  1. I really like the Isopure Naked whey. Other than making things cloudy it has no taste at all. Best of all it can be mixed with hot or cold beverages. It mixes easier with cold. When mixing with hot do not cook it. I take a small amount of warm Water and a whisk and slowly mix the powder in with a whisk. Once it is well mixed and smooth I add that to my warm beverage or Soup. I've also mixed it with yogurt and even water. No taste but it was cloudy and unpleasant to look at.
  2. You don't make that connection for them. You tell them so their little minds don't create imaginary issues much worse than what is actually happening. You don't tell your're fat and unable to lose weight so you have to have this surgery. Hopefully you are also setting an example with good eating habits and exercise so they never have to deal with WLS.
  3. Honestly it hasn't been that difficult for me. I eat pretty much the same things I ate before WLS just in smaller amounts.
  4. I would not recommend it. It's far too long in calories for a person not sleeved to maintain. Not only would I be concerned about starvation mode, I would worry that your body would not get the needed nutrients ( which is why so many of us also take supplements and vitamins), but also that eventually it would lead to a binge. There are other options: You could apply for the Affordable Healthcare. I believe currently they cover lap band and bypass surgeries. You can embark instead on a program of sensible eating and exercise. Just make sure you follow it regularly. Use one of the on line apps like Myfitnesspal or Sparkpeople to log your food and exercise. A good example of someone doing it the old fashioned way is Sweating Until Happy.
  5. There's a saying " You can't change someone's behavior, but you can change how you react to that behavior." You made the decision for you. Stop trying to convince him or change his mind. Don't let this be a constant source of arguing for you. Focus on following your program and doing well.
  6. Fruit & veggie diet? Sorry but that's crazy. I'm a vegetarian. I know for a fact you cannot lose that way. I work very hard to eat a balanced, plant based diet. I include beans, tofu and other non animal proteins. You need your protein. You don't need out help, you need to follow your program and that includes getting enough protein, exercising and getting in your fluids.
  7. I worked professionally as a CCLS. One of the rule we live by explain thing in the most simple way that's honest. A 4 year old doesn't need all the nitty gritty details. A simple Mommy's going to have the doctor fix her tummy will suffice. This way you can explain why you'll be gone for a day or 2 and why you can't pick him up and/or are a little sore. You can remind them that after a while you'll be much better.
  8. @@David Benjamin I'm only 5mths out but I started at a pretty high weight and have been losing consistently.
  9. @@nprcowboy I realize it's frustrating but you actually sound like you are where many of us were early on post op. Instead of comparing to your wife perhaps try viewing this as your reset. Imagine you are a few weeks post op. It may be slow going but I'm crossing my fingers this is your new starting point.
  10. It depends on the person. Most of mine were small but my drain and one other incision scar were pretty big and noticeable, not to mention the became raised and bumpy once they keloided.
  11. I completely agree with @CowgirlJane. I think stating that 99.9% of us are emotional eaters is a gross overstatement. I do think it an issue for many, but certainly not all. There are a myriad of reasons why someone may be morbidly obese. For me it was more a combination of disordered eating, health issues from my severe allergies and premature menopause. Whatever the reason is, you need to deal with it before WLS. The surgery is just a tool or jumping off point. Personally my goal is not to be thin. I want to be smaller and I want a BMI within normal range, but I want a strong, healthy body more than anything else.
  12. Scarfade gel. It worked on my shingles scars and has helped lessen my incision scars. I keloid so some of them were raised and bumpy. 5 months out and they are mostly flat.
  13. I don't know. I think I eat pretty much the same way I ate pre-WLS. Beans a veggie burgers always felt pretty dense to me and they certainly are filling.
  14. Because she's scared. She unfortunately has had problems with her WLS and that's tainted her viewpoint. I had friends tell me never to have WLS. One person we know died from byass surgery another has problems because of the malabsorption issue. Your body is not the same as hers. even with the sleeve some have easy times of it and some don't. If you feel this is right for you, you have to push those thoughts out of your mind and move forward with taking care of you.
  15. Surgery is a personal decision. However if as you say you are an emotional eater you may still need counseling to address those issues. You may also want to rethink your exercise plan. If car trouble derails your working out perhaps developing an at home workout plan might be a good idea. Personally speaking I am happy I had the sleeve. It has been an easy process and experience for me but not everyone has it as easy.
  16. Truvia is no better than any other artificial sweetener. It's not 100% stevia. It's processed to make it white and mixed with erythritol and "natural flavors".
  17. It depends on the person. I don't do any artificial sugars. I am allergic to them and stevia. I use Isopure Naked whey as my Protein powder. I use FAGE 0% Greek plain and add my own fruit. I do occasionally use real sugar, but my main sweetener of choice is raw honey. However I do not use it often. I might have honey 2 or 3 times a month. I cannot speak for anyone but myself. Processed foods and artificial sugars trigger my allergies and make me severely ill. You can eat a bariatric diet and not eat those products but it will be challenging. It is working for me. I have shown a loss everytime I go to the doctor.
  18. I don't have a typical day. It varies depending on my activities. Today is a light day because I didn't go to the gym. On non gym days I eat lighter and really watch my carbs. Breakfast was a scrambled egg with cheese and hot chocolate with a scoop of Protein powder. lunch was a scrambled egg with cheese and grits dinner will be a cup of soup and I'll probably add a scoop of Isopure naked to it. I may have an orange as a snack if I get hungry. On gym days I have a pre-gym Protein Drink with Fage 0% Greek yogurt, Protein Powder mixed with Water. Add in vary as to how I am feeling. Sometimes fruit, sometime a bit of cacao powder, sometimes almond butter, etc.... Lunch , then dinner. I try to have a salad with protein for dinner or a protein and a spinach for dinner. Afternoon snack are always optional if I am hungry. I am vegetarian so my Proteins are typically Beans, tofu, TVP and occasionally a non meat product like Beyond Meat or Gardein. I average 70 - 80gms of protein and day and try to keep carbs below 50.
  19. My doctor did not, but I already wear one. I'm planning to upgrade to include VSG info as soon as I finish figuring out how to fit everything on it!
  20. @@VonJuke - It depends on the person. I was fortunate enough to have a pain free, gas free, nausea free recovery. My abs felt like I had done a really strenuous workout the day before but that was it.
  21. Check with your nutritionist. I had macadamia nuts at one month with no problem, but I used almond butter in my protein drinks from day 1. I rarely eat PB.
  22. @@p3aCH3s - ask questions that are important to you. I specifically asked about plant based diets since I am a vegetarian. I also made them aware of my many food and medicine allergies to make sure that they could work around that. I also informed them that I preferred no blood transfusion in case of emergencies. My surgeon was able to ensure that none of these things would be an issue and developed plans to ensure that. I also stated my preferences not to eat heavily processed on imitation foods such as artificial sugars to both my surgeon and my nutritionist. Their willingness to work with me concerning these issues assured me that this was the right team for me.
  23. Are you still losing? Is your nutritionist aware of your schedule. Don't worry about sleep. I only get 5 hours a night. I would speak with your nutritionist and focus on not so much how many calories you are eating, but what you are eating. I agree you need may need more fuel for such a busy life but there may be a better way to get there. I think with some tweaking you could probably get between 900 -1000 calories and not feel hungry.
  24. Not a whole lot. Personally I find the Cheesecake factory a bit too much. I rarely go there. However since it s a tradition for you, I have found that the lunch portions are smaller than dinner portions. You could get a soup & salad entree. I order all salads with dressing on the side, hold the bred/croutons. Depending on location I may order off the child's menu. (Some place will allow that, some won't).
