  1. I can't eat hardly anything that I used to. The strangest thing. I had read your tastes can change around 6 months but that it only lasts a while. I just passed my 1 year mark and have lost 92 lbs. regular food all tastes the same. I eat pina colada yogurt, Protein bars, premier Protein drinks and a boat load of candy lol. I have never cared about candy and sweets. and I'm still losing weight! My diabetes is gone and my A1C is in the 5s from 12. It's crazy. Has anyone else experienced not being able to eat regular food?
  2. wish I could afford fixer upper surgeries.

  4. I live in Fort Collins and would love to meet anyone else that is getting ready to go through this or has. I had a sleeve done in 4/2015 and have lost 80lbs! I'd love to hear from you! Kat
  5. I'm having surgery on my left arm on the 17th of august, and my right knee is in a brace and having PT for it and my neck which is so not good . I also am wearing a catheter due to bladder retention until september. needless to say i'm not able to do much exercise except for what I have to do for PT on my arm, knee and neck. I'm not seeing much weight loss and think I'm in a stall. i'm so afraid i'm going to stop losing weight or even worse, regain weight. I had my surgery April 13th, 2015 and have lost 50lbs so far (not complaining). Being 57 doesn't help either. I'm making sure I get at least 60-70gms of Protein a day. I'm a picky eater and so I'm concerned that is hurting me. I've had to set reminders on my phone for when i need to eat or snack (i have a brain injury and my long and short term memory is horrible.) I basically have 1 Protein Drink in a.m. with my meds (30gms protein) and then I eat a lot of light yogurt (80 cal, 7gms protein) x 6. sometimes boars head deli turkey plain, baked potato w/chilli, blueberries with almond milk, spaghetti, chicken, salmon, but on days that i don't want to cook it's mainly the Protein drinks and yogurts and maybe something i made ahead of time and froze. All in all it stays under 1000 cal. since i'm not going to be as mobile maybe I should cut back calories? how many calories do you think a couch potato burns in a day? lol cuz that's what i'm going to be for atleast 2 weeks. Has anyone had to put their exercise on hold? and what was the outcome. I think i'm going to be unable to really exercise for a couple of months. They are talking about doing neck surgery next after i've recovered a bit from my shoulder repair. I've also found the strangest thing. sometimes (usually in the afternoon) i find I can eat more than what I typically eat. a.m. is 11oz of protein drink, snack is 1 yogurt, lunch is usually 2 yogurts, my snack is a protein cookie (yuck) or yogurt and then dinner can be more traditional. I'm open to any and all feedback! Kat

    What does full feel like?

I've researched the digestive process and understand now why my hunger isn't there. I'm 9 weeks out and have had to set 5 timers on my phone to remind me to eat or snack. There is a hormone called Grehlin in your stomach that secretes more as you get hungry. Once you eat it stops secreting. In a sleeve you have 80% of your stomach removed. It totally throws off the production of Grehlin. Not only is your stomach healing from the surgery (which drinking your Protein to 60-70 gms a day is important. Not just for healing but also for stabalizing your whole system.) I've read that there is a risk at 6-9 months out that you could start losing your hair (it does grow back) I also read that if you take a lot of protein in from the beginning that your hair won't be affected. I'm hoping that's the case. I'm up to eating about 700-800 calories a day. I read labels and shoot for food low in carbs and sugar. My only vice is yogurt (which I never used to like). It has good protein and even with the "light" yogurt there are still 11 gms of sugar. I've discovered my "ate too much" button a couple of times and it wasn't pretty. It does change as you heal. I started out being able to drink 1 oz. and now i'm up to 4oz of solid food. If you are eating/drinking like they say to then your body should signal you before you get too full. The expression "your eyes are bigger than your stomach" is very true in this surgery lol.

    How often do you weigh?

Wow. I am amazed at the discipline of weighing and graphing. Kudos to you. I only weigh myself at my surgeon's office because I want to use the same scale. It's not important enough for me to buy a scale and sync with that. I go mostly by how my clothes fit. The important part for me is my health issues improving. I've improved in so many areas (HBP- down to 1 pill vs 4, sleep apnea - gone, Diabetes - off insulin shots and down to 1 pill a day, cholesterol down) that's what excites me. I'm 9 weeks out and saw my surgeon yesterday and was surprised I had lost 42 lbs. It felt kind of like being pregnant for 9 months and waiting until the birth to see if it's a boy or girl. It felt great! My hopes to all of you that your journey be joyfilled.
  8. I forgot to tell you Congrats! Not just in losing the weight you have, but the courage to take this step to live a healthier life! I wish you continued success.

