I'm seven years out. Day of surgery I weight 384lbs. Earlier this week I logged 170lbs. I LOVE MY DS. As long as I'm good to it, it's good to me. The first couple of years I was feeling it out. Had a couple of mishaps. You do have daily visits with the porcelain throne. That's to be expected with this surgery. But I found that frequency and consistency is all diet controlled, at least for me. As long as my diet is high in good quality edible Protein and low glycemic carbs, all is normal and well.
Hopefully this image shares properly. This is a small collage of my before and after pics.

Hello everyone. Everyone seems to be doing pretty great! It's been forever since I have checked in here so here is a little update. Hw 315 SW 295 CW 230 (VSG 1/19) I am currently down 65lbs since surgery! I'm feeling great, yet I wish the weight loss hadn't slowed so much lately, LOL! It gets nerve-wreaking! I'm going to leave a few pics o share a little too. Keep up the good work everyone! Don't get too discouraged by the scales

Shoes~ I have a closet full of them that I can't wear for very long because it just hurts too much because of my weight, pressure, or whatever...would be nice to wear them again...oh, and thigh high boots!
Clothes~ Lots of them...sexy ones too, would be really nice
Not being out of breath~ walking upstairs, or down the block or during aerobic exercise, in general during the summer, etc...or even at night, apparently I have some sleep apnea and am on cpap, so it would be good to be off that damn machine.
Attention~ Alright, I am not too shy to admit I'd like a little bit of attention...from sexy men of course, LOL! Not the kind we've all become accustomed to, where you know they are talking about how fat you are either.
Roller Coasters~ I want to FIT comfortably on them! Some I still fit on, but having my chest smooshed to accomplish this just doesn't seem very safe lately
I want to go scuba diving, para-sailing, horseback riding, mountain climbing, and so much more, without my weight being the deciding factor! I want to LIVE...fearlessly. I remember how it felt to live that way...and I want it back

So I finally did it! Yesterday I went to the gym and lifted weights. I even did crunches and survived! Cardio is all well and good but muscle burns calories. I get my 10,000 steps/day just walking around campus, but I need my strength back.

The human body is so interesting.
The way our bodies respond to a pretty serious surgery and a tiny stomach and how fast everyone recovers from surgery is so individual. So is the weight loss.
I try to remember this is an individual journey before my crazy human mind jumps in and tells me I'm not doing it right, I'm bad, I'm never gonna get it, and then I get on the downward spiral of depression. It's going to take some time and my journey is most likely going to be different than anyone else's.
Seems I can get as crazy eating 4000 calories a day as I can 400 calories. LOL I NEVER in my life thought I'd only eat 400-500 calories a day and not be hungry AND NOT LOSE WEIGHT.
I do think I am getting some muscle back. I was pretty much a sleeping or sitting for the 1st 3 weeks after surgery. Muscle weighs more than fat so I just figure I'm getting muscle. Clothes are getting looser. Even got a ring on my pinkie that I haven't been able to wear for 20 years.
Best wishes to you all and I know we can all do this. It's just gonna take some time and patience.

NON scale SUCCESS! I was sleeved the 19th. Feeling better every day. Gas feelings/too full feelings went away. Getting my fluids and Protein in.
And today I am feeling my first non-scale success....
#1-my husband says try on your Columbia-I said "no no no" it hasn't fit in 2+ years. I felt bad cuz he bought it for me-well out of fat habit I took off my cardigan and put it on and it ZIPPED WITH EASE!!! So thrilled. Wearing it out tonight!
#2 Girlfriend wanted to do lunch and she does not know about sleeve. Told her sure but I am still on soup/squishy food. I went to lunch, ordered the Soup n salad bar and had two cups of Soup and a few sips of Water in two hours with little questions. She only knows about the hernia surgery. Yay!
    Feeling great.

