Drinking for the first time! Tips?
Happy Birthday! I think I would make it a very light drink with no soda. I am only three weeks out and have thought about what I would do when, if, I ever decided to have a drink again.

Frustrated!

Hello, my name is Jane, and I am.....a scale junkie :/
I am now 3 weeks & 2 days post and I am pretty sure I have hit the INFAMOUS three week stall (or plateau). I hate that inner me that needs to know that the scale is moving. My follow-up with surgeon is Tuesday and I would really like to be below 240 by then...2 lousy pounds. I have, for some unknown reason, had it in my head since the appt was scheduled that I wanted to be in the 230's and I haven't made it and its driving me nuts. I have already had a couple of small NSVs and its awesome but the scale thing is something I have fought since my twenties. Anyone else out there a scale junkie? How are you coping? I moved it out of sight and am not getting on it but every third day. "Taylor" (scale manufacturer) and I will meet up on Sunday morning (sans clothes, of course) and hope I have made some progress.

Received my surgery date!
@@no onions Welcome! I started my journey about two months before you and stopped in Dec. I didn't feel comfortable with the questioning of why I had decided to do the band. I had changed from sleeve to band for my adult daughter, she didn't want me to do anything permanent and I was ok with either it or the sleeve. My original choice was the sleeve (which is now 22 DAYS old). I too was first in that day for surgery on the 6th of May. Remember you prob wont be able to drink until you do the leak test. for me that was about noon the next day. I was dying for something to drink. drink plenty of Water as late as possible (mine was midnight) for hydration. Keep us posted, we have a spot here on the losers bench for you!

Normal Range of Weight Loss?
I agree with Bufflehead. I see my surgeon next Tuesday and I may be down about 26 or so pounds by then and I think that's pretty good from my starting weight. That is not based on my pre-surgical weight which was 261 (?) from his office. I think as long as we are losing - that's the plan - we shouldn't be compared to others because we all don't lose the same and not as fast (men/women, heavier start weight/lower start weight & younger/older). All men (women) are created equal, but we don't lose the exact same way.

@@Bethson I totally agree with @@Vikingsfan8178 about the meds and the life changing decision. If you can get off the pain meds and do OTC if you can. I am only 3 weeks and 1 day out and I have read about this a lot on these forums. I personally didn't feel this way. My thoughts were more about losing my hair. I am not a girly girl but my ONLY attribute I did manage to hold onto was my hair. Its grey now and thinner now that I am 52 and now in menopause, the thought of losing it (because of the sleeve) just kind of freaks me out. I was assured it will come back....so I have decided I may join the pink ladies (Red Hat) and start wearing some funky pink hats:D I It will get better and you will be thankful for the "tool" you decided to get to help you get healthier and live a better life

Timeframe - from decision to have surgery to getting surgery
I researched and decided late October to do WLS. I talked to my hubby and we both went to seminar that the doctor has for information purposes and that night set up an appt to meet with him. The seminar was Nov 4th and the first appt was Nov 11th (Veterans Day). They set up both chest xray & EKG to be done same day (I was off from work). I then had to do three monthly classes and meet with Nut and see head doctor. I got irritated with them questioning my choice for lap-band and pushing the sleeve. The bariatric doctor said I was a good candidate for either. I was originally going to do the band for the lesser "down" time and to appease my adult daughter. She didn't want me to do anything permanent. I cancelled my class for December & February. I continued to research to find out what I had missed about all of the complications and issues with the lap-band. I knew about all of it already and it made me question if the doctor just wasn't telling us everything at the seminar. He had told us about the erosion and slipping. It happens. I decided to start back and had my surgery three weeks ago. I messed up by cancelling because I had to wait about 6 weeks to get the 2nd and 3rd class done. I went with my original choice: sleeve. I am thankful I backed off and did my research. If I hadn't stopped in December I would probably be closer to 3 months out, but I needed to be comfortable with my choice.

Portion sizes
We are only 3 weeks out (I am two days older, May 6th) and I think we have to listen to the "full" signal and stop. Think about it, our stomachs are still probably a bit irritated and most importantly, why push it? Are you hungry? NUT told me to eat ONLY when I was hungry and STOP when I was full. She also said don't eat because you THINK you should be eating (ex: Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, you should eat something to kick your metabolism off first thing, etc.) I drink my Protein shake on the way to work because I am not suppose to have drinks at my desk and it has Vitamins in it that I am supposed to take. That is at 4am - I am generally not hungry until lunch (11am). Thirsty, yes. Hungry, no.

Type 1 Juvenile Diabetic getting sleeved.... Soooo Ready!
I am too new to give you a long term opinion. I was 'born a loser' on May 6th. I am three weeks on the other side. I haven't had any big issues other than trying to drink enough. Follow what your doctor tells you to the letter. I hope you get thru this and get the diabetes under control. I was headed that way. My A1C got to 5.6 and weight wasn't going away and I decided on my own to pursue the WLS. Wished I had done this a couple of years ago (the sleeve). I didn't want to RNY and I had the option of either lap-band or sleeve. I made the right choice for me!

Insure protein questions BEFORE they send off to insurance for approval
I decided to see if my insurance would pay for of the bariatric Protein stuff and went on-line and applied to see if I qualified. They called me and asked some questions which I answered. Then they called again, and again. Then they started emailing - saying they needed to get a couple of questions answered. I called them today and she said BEFORE they can send off for approval they want to know if I want to try these new products - why did I apply???? I filled out what I was interested in, before I had surgery. I was getting a phone call on my cell about every two to three days. I cant answer my phone at work. I told her today when they asked me about another new item BEFORE they can send off for approval to just REMOVE me from their records, I will buy my own stuff - Jeez. Sorry - had to vent, it is like telephone solicitors that you cant trace a number to block }:I