Got all my protein in today

I do watch my calories and I keep a journal. I typically find just a few things that I like and eat them over and over. I read all the labels when I buy something. At 9 weeks out i'm probably getting around 800 calories a day. My day usually looks like this: morning I have premier Protein with my meds (160 cal). at snack time I have a light yogurt (90 cal) at lunch I'll eat my lettuce wraps or something similar (2 leaves at mix 160 cal) snack is another yogurt or blueberries as light cool whip (90 cal) and then for dinner maybe 3tbl of refried Beans with cheese and 4-5 scoop chips (maybe 100 cal) then at night I have another Protein Drink with meds. (160 cal) (approx 760/day) sometimes I might snack on things like edamame or wasabi peas but I usually stick to the same diet. Only change is if I go over to my mother's....then i'll eat something different but it's usually only a few bites. She made cabbage rolls the other night and my eyes were bigger than my stomach lol I took 2 small ones and could still only eat 1. It's been an interesting journey so far. take care

    Exercise?!

I hate exercise. I have a Mifit band that tracks my walking and tells me how many calories I've burned. I just keep increasing my steps per day. I love that it takes into account the normal walking I do around the house or shopping etc. I've lost 43lbs so far at 9 weeks out and even stalled for 2 of those weeks. as long as I'm losing i'm not going to think about any other form of exercise. good luck!

    Empty hungry feeling

Protein is ESSENTIAL. Get some Protein drinks (I drink premiere protein from Sam's club) 30gms a drink. Your body will not digest the food properly if you don't get enough protein. Protein help heal your body. Pasteurized milk does not contain enough protein. If you are drinking raw milk that is different. If you don't get enough protein on a daily basis you could end up losing some hair in months 6 or 9. they say it will grow back but i don't want to take a chance. I have a Protein Drink in the morning with my meds and one at night. I'm 9 weeks out. have stalled for 2 of those weeks and have still lost 43 lbs pre surgery. Best of luck on your journey
  12. they absolutely do downsize. i'm 9 weeks out and I fit into shirts that I couldn't for a long time. I was a 40DD. No idea what I am now but I can tell i'm going to have to get fitted again. i'm going to wait until i've lost most of my weight. I'll deal with the straps falling down for as long as i can. I hate having to dig into my shirt and pull the straps up lol.

Got all my protein in today

good job! I drink premier Protein in chocolate or strawberry. it has 30gms of protein per drink and doesn't taste bad. I get it at sam's. I read that if you keep you daily protein up to 70 or so gms that it will help in the prevention of hair loss around the 6month or 9 month. I drink one for Breakfast with my meds and the other at night. Best of health on your journey!
  14. I ate yogurt, cream of wheat, got homemade Soups from the grocery store, applesauce, drank 2 Protein drinks a day (Premier Protein 30gms) SF pudding, at that phase I wasn't really hungry. A little bit goes a long way. I spoiled myself with mashed potato and gravy from KFC. I couldn't deal with mashing things that have texture. I looked at baby food but it is so high in calories, carbs, sugars it's not worth it. Best of luck on your journey!

In a stall 6 weeks out

I hit a stall at 6 weeks for 2 weeks. I knew it was going to happen, and will again. Your body is so out of whack after surgery that it has to right itself occasionally. I would keep moving forward with your meats. You are going to have to eat them eventually and your body is going to have to adjust to it. that's a big impact on your body. I knew I was out of my stall when my clothes started feeling different. I went to the surgeon's yesterday and had dropped 43lbs since presurgery. I am in agreement with rogoflum. Premier Protein is awesome. I have it in chocolate and strawberry. I get it at Sam's. I start my day with one when I take my meds and I end the night with one. that way I know I have gotten 60gms of protein at least that day. Also, they say that the more protein you have in your diet the less chance of hair falling out down the road. just that fact inspires me to have as much protein as possible. Just an FYI, Sam's sells this awesome chicken mixture that is similar to the lettuce wraps at PF Changs. It's 70 calories for 2Tbl and hardly any carbs and sugar. I can't get enough of it. I put a little in a lettuce leaf or 2 and I am happy. Best of luck in your journey.
