Ahhh…the replacement addiction! Looks like shopping is pretty popular around…and that’s great choice compared to alternatives like alcohol and smoking! I’m solidly in the “loves working out” crowd of WLS’ers. I love how many of you combine shopping with working out as an addiction – buying new workout clothes and looking good in them!
Personally, I’m not really one for shopping. I’d have to say my replacement addiction for food is life. It meets the requirements…I chase it until I overdose on it. I love it and since getting the lap-band, I just keep going whether it’s with BariatricPal or working out or taking care of my kids. I let life run me into the ground before I stop, so I guess it counts as an addiction. A great one, though!

Doing really good down 57 pounds and I guess that is a good amount. I know we aren't supposed to compare ourselves to anyone else but I have gone from a size 22 pants to a 16 and I feel great!

My Dr. told me to use Coconut Oil also because I was drying out on my back where the bra rubs and it hurt. I found that you can also buy it at a real
good price at a TJ Maxx or Marshalls in the cooking section. It works really well.

    Hello group
4.18.2014 is my sleeve anniversary, I am just shy of one year. I have had reasonable success in that I have lost 140lbs. I started at 400 so I had a bunch to loose. Anyway, I have stalled at this level for the last 45 days or so.....I will loose 2 pounds and gain 2 pounds. Water intake, exercise, calories are all fairly constant. I saw my surgeon last week for a follow up and asked for advice. He explained that the body tries to seek normal. By that he means it wants to maintain a steady state. He advised me to shake things up: either exercise more or eat less. As we talked, he advised me to restrict food intake to 400 calories per day for the next month. I have done that for the last five days and lost 9 pounds. He further stated that I have lost all the easy weight, I am going to have to more actively manage my situation going forward based on results and be prepared to make adjustments as needed.
The concept of fighting normal was new to me and as such I thought I would share.

I had surgery the same day as you. And since I haven't been able to hold down shakes since the surgery
I have been trying an assortment of food. bread does not seem to be my friend.. It is the one thing that
sends me running for the Bathroom. It feels like I swallow it and it immediately stops half way down and
starts absorbing things and bloating up...Anything that would absorb Fluid (Bread, biscuit, dumpling,
some Cereal, breading on shrimp,) seem to be a no go for now...I have been able to eat a few chips and
am trying wheat thins very slowly right now to try to eat Egg salad with! Good Luck and let me know if
    you find something that works...

Al, I have not been able to hold down Protein Shakes since my surgery on Dec 29th,
I drink mostly Power-aide it has B-3 B-6 & B12. I also drink an occasional Propel or if I drink Water it has to have flavoring also, regular water just doesn't go down well. My Dr & Nut said it was more important that I stay hydrated than anything...You are still in my prayers.

I am doing better every day, I month out on the 29th...Have not had a shake since pre-surgery.. My nose and sleeve don't like them.. I get my fluids but not my Protein but it is improving every day. I ate a whole yogurt for the 1st time yesterday.. Water still doesn't go down well. but Gatorade & power aide do. I have a hard time getting all my Vitamins and fail at that often also but trying to stay positive...

ccausley - I had my first nutty Protein bar this morning...the texture of the other Protein Bars were causing me to gag (totally mental, it started when I was on the pureed phase). I didn't have any problems (woohoo), but probably should have taken my ppi first, because I did have a little heartburn afterwards.

First it was pizza, that didn't go well, than chicken wings from Buffalo Wild Wings, I ate 3 and that craving was
gone. The three that are left are Crab Wontons, Chicken Oriental salad from Applebee's, and Lobster or Crab with
    a little butter.

@@greatestnameever funny that you mention dreams! I had a dream where I was floating down a river in a plastic tub and there were decorated sheet cakes floating down the river, too...and I would grab one after the other and just go to town- like pie-eating contest style. I woke up feeling a sugar high and queasy. Tried to look up the meaning to that dream and...yeah...I think that one was too weird for the dream dictionary. LOL

I was told that toasting draws the moisture out of the bread so it is less likely to swell in your tummy. I have only eaten it toasted and that hasn't caused any problems for me. Haven't eaten regular bread, rolls, etc so don't know about that from personal experience.

I agree its a blessing that I can't eat bread like I did before the surgery. I also agree with the person who said chocolate is not their indulgence. I actually don't like chocolate or dessert
much. My indulgence would be bread or biscuits but I'm going to try toast first but I think I'll
wait longer before I try it. I sure like this site and how willing everyone is to help.

I am 6 weeks post op and was cleared to have toast at 3 weeks. I do enjoy a piece with an egg a couple of times a week. I have had no problems with any food I have eaten including the toast. Don't eat bread since it can expand in the tum or so my nut told me.
Hasn't slowed my weight loss thus far but if it would thats something I would adjust in the future if I felt it was necessary. I'm not in a race but a journey. I see people saying they allow themselves a piece of chocolate as their indulgence for all the hard work they are doing. That doesn't interest me lol. The egg and toast is my indulgence ????

When you begin to add things that are likely to swell up like bread and biscuits, try your first taste without additional foods, (I know, Protein first, but don't over fill your stomach till you know how you tolerate bread if ya know what I mean). Today, I can eat 1 egg on 1/2 piece of toast or 1/2 biscuit, or 1/2 english muffin in a kind of open faced sandwich, but it fills me to the brim. The other 1/2... Forget about it!
