have red or white vine (I don't think though). I'm sure you can do that as well. Just no beer. But I feel your pain. Being on liquid diet or soft food is terrible in the long run! But you can do it. The 4 weeks went by faster than I thought they would.
