  1. Two years out, no weight lost. Was losing weight rapidly prior to surgery and then lost only 23 pounds just after surgery which quickly returned. I have no restriction or losd if appetite. I do diet and exercise like prior to surgery but my metabolism is destroyed. Has anyone else experienced this- total surgery fail?

Are you eating enough? Sometimes too small portions wrecks your metabolism. Do you have a nutritionist to confer with? Check out this thread. Maybe it'll help shed some light depending on your situation. http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/386879-anyone-who-does-not-count-calories-ever/

  2. My first follow since surgery is Thursday with my surgeon. How hoften did you all go after that? Never ? Every 3 or 6 months?

  3. OK, So tomorrow morning is a week since my surgery. Other than residuql surgical pain and the money I'm out I don't feel ant different. I havent lost weight in fact I was doing great in that regard before the surgery but I was afraid that I would gain it back. Now I'm JUST AS HUNGRY!

Ok, in the first week you experience water gain from all the fluids they pump into you. I am certain that is what has happened. That will all come back off very quickly and then some. In terms of hunger, are you certain they are hunger pains? Many times dehydration actually causes that effect. Are you getting all your liquids in? Depending on the surgery you had all the nerves that lead to real hunger pains have been cut so you should not be feeling real hunger at this point. Also it could totally be head hunger which you need to deal with. Don't let yourself get down, it only makes recovery worse. I promise if you follow the plan, the weight will come off.

  4. screaming, unfathomable, ripping apart, pain.

  5. more sodium in these protein shakes than I used to eat!!

Make sure you bring a soft pillow to hold on your tummy for the ride home!

OK So definitely can't live without my IPad. I wearing the hospital gown one frontwards and one backwards like a robe - no home PJ's because I'm not getting hospital germs on my own stuff if I don't have too. The hospital should supply the toiletries, toothbrush etc. for the same reason - I'm not bringing any semi private germs home it's all getting disposed of when I walk out the door. My husband will bring the pillow for the car. I may sound germ phonic but I'm a retired RN and believe me I'm not! Most nurses I know strip off thier uniforms at the door and walk straight to the washing room and drop it in and bleach it. I am really dreading being on the other side of the stethoscope!

You only need the pillow if it's a long ride. I live like 35 mins from the hospital. The ride wasn't bad enough to warrant pillow clutching for me. Then again, I had a mostly pain free surgical experience.

  10. Preop Day 9 Clear Sugar Fee Diet liquids 500 calories a day 20 carbs a day have gained 2 pounds.

  11. I'm thinking of backing out of surgery. On Day 5 preop. Have lost 32 pounds on my own in less than 2 months. Twelve more pounds and I don't even qualify. Maybe I don't need the sleeve. My husband and I are both retired now. We can go to the gym daily ,cook what I need. Help!

@blondebomb seriously though I have been on a low sodium diet for the last 2 months and doing well but have still been eating highly seasonrd good. Mrs. Dash Taco seasoning, Rotel Tomatoes no salt added. Now it's cold turkey. We went to Sam's club and the sight of those 3 foot jars of olives were just too much for me!! When I was a little girl my mother put a jar of green olives in my Christmas stocking instead of toys that's how much I love them!!!

  14. MY IPHONE APP IS POSTING THINGS OVER AND OVER!!!!

  15. So I went to my consult on the 5th and the office says my Coventry Advantra medicare Louisiana excludes WLS when they call customer service. I push so they call back and it's BMI >35 with 2 comorbids. But what if I had left? Then she wanted me to get the records from my PCP. Now she says she'll try once but then it's on me. She has 200 patients and she also isn't going to photo copy 2 inches of paper work. (they want last 2 years). So i'm redoing my sleep study tomorrow. That's 1. But all my labs over the last 2 years are normal. So is my blood pressure. I'm pre diabetic and my blood pressure is controlled with HCTZ. I am on atorvastatin for my cholesterol and that has kept it between 195 - 209. My LDL is great and always has been. So last chance - arthritis. I was treated 10 years ago at a pain clinic. MRIS whole bit. They no longer have my records. New law, you can destroy them after 6 years. So my PCP probably has me complaining about my back but I weaned myself off the duragesic patch and narcotics years ago. He doesn't treat my arthritis. Am I doomed?

Your insurance seems really tough to get around. See if your surgeon can find ways to make "justifications"... good luck.

Wow ! Good thing you stayed and advocated for yourself. I had an an issue where they though my insurance was inactive and my surgery was almost cancelled. I almost freaked out but I called the insurance, verified it was active and called my surgeon's office and had them do the same while I was on the phone. Keep fighting for yourself... you are worth it.

it really is - its what they get paid to do and its frustrating when they don't do it right

  17. So my initial surgeons consult was rescheduled from Jan. 28th to Feb. 5th due to my bronchitis. I have spoken to the coordinator on the phone so I have a better idea whate to expect. Has anyone ever done their osych eval online and then a follow up phone call? It's supposed to be a $100 fee.

  18. Well, my first consultation is tomorrow! My surgon only lists The Gastric Sleeve not the Bypass on his website so I'm not sure what options I will have!

Yes, I'm going to drill him goo lol. I may have to have surgery for my reflux before anything can be done. My ENT mentioned something about a nerve being separated to control acid? Also does anyone know how stomach polyps affect surgery? I know from past EGD's that I have severe stomach polyps as well. My gastroenterologist removed a couple of the large ones and they were benign so he said it was normal because of the reflux medication. I saw the scope and my whole stomach looked lime it was filled with brocolli.

I'm getting the bypass on the Feb. 17th. Last year I was referred to Mayo Clinic for my severe GERD. in hopes of a revision to my Nissen Fundoplication, but surgeon says at this point the Roux-en-Y is my only option to divert the acid.

    4. ab123.

      ab123.

Well I saw the surgeon finally yesterday. He says that he still wants to do the sleeve. He says I may have a hietal hernia and if so he is going to repair that as well at the time of the sleeve. He said he only does the bypass in patients who have cancer. He is very pro sleeve.
