Oh good!! I have been trying to hit around 60 or 70 grams a day. I have a bad history of flaking on diets and programs so i am def trying to be as proactive as i can be with this. I am super pumped for surgery, scared... but so ready! I meet with my surgeon the week after next to select a date. Im hoping for early May. Thank you for the info guys! I look forward to sharing my "after" story!

Forty to 70 grams a day is in the general range of the CDC's Protein recommendations for adults (46 grams a day for women) that's your base line recommendation. Too much of anything can be bad.

Recently ive been cutting out all junk foods and bad Snacks and replacing them with Protein Shakes and Protein rich foods (i havent started my pre op diet, im just trying to form good habits before hand). My question is, can you get too much protein pre op?? I know it will be different once im sleeved, it will be hard at first to hit my goals, but im curious... what is a normal protein range to try to stick to before surgery?

Popsicles, my dear, sugar-free popsicles. They are a life-saver when you need the crunch/chew factor. POPSICLES!

It would be a pretty high number. I think depending on your activity level anything over 100gms or more might be a little taxing on your kidneys and liver. However increasing it to 60 -80 gms probably will not hurt you as long as you eating a balanced diet.

Good Girl! Way to go, preparing ahead of time! You should do really well at this stuff! Why not try for the post-surgery Protein requirement of 60-80 grams? When is your surgery scheduled? When do you start your pre-op diet, and for how long are you on it? You must be really excited for this, to do all this beforehand! I look forward to hearing about your journey...keep us informed!

I go for my sleeve in two days, Wednesday, April 1, 2015.
I have to say, this has been one of the hardest decisions and processes in my life. And I have been through many mentally and physically demanding events.
It's not the "right" thing to do, it's the NECESSARY thing to do. I know that. I'm an intelligent man who has had numerous, frank conversations with his doctors. That's what keeps me marching forward, through all the doctors visits / tests and the wonderful liquid diet. But the fear, anxiety and the unknown weighs heavy at times.
Up until a few days ago, I could watch myself take this emotional roller coaster ride. One that I was unable to stop and get off. I'm sure a lot of that had to do with the diet, which I now have become accustomed to. But I have now become sanguine over the pending surgery with the hope that 1 year from now, I'll be able to look back and say, "This was the best decision of my life."

Thanks for all the kind words! Sometimes I can't see how much I've lost, and putting the pictures together like that, in the same clothes, really helps.
@@jenpoo , nothing special, advice-wise. I just work the program my doctor gave me as best I can. Oh, and I do use Jergens firming lotion almost daily. Not sure if it helps, but it makes me feel better!
@@Okiebon ,I exercise regularly, but I don't do any special ab exercises. My stomach is the last part of me to gain weight (butt and thighs are always first), and it was the first part to lose.
I've lost 12" in my hips and 11" in my waist. Yes!

I understand what your saying to a degree but it can be much harder on the other side. I didn't cheat but I had issues with Water it's not easy in the beginning for a lot of people and Protein can be an issue too. I can understand and relate to most of the post with people feeling frustrated especially in the beginning weeks. Just Reading that someone is having issues with Fluid and actually understanding what that's like is two different things. When you can only sip the smallest sips yet you have recommended amounts and pressure to not get dehydrated and end up back in the hospital it can be beyond stressful. You can research all you want but you have no clue how you personally will be affected by the recovery process. Protein can be another frustrating issue because you can love your Protein Drink during pre-op and after surgery your sleeve hates it and it makes you sick. Again most of us have protein recommendations we are trying to meet so when that happens you are stuck trying to find one that agrees with your new stomach but you can barley drink that can take a toll a person mentally and physically. So the "suck it up buttercup" Moto isn't going to work when your puking your guts out and becoming dehydrated in the process. As far as pre-op your talking about people who are use to eating way more than they should (Usually) so you knock the calories down to 1/4 of what's been "normal" for them. It's not easy either. Also who says they aren't "working" at it? You can be working your hardest and still be frustrated all to hell so this should be a safe place to come for advice. A lot of people are here because they are working hard and they feel discouraged at times. Maybe they just need some encouragement and validation that they are not alone. No one said it would be easy just hope you don't have any of these issues along the way. You may want to wait until you've actually walked the walk to pass any judgment or rant about something you really have never experienced because to us post -op this sounds ridiculous and your judgment calls are invalid. I hope you don't have any issues .Only time will tell.

Holy judgmental lol. Congrats on your success, first of all. But I can't help but think the rant part of this post was completely pointless and inappropriate. Maybe the people who come here and post about their struggles and failures don't have a strong support system at home to talk to. Maybe they were under the impression that this was a safe and supportive place to come to discuss the hard times. Maybe they are feeling alone in this journey and just want to connect with someone and feel like they're not alone. Why do so many people on this forum have to knock other people down rather than lift them up?
I hate Protein shakes. 90% of them taste like crap. Does having that opinion and coming here to ask for advice on others to try, make me not love myself and want to succeed? No. And I don't even know how you arrived at that conclusion. Until you have seen one of these posters truly fail at losing or maintaining post-op, you have no right to assume they will fail.
I make mistakes and I will likely make mistakes after I've had surgery. But that doesn't mean I don't love myself or that I want to fail. I'm human. We all are. We all have strengths and weaknesses. I want to see everyone succeed with this surgery. I wish this forum could be a safe place to come and vent, rant, cry, share accomplishments and seek advice. Not be torn apart. Sometimes i think that maybe this isn't the right place for me. Most people are supportive and understanding but there are a few holier than thou types who are like a dark cloud on certain threads. And this post makes me believe that you're joining that club.
I guess I had a rant of my own.

