  1. I did it on my own. I don't have little ones at home, just a cat. I was fortunate enough that I didn't have any pain post-op. I did all my prep and was able to tend to my cats feeding, litter box cleaning etc.... on my own. As for your spouse, it may be fear. As long as he doesn't sabotage you by trying to tempt you with foods you shouldn't have you should be fine.
  2. @@Eclectick - Try tea. I even like plain water with lemon heated up. You really need to play around with it and figure out a way to get more fluids in. Dilute it 50/50 apple juice if you have to. Otherwise you will get dehydrated. Not getting in enough fluids can also slow down your weight loss.
  3. I was told a combination of the following: I agree with @@ProjectMe I want this to work so I've been pretty compliant. What I have noticed now that I am 4mths out is that it's not uncomfortable to drunk following eating. I have caught myself doing so after eating. Now I just put the Water bottle away. If I have to get up and get the water it reminds me to wait at least 30 minutes.
  4. I didn't have a pre-op diet and I was on full liquids from day 1. I was allowed yogurt. I was just happy to expand my diet and not rely on protein shakes as much. Thankfully I haven't experienced any trouble with re-introducing food.
  5. Maybe stay on liquids for a week and try again. If you still can't keep anything down by then call the doctor back. Can you do diluted gatorade or broth?
  6. @@JennG25 - When they ask for your start date you let them know that you have a procedure scheduled for the 28th and won't be able to start until __________ date. Do not offer any other information.
  7. As long as it's just soreness your fine. Just keep an eye out that the incisions are warm to the touch and/or oozing. Mileage varies as to how much pain each individual experiences. Some have very mild pain. Some have more intense pain and need pain meds for the first week or so. As long as nothing appears infected you're okay.
  8. @@LM337 - Yes it's normal. You just gave birth to 85% of your stomach.
  9. @@PaulaleeB - I don't think you did horrible. You ate protein first and stopped when you were full. I always have left overs. Usually I bring them home and separate them into small meal sized portions. Don't beat yourself up so much.
  10. I'm probably around this range. I was down 55 at my last f/u about a month ago. I have an appointment on the 19th and I should get a weight update then. I think this rate is actually kind of in the middle. Not what I'd called extremely slow, but not super fast either. I'm actually okay with it because I'm hoping it will mean less skin sagging.
  11. It's a stall, everyone gets them. Not much you can do but keep following your program and ride it out.
  12. I didn't have a gastro consult. I did have an upper GI and chest xray. Perhaps they are want to discuss the results of your Upper GI testing. Do you have a hernia they need to repair as well?
  13. Squats. and yes there is a sub forum for exercise. If you look on the full version of the site, it's down near the bottom.
  14. AMEN! I sometimes feel like the oddball on this forum. I went into this with no qualms whatsoever. I had done my research. I followed my doctor's instructions to the letter and I was ready. Some small butterflies in my tummy day of surgery, but mostly just calmness. I had a smooth, easy surgery and no post-op pain to speak of.
  15. I was wondering what was happening. So sorry you're having a tough time of it. Just focus on staying hydrated. I hope you're over the worse of this.
  16. That's why it gets me. Hives and facial swelling like nobodies business. I have *really* bad sinusitis.
  17. I agree. I spent the 2 weeks prior to my surgery reading labels and buying samples. Fortunately I am neither lactose intolerant or allergic to dairy. I am vegetarian and allergic to red dyes, artificial sugars, seafood and stevia. You'd be surprised how many things have stevia .
  18. I'm not sure what you want. The rules are the same. Protein first, then veg, drink Water and exercise. You already know you need to stop eating unhealthy Snacks. There are no special trick or magical hacks. It's work each and every day for life. I don't know what follow up care is like at your center, mine offers f/u for 5 years out. It may help to contact them or at least find an in person support group.
  19. Laparoscopic surgeries are relatively easy. There's nothing to be afraid of.
  20. I'll chime in. I had a super easy time with surgery. I was one of those who experience no pain and only some soreness post -op. 1) Do you get dumping syndrome with the sleeve? - I have not. Some claim they have. From what I've read it's more a feeling that food is stuck in their chest but it's extremely uncomfortable. 2) Does the sleeve make osteoporosis worse?- That would be a question for the doctors, but I would assume as long as you stay on top of your calcium supplements it shouldn't make things worse. 3) What do you take for chronic pain (like arthritis or back pain) that works? - In general NSAIDS are not advised for bariatric patients because of concerns that it helps thin the stomach lining. You would need to work with your doctor around pain management 4) Do you suffer from Vitamin or mineral deficiency or poor nutrition from stomach being smaller? - No. I take Vitamins and supplements but my bloodwork was good pre-op and so far it's been fine post-op.
  21. Hang in there. Road testing proteins powders can be quite a trial.
  22. My insurance has a wellness component to it. I enrolled because it will cover my gym membership. Every so often the do things like have have a mobile mammography event and send alerts to it's members. So they had this thing where they would send nurse's out to do wellness check ups. I'm getting stuff done in the house so the alternative was to go to the local pharmacy's minute clinic. So Friday I go and this stupid nurse keep remarking about how she's surprised I don't have diabetes and am I sure. It was like she was wishing I had co-morbs or an illness other than my allergies. She kept asking about medications and sleep apnea. Once again she keeps says how she's surprised I don't have diabetes I looked her dead in the eye and said; "No I don't, you gotta problem with that!"
  23. I wish more people felt that way. Some people on this forum get offended if you mention counseling. Food addiction is a much a mental issue as it is a physical one.
  24. @@lucy0911 - ask if liquids would be an acceptable option. If you are allowed apple sauce or nut butter, you can try crushing them and mixing them in that. it may help mask the taste a bit.
  25. I have to say this surgery was by far the easiest thing I have ever done. This was easier than my complete hysterectomy. I would encourage you to start to love yourself now. Your body is not gross. Your body is beautiful. It brought 3 lives into this world. Contrary to what magazine would like us to believe there are no perfect people out there. Have this surgery to be healthy. To be the person you need to be in order to take care of your children. Love yourself for you.
