@@RNsleever715 The surgery went smoothly. The surgery only took 30-40 minutes. I was up and walking shortly after I returned to my room. I had some gas pains yesterday. Today I still have discomfort from the gas but not as bad. I'm able to drink Water slowly without any issues. Had a bowl of beef broth Breakfast. I'll have no problems getting my minimum fluids in. In a nutshell, I'm doing better than I thought I would be. I'm sure I'll feel better with each passing day. The staff at the OCC is great. A very pleasant experience.

@@RNsleever715 I encourage you to bring things that work for you. Please discuss it with one of the doctors before taking it just to make sure there isn't an interaction problem with one of the medications they give you. Every one else in my group (4 other people) did really well. The OCC is there to help. You can contact them at any time. If you need to see a doctor after you're back at the hotel all you do is have the hotel shuttle drive to to the OCC. It's good to be prepared but I wouldn't worry too much.

My nutritionist told me to introduce new foods slowly one at a time. If a new food isn't tolerate then back off for a few more days before trying again. I'm only on day 2. Having a rough enough time getting liquids in while fighting nausea. The tiniest of air bubbles in my new tummy makes me nauseous. Gook luck!

@@jaczim My surgeon was Dr. Ariel Ortiz at Obesity Control Center. My interaction with Dr. Ortiz himself was pretty limited, but he is a world renowned surgeon with impeccable credentials, so I felt very safe in his hands. For me, the big feature of OCC is the full team. I got quick and helpful answers to all of my questions from the staff both pre and post-op and I received excellent care at the clinic. The nutritionist has been a godsend providing me with all the pre and post-op diet instructions, answering all my questions about Vitamins, following up with me many times post-op to check on my progress, and just generally being awesome. In fact, I just emailed her with a question this past Sunday. I'm almost 10 months post-op, but had a question about the change in formula of my Multivitamin. I sent the email around 7:00pm and she had replied by 10:00. This was on a Sunday no less! Remember, these people got my money 10 months ago. They won't be getting any more money from me. Yet they still take the time to respond quickly to all of my questions and provide excellent service. I was pretty impressed with that.
The other doctors at OCC were similarly responsive. Dr. Jimenez answered my questions about when to stop and restart my Vitamins and prescription meds around my surgery. Dr. So helped me when I thought my drain site might be infected post-op. I sent him photos and he called me within minutes to let me know he didn't think it was infected, but with instructions on how to care for it and advice for what to do if I really was concerned about infection. Turned out it wasn't infected after all, but I was impressed that he called me literally within minutes of me emailing him photos.

Wow. I am amazed at the discipline of weighing and graphing. Kudos to you. I only weigh myself at my surgeon's office because I want to use the same scale. It's not important enough for me to buy a scale and sync with that. I go mostly by how my clothes fit. The important part for me is my health issues improving. I've improved in so many areas (HBP- down to 1 pill vs 4, sleep apnea - gone, Diabetes - off insulin shots and down to 1 pill a day, cholesterol down) that's what excites me. I'm 9 weeks out and saw my surgeon yesterday and was surprised I had lost 42 lbs. It felt kind of like being pregnant for 9 months and waiting until the birth to see if it's a boy or girl. It felt great! My hopes to all of you that your journey be joyfilled.

I just had surgery in Mexico yesterday. I don't expect to have any complications. I will see my primary care physician in 2 to 3 months for blood work and possibly adjusting my prescriptions. If I had anything bad happen I'd go to urgent care or the ER.

I just looked back through my email and see that I received mine on 9/13/14. My surgery was 9/1/14. So it was just under two weeks. They do all of their note-taking in Spanish, so it makes sense that it would take them a little time to have it translated to English. The surgical report itself is two pages and goes into a lot of detail about materials used and whatnot. Then there is one page that is a scan of my EKG graph. And one page that is a scan of my lab results.

I do a Protein Shake for Breakfast, and actually, I hit my Protein goal again today. I think I was eating too much vegetables and none had enough protein. Now that I'm eating chicken for lunch and dinner, I hit my protein goal yesterday and today - I just need to work on the fluids. Counting my protein shake, I've had less than 20 ounces today. I just feel uncomfortable if I drink too much at once. And I'm busy at work and don't remember to drink any. It's so frustrating! Maybe I need to try the fruity Protein Shakes so I can drink more than one a day and get more liquids in.

Bless you honey! I am low carbing right now and I could eat a truckload of cupcakes. I mean a TRUCK. LOAD. Lol! I am going to be a handful when I get to this stage.
My husband cooked spaghetti with yeast dinner rolls for dinner - I had to leave the kitchen. I am not even kidding. I wanted to cry! I went outside & jumped in the pool and went for a swim. My only advice is distraction. And maybe try adding ice to the Protein Shakes so it feels like a milkshake??

@@RNsleever715 Once you arrive you will sign some paperwork and do your pre-op testing (EKG). You will then be taken to your room where you will change into a hospital gown. The nurse will setup your IV and give you something to relax you as you wait for your turn. Once you are taken to the operating room they will give you a drug that will make you feel really good. The next think you know is waking up in recovery. Then back to your room. Once the anesthesia wears off you will get up and walk around a bit. They will bring you ice and Water so you can start learning to sip. (Go slow) The IV will remain until the following morning. You will receive fluids, pain drugs, antibiotics, and anti-nausea drugs in the IV. The next morning they will remove the IV. You'll get dressed then receive some medications to take home. Then you are taken back to the Marriott.
There were 5 surgeries yesterday. Met some nice people. You'll do great.

I gave my surgical notes, leak test and blood work done in Mexico to my PCP. He has done followup blood work for me at 3 months and I'm going to get my second set of bloodwork tomorrow. Then I'll see him at my one year surgiversary in November. No complications for me!