Well everyone, I am home now...sore, but alright. Sleeved on Monday. I was feeling really good @ 6pm on the very first day, and I was walking and all, then it quickly changed. All of a sudden I was in pain and horribly nauseous. I vomited a total of 3 times between midnight and 8am. Apparently they thought maybe at first I was just sensitive to meds, then they thought morphine was the culprit, so they gave me delotid(sp?) and as soon as that hit my veins I was sick again. They finally pulled me off all narcotics, and gave me toradol(?), which is a strong iv version of ibuprofen, and phenergen(sp?) for the nausea and that finally worked! I wasn't advanced to liquids until 8pm on day two, and that was just sips of Water. This morning I started Clear Liquids and it's been well tolerated. I don't have much pain, just very sore and the occasional gas pressure. They said I could advance to full liquids, but I think I'm going to take it easy for a couple of days. I am very happy to be home tonight and in my own comfy bed.

Sorry, I know I haven't logged in lately. A lot been going on between family life and work. By the time I sit down at night, I am worn out. Things are going ok. I have lost 26 lbs since surgery. Was still really sore up til about a week ago. Still eating creamed Soups and liquids as I can't seem to eat any thing else yet. It hurts. Dr. wants me to try again tomorrow. Hope everyone is doing well. I will try to do better about checking in. Best wishes to all. Take care.

Get off the scale folks. I'm just as guilty and it's everyday for me but that Water weight especially in woman fluctuates a lot. I think covering it up, hiding it, etc...will help. Pick one day to weigh yourself a week. Good luck to us all and keep up the good work.

You will learn to be patient and eat slow. In 3 to 4 months you'll be able to eat 6 to 8 ounces at most in one sitting.

Im not, getting anywhere near my 60 grams of protein... I might get like 15 to 20 grams in.... As soon as i can eat meat tho, i think i will be fine. But these drinks are so gross to me now.. Ughhh its so annoying, and i dont feel like wasting more money on the Protein Shakes.

I am having so much trouble reaching my Protein goal, that I feel like hungry ???? I can drink Water all day but the protein I just can't do anymore. Feeling discouraged, because I can't even tell if it's head hunger or am I really hungry.

I am sitting in a hotel room in Richmond waiting for 7:00 am to get here so I can check in at the hospital. I am nervous...because it is surgery. But, I feel like I am in competent, capable hands. I am a little extra nervous because my surgery is a revision from lap band to VSG. I understand there are increased risks, and I am just hoping that I remain healthy through this process.
Good luck to everyone going tomorrow!!

Hi all, I was sleeved on Monday 1/19. It has taken me a few days to feel better, when I came home I was in a lot of pain from the gas and IV Fluid. I made my husband hide the scale because I know I'm still bloated. I'm on a liquid diet for 2 more weeks. I can only get about 48 oz of liquid in at this point. Just made a big pot of chicken Soup and vegetable stock so hopefully that will help as I cannot tolerate Water I've been reading this forum for the past few months whiled I prepared for my surgery and have learned so much. Excited to be a part of the January group!

I was sleeved the 20th! Everything went smoothly. I haven't had any pain except for the gas build up. As long as I don't try to drink too fast the gas issue is non existent. I have had zero hunger. Forcing myself to get my Protein in- have been able to get 60 oz of protein a few of the days. All in all it's been great. Dropped 12 lbs in 5 days so far. No issues sleeping either- however I have chosen to sleep sitting up on the couch. Wishing yall much success!

Hey Everyone...just checking in to see how everyone is doing? I'm hanging in and am very tired. I do have a lot of discomfort and am not doing too great w/sleeping since I'm not a back sleeper. I'm so jealous @@Jewelgirl04 that you slept thru the night!! I was able to sleep a little on my side w/a blanket under my stomach that got me a couple of extra hours. I pretty much get up @ 5:30am and doze in the recliner.
I've been telling people what I've done and they're all very supportive and happy for me which is nice.
Getting all the fluids in is difficult, but I'm doing my best. :-)
    I hope everyone's success continues!!!