I, too, worried about whether or not my boyfriend was a chubby chaser and would value me less if I got to a healthy weight. But I was so sick and miserable (and have already had one stroke) that I would have done the surgery regardless. As it turns out, he wants me to be healthy, whatever that takes, so that we can enjoy each others' companionship as long as possible.
Go into the search box and type in "Last straw". It will give you some threads on how stubborn we all are and what it took to open our eyes to the fact there is no disgrace in using surgery as a tool to help us get there.
You could walk five miles to the supermarket and carry you groceries home in a backback, but isn't a car a wonderful tool to get you there and back home? Spring is here now, and it is time to plant your garden. Are you going to cultivate the dirt with your fingernails, or are you going to use a spade or maybe even a rototiller? Those are tools to help you get the job done. Sure, a rototiller is the "easy" way out, but look how much more efficient and effective it is for getting the job done.
True, weight loss surgery will expose the dynamics of your relationships. Just tell your hubby that you have decided to get the surgery so that you can be healthier and happier and more involved in your life. And if he doesn't want to do it for himself, that is his business, but ask him to increase his life insurance.

I am hoping for a May date as well! Ive been on this journey since last August and it has been a tough one! I just had my last 2 tests this morning and spoke to the nurse afterwards, everything is ready to go! The surgeons meet next Tuesday to look at my case and after that it goes to insurance for approval. Im soooo ready to be on the losers bench! Hope to keep in touch everyone!

As BLERDgirl said, how long it takes between now and your surgery is up to your individual insurance company and your surgeon's program.
I think the vast vast majority of the people on this site will tell you it is most definitely worth it! It is hard, that is for sure, but it will change your life for the better in so many ways that it is well worth the effort. You need to be ready to make some serious changes in the way you deal with food and the way you cope with you emotions. I would say the bulk of the hardship is in the first few months. Your pre-op diet will likely be miserable. In the first few weeks post-op, you will be dealing with pain and discomfort and constantly struggling to get in your fluids and Protein. Then you will have a big learning curve as you progress through the various food stages and learn what and how much your new stomach can handle. But by 4 months out, you will really have the hang of it for the most part and you will feel like a normal human being again and at that point you will start really feeling confident that you made a great decision and that you really can handle it for the rest of your life.

Ok my post is probably going to piss some people off but oh well. Personally (just me) I believe if someone is only willing to go through with the surgery based on ease of insurance approval, they will be a failure at the surgery.
The surgery involved hard work, before and after, as all of us post ops know. The insurance approval actually was the easy part for me and that includes me giving up smoking to qualify. 75 pounds later I wouldn't change a thing.
HOWEVER, while I do think someone looking for ease will fail afterwards, perhaps the process itself will be an eye opener and OP will be successful without surgery. If you're only willing to put effort into one area, then that's probably the best one. Sheesh, if I had been 203, I don't know if I would have done the surgery either.
I do wish best of luck to the OP even if she has shown herself to be a rude individual. I could understand it if even one individual had come on here and told her she was bound to fail or she was ridiculous for thinking she could do it on her own but all I've seen is genuine well wishes while pointing out how she might have phrased her thoughts to be less insulting to those that didn't follow the same path.
    Good luck to you.

I'm curious about something.... If you have made the decision to not move forward with any type of bariatric surgery, and you plan on losing the weight and keeping it off in your own chosen method, why did you feel it was necessary to come here and let the world know of your decision?
Although there are some people on this website that are still in the decision making phase of their journey, you've made your decision if I'm correct. Did you post hoping that someone was going to try and talk you out of the decision you've made? And if that wasn't your intention, what made you think that anyone here really cared that you decided not to have surgery, not to mention you've continued to defend and fight against other members comments.
If you've decided you're not having surgery, then just leave the forum and go on with your life however you chose to live it. Why continue with any conversation at all?

I am so very proud of myself! I have been trying to make serious eating habit changes in preperation for my liquid diet and the diet of a new sleever. ive finally found a Protein Shake that i like and that is gentle on my lactose intolerant body, im upping my Water intake as much as i can, ive cut out junk food, bad Snacks and my "trigger" foods. I am listening to my stomache tell me when ive had enough to eat (which has always been hard for me!). Ive been trying to get outside for walks with my daughter, even after a long day at work. These little things give me the courage and confidence to know that i can do this! I will be a healthy person! It will get harder before it gets easier, but i know i can do this!
I have been reading posts on here for quite a while and i want to thank everyone for all the answered questions, general iinformation and good/bad experiences! its so helpful to know that there is such a great community of people just a click away... we are not alone in this!

I love her and hope one day she realizes why im doing this but until then i will keep reminding myself that this is for me and my daughter. this is to be healthy... not to make anyone else happy. Im glad to know that there is support here if not immediatly from friends/family!

My husband has been very supportive and he is proud of my weight loss. My sisters were very supportive but I was afraid to tell my brothers. I figured they would give me the "you can do it yourself" lecture. Surprisingly they were not too bad and have since become very supportive. You are doing this for you and no one else. Don't fret about what your sister thinks. If she loves and cares about you she will come around. As you loose weight and get fit you can start working out with her. Hang in there.
