I had a long diet in 2007-2008 and i lost over 80 pounds, i cleaned my closet then and i swore to myself not to gain weight again but i did! I gained 110 pounds. Am now only 20 days post op but i don't want to think about cleaning my closet because am terrified of letting myself down again!

I have had wings and my surgery date was Dec 18th. I only have four at a time, and not depriving myself keeps me going. Have the wings, and remember moderation.

I was able to wear a size 50 dress pants today. This is a huge milestone for me as I started out at size 70 in the waist. I am so super excited.

I had my gastric sleeve surgery a week ago and maybe I am the exception but I did not have a lot of the side effects that I have read about on here or on You Tube Documentaries.
I have had no nausea at all and no pain to amount to much. I have had three spinal fusions and have had chronic back pain for 10 years so pain is nothing new to me. I have had no difficulty in swallowing but my diet is still liquid until the 11th of March. I have to admit I am pretty much tired of no solid foods but that is coming.
I keep waiting for something to happen but so far this has been as good or better than I expected for just being a week out.
In three weeks I have lost 30 libs which I dont guess is too bad.
    Love this forum..

So it seems my quiet shy nature and my desire to remain private have come to bite me in the bottom.
I decided to keep my surgery private when it comes to the workplace.
Suddenly I'm being attacked with: you obviously did something! What did you do? I stare like a deer in headlights. I've made it obvious I'm a private person. Why are they doing this? They are now going to my supervisor and asking same thing.
This really hurts me. Doesn't anyone respect privacy any more?

Dimka reacted to esskay77 in this is dumb but my biggest question is...
Yes it's hard but it's doable. I have always drank a lot of Water (or wine) with my meals. If the waiter wasn't around to refill my glass, I would really stress out. But, for the most part now, I'm good with it. With some exceptions but I make sure to keep that to a minimum.

I totally agree with this!! I respond the same way (just a bit defensive, huh?) LOL and won't be telling anyone I work with about this.

Actually, none of these foods are diet no-nos. In fact, the diet no-nos I have are high fat and high sugar foods. All of the foods you listed are acceptable on my diet in limited quantities. For instance, Bagels are high carb, but I can have them - only post-op, I have just 1 per week. I have noodles too, but I have low-carb noodles (Dreamfields brand), once a week, 2-3 tablespoons worth. My dietician gave me a food period (not the ridiculous USDA food pyramid, what a crock!), and these foods are on it. She said that being deprived is not what this surgery and this diet is about - I could have done that without the surgery (and boy did I try). She said that it is learning to have balance in my diet, and that's what my sleeve is for. I actually had my first doughnut yesterday - but notice I said doughnut, singular. I can no longer eat 3 at a time, and thanks to the sleeve - I don't want to! In fact, I was actually satisfied - I won't need to eat another doughnut for months
Radically overhauling my diet has been hard, which is to be expected. Being able to have some of the foods I used to enjoy, in very limited quantities, has allowed me to accept the diet as a permanent lifestyle, with a much reduced risk of falling off the wagon.

my purpose of this surgery at the end is to eat all the food I like with much smaller quantity. if any of you could stick to a strict diet for life, none of us would have needed surgery. We all have a disease called food addiction that's why we needed to resort to extreme measures. the only thing keeping me strong these days is that I know at am one week away from a 2 bites in a burger

I had my surgery on Feb 14 , left the hospital on Feb 15 and back to work on Feb 23. One week is good enough if you were lucky and didn't have any complications. I didn't use pain meds after leaving the hospital since it was all liquid i hated it.

No judgement! Just asking about your doctor's diet restrictions.
I was allowed loose instant mashed potatoes made with milk, Protein powder added and chicken gravy. My NP said I couldn't do too much damage as I could only eat a tablespoon or two. She said I couldn't have it often, but it was a good occasional thing.
I ate a lot of refried Beans, soft scrambled eggs, hummus, guacamole, yogurt, cottage cheese (vomit!).

Probably yogurt and Protein shakes would be your Protein sources this early out. Once I was onto soft foods I was allowed scrambled eggs, cottage cheese, and other soft cheeses as additional protein sources. In the next stage I was allowed tuna and shredded chicken, then ground meats, and then eventually whole meats once I was allowed solid foods at 40 days post-op.

You're less than 2 weeks out so your stomach is still very swollen. Once the swelling goes down, you will be able to get more in. I am 6 months out now and I can eat 2-4 oz. of meat at a time. I can eat all 5+ ounces of a greek yogurt at one time. liquids and soft foods I can obviously eat more of than solids. Your capacity definitely gets bigger.

You must remember that since your surgery was very recent, you have to account for swelling...after awhile and things are fully healed, you will be able to take in a little more volume. Things will indeed become much easier once all your 'internals' have fully healed and you have adjusted both physically and mentally to your new body.
Wish you all the best success!!!
