  1. I took 11 days off but I was ready to get back after 5 days. I was bored to death at home and ready to get out. I was off pain meds and driving at that point. I still took the time off that I had asked for but I really could have gone back.
  2. I haven't had that situation but think of all the money you will save on food now! Welcome and good luck! I am also in Metro Atlanta!
  3. Glad you found another surgeon! Sounds like the one you had was a real jerk and you need someone to be on your team! Good luck with the new doc!!
  4. DISCIPLINE- the difference between what you want and what you want right now. I think of that often when making food choices or when I have head hunger.
  5. food funerals are just pounds you have to lose AGAIN. Change your eating habits to high Protein and low carb now, less shock to your system for later. The less weight you have going into surgery the better and the closer you are to your goal so why wait? Don't worry about weight lost before surgery, it doesn't matter if it "counts"...it is still weight you need to lose. Stop the caffeine now, get rid of sugars and sweets now, stop fried foods now. Start drinking 64+ ounces of Water or sf, non-carbonated fluids. More if you can! Good luck!
  6. At 3 weeks I was on soft foods. I drank 1 Protein shake a day and the rest was Water. So I was getting in about 60 g of protein a day and maybe around 50 ounces of water at that point. Your Protein Shake is not as high as it could be to help you and it has sugar alcohols in it as well as sugar. Premier Protein has a ready to drink that has 30g of protein and that is half your day's goal. If you just can't drink those for whatever reason, then try some others. Isopure makes a ready to drink carb zero that has 40 g protein in it. It is a large bottle but you can sip on it throughout the day and add water to complete your ounces. In time you will be able to consume more and your protein won't come from shakes/drinks and more from food. Your tummy is still healing and swollen, hang in there!
  7. It makes total sense to fear an increase in calories. We have all overeaten our whole lives and now we are losing and someone says eat more. When have you heard that ...EVER? Did he also tell you what to increase your Protein to? If not speak to your nutritionist to map out a plan to increase your calorie intake wile preserving the weight loss. Good luck!!
  8. What a great feeling to receive such a compliment! You have obviously been hard at work and it paid off! Congrats on your success!!
  9. @@dcannan, thanks for the post and Good luck to you as well!!
  10. If you are on plan and it sounds like you are, maybe it is the exercise and muscle building. Take measurements to see instead of only gauging by the scale. Are your clothes fitting fitting different? Make sure you are also getting in 64+ ounces of Fluid a day.
  11. You look amazing! Thanks for sharing your surgiversary with us! Keep up the good work and congrats on your health!!
  12. I don't have any guilt but I will say I didn't do the surgery for years and years. Someone asked me why and after thinking about it long and hard I have come to realize I was afraid to succeed. I was hiding behind my weight and trying to be invisible and now I am losing the weight and gaining confidence I am grateful for the surgery and the health it is bringing. Hope that makes sense.
  13. I love your posts and thank you for sharing! I have been overweight my whole life and after going through a traumatic divorce (ending in a restraining order and other issues), I retreated into solitude and ate more than ever before. I met the new love of my life in 2010 and we got married 2 years ago. I now want to live longer so I can spend time with him. I want to be healthier so we can do more. He has 2 kids from a previous relationship (14 and 10), and I want to be able to keep up with them! I also work at a job where I wear scrubs and I couldn't even find scrub pants that fit, so I had to wear knit pants in black with scrub tops. I have now gone down from a 4x to a 2x. It feels great to not feel like I need to try to be invisible as I have my whole life. I feel like a butterfly being re-born. I still have along way to go but my whole confidence level is changing, it is bleeding over into every aspect of my life. Thank you again for your post and that is my share!
  14. Bahahaha...sorry! Well you know there are those know-it-alls that just want to tell you what to do...how's that? lmao
  15. I took 11 days. I could have gone back at 7 but was glad I had the time off. My job is more sedentary so I knew going into it that I would be fine. Also I had healed very well from prior surgeries. Everyone is different but the average I see is a week, only you know your body and how well you do. Good luck!
  16. Congrats on your epiphany. I too had to realize that food was something I need to survive not something that I needed to put my life around. A quote I put on my mirror so I see it every morning is "Focus on what you want most, not what you want right now". I am working every day on a NEW relationship with food. Those thoughts still creep into my head but I have gotten much better at seeing them for what they are. Sounds like you are on your way to success! Go you!!
  17. Congrats on your choices and your great attitude! You have already made the toughest decision and tomorrow you will be on your way. No, it isn't always easy but once you see those pounds coming off you will want more. Success it the greatest reward! Good luck and keep posting your progress!!
  18. Definitely talk to your nutritionist. The pre-op diet is to shrink your liver making it safer to retract it during surgery so they can get to the stomach. There are different plans based on how much they need your liver to shrink. Make sure you are getting your Fluid intake high as that helps, but also ask what can you have? Good luck!
  19. A little over 8 weeks post-op here and I still have passing thoughts in my head of food. Foods I can' t have, foods I used to eat and I know it is just in my head. I have tried to identify when this happens and it tends to happen in situations when I would have mindlessly eaten before. I try to get my mind busy doing something else and I find the thoughts go away. The surgery helps our stomachs but not our heads, we have to work through those issues. Good luck!!
  20. Just as any aspect of life, some people are educated about things and some are not. Yes, everyone's journey is their own but a lot of things are common among us. Most people just want to help as they have been helped, pay it forward. I do not comment on things that I know nothing about. I will always try to help when someone posts a question because I assume they really want help, after all it is a support group. I researched every day for 6 months before my surgery and I am very well informed on the plan and what works for most. You an tell the difference when someone is asking for true help and when t hey are asking for permission to cheat or do their own thing. Agreed for sure that the first stop for advice should ALWAYS be your nutritionist or surgeon. I often email my nutritionist if I have a specific question about my plan or Vitamins. People just have a desire to help sometimes. It is not always about telling you what to do, they just want to contribute. It is always okay to tell them you have a plan in place already and thank them for their interest in helping. You know sometimes they just might have something valuable to offer.
  21. The main thing is to stick with Protein isolate since it has a higher percent of protein. Try different ones until you find the one that works for you, we all have different tastes. Ask for help at the store making choices with allergies. Good luck!!
  22. It is fine...if you are able to get your daily intake accomplished then begin to work on your protein amounts
  23. I love Quest bars, I also like pure Protein bars and Premier Protein bars with Quest being my favorite. I personally like Jay Robb Protein Powder.
