Protein before surgery

Recommended Posts

Recently ive been cutting out all junk foods and bad Snacks and replacing them with Protein Shakes and Protein rich foods (i havent started my pre op diet, im just trying to form good habits before hand). My question is, can you get too much protein pre op?? I know it will be different once im sleeved, it will be hard at first to hit my goals, but im curious... what is a normal protein range to try to stick to before surgery?

Good Girl! Way to go, preparing ahead of time! You should do really well at this stuff! Why not try for the post-surgery Protein requirement of 60-80 grams? When is your surgery scheduled? When do you start your pre-op diet, and for how long are you on it? You must be really excited for this, to do all this beforehand! I look forward to hearing about your journey...keep us informed!

It would be a pretty high number. I think depending on your activity level anything over 100gms or more might be a little taxing on your kidneys and liver. However increasing it to 60 -80 gms probably will not hurt you as long as you eating a balanced diet.

Oh good!! I have been trying to hit around 60 or 70 grams a day. I have a bad history of flaking on diets and programs so i am def trying to be as proactive as i can be with this. I am super pumped for surgery, scared... but so ready! I meet with my surgeon the week after next to select a date. Im hoping for early May. Thank you for the info guys! I look forward to sharing my "after" story!

Also, the preop liquid diet my surgeon requires is for 2 weeks. Its going to be a tough road!

Forty to 70 grams a day is in the general range of the CDC's Protein recommendations for adults (46 grams a day for women) that's your base line recommendation. Too much of anything can be bad.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
