Summer Treats
I'm going to splurge on a new popsicle mold this summer. I make my own. I find that the summer fruits when in season can be pureed and set in a mold as is since they tend to be sweet enough on their own. Occasionally I may blend some greek yogurt for cream-sicles or switch it up and add whole berries to a puree to set. Like pureed kiwi with pitted and halved cherries. It looks pretty and taste great!

Almost backed out.
Welcome! Just remind yourself you did your research so you know what you're getting into. There's really no need to be worried as long as you follow your doctor's instructions.

When can i start working out?
6mths? I would double check. Unless you have problems I don't see why you couldn't resume weight training at 6 weeks.

When can i start working out?
I walked from day 1. My primary workout is water aerobics. I was cleared for the gym after 2 week, but I had to wait until week 3 to resume water aerobics.

Heartburn feeling after every sip!
Call the doctor and get a prescription for a PPI. It will make all the difference in the world when you can eat without your tummy burning. Also call the nurse or nutritionist back and have them review what you should be eating on your full liquid phase. Every program varies and what my team allowed on full liquids may not be what your team recommends.

Has anyone tried a waist trainer?
I considered getting one, but it's not what I want. I want to be strong and healthy all over so I'm sticking with compression garments for everyday and support garments for when I'm dressed in non gym clothes.

SEPTEMBER 2014 POST-OP SLEEVERS CHECKING IN!
Sleeved 9/18, down 74.4 lbs. as of today, just a little under 1lb from what was my personal targeted 6 mth goal. My f/u is on the 20th and I'm hoping to hit it by then. I still have a long way to go, but I'm moving in the right direction.

Dietician Meeting -- What questions would you ask?
Just make them aware of your allergies up front and show that you have done your homework. My allergic reactions vary from severe hive to anaphylaxis. I've had several ER treatments and one hospitalization that ended up with me intubated and placed in a medical coma for 4 days. I made sure they were aware of my history and because I had done my homework, I didn't have much of a problem with the nutritionist.

Need help getting started in Illinois
Start with reviewing your insurance policy. I'm pretty sure Aetna has it posted online, or pull out your manual and look up bariatric surgery. This will tell you what types of bariatric surgery they cover. They should also have a listing of approved providers. Pick 2 or 3 (I recommend choosing at least 2 if possible). Call them and find out what is required of them. If possible attend and informational seminar. Take a pad and pencil. Some people also take a close family member. This depends on the family member's views on WLS. You need someone who is supportive, not a negative Nelly. Once you have looked at 2 different surgeons/programs, then you can decide which one is for you and what type of surgery is for you. Currently the major ones are lap band, gastric sleeve or gastric bypass. There are a few others, but these are the major ones. Currently the sleeve is the most popular. Once you make have that first appointment with the bariatric program, they will pretty much guide you through the rest of the process. My own personal recommendations are: Start an exercise program. Even if you just walking for 30 minutes everyday. If you are smoking, quit. Start keeping a food journal. It will make you more aware of what you are eating. If you drink soda, cut back and prepare to quit. Some people do go back to drinking soda, but initially post-op it will be a no-no. If you drink coffee, cut back and prepare to quit at least temporarily. (this varies doctor to doctor) Some of us can resume eventually but for some it cause acid in the tummy.

Perplexed. Surgeon says no such thing as a "stall"
@@kndoster - You didn't actually have a stall. You lost weight, it just wasn't as big a weight loss as the previous appt. That said it's not uncommon to have a smaller loss after that first weight loss. Think about what played a part in that first loss; you had surgery which removed part of your belly and then needed to readjust to eating/drinking again. Most of us eat or drink very little during that period. At my 2 week f/u I had lost 26lbs, yet at my 6 week f/u I had only lost another 6lbs. I do believe there can be periods where people are doing right and not losing. However I am not a daily or even weekly weigher so I personally have never experienced it. I only get weighed once a month or when I see the doctor. Whether small or large, I have always shown a loss. Honestly as long as the scale is moving in the righ direction, I'm not gonna complain.

Dietician Meeting -- What questions would you ask?
@@naenae85 - Thankfully I didn't have a liquid pre -op diet. I only had to make it through 2 weeks of full liquids so I could be a little more flexible. I mixed the plain powder with diluted apple juice or almond milk. I also used my nutra bullet and added cacao powder or almond butter. I found I could tolerate sucralose in small doses so I occasionally used CVS vanilla flavored whey Protein. I ate a LOT of FAGE 0% greek yogurt that I would blend with fruit in the nutra bullet. I drank loads of Kefir and I made bean Soup with pureed black Beans and veg broth strained to make sure all the skins were removed.

1 week post op protein problems....
It's not usual to feel tired this soon after surgery. This is why it is advised to take at least 2 weeks off. Some of us bounce back quickly, others don't. There really isn't anyway to tell beforehand. Hopefully you are still taking your Vitamins and supplements. If protein powders are a challenge, focus on at least getting in your fluids. If you get dehydrated you will feel worse. Lastly keep calling your doctor's office. You need to touch base with him if you are feeling poorly. The noises will go away eventually. Some tummies just like to gurgle. You should be following your nutritionist recommended diet. If cheese and pureed Soups is on your menu then enjoy! I was having cheese and pureed soups within the first 2 weeks because it was allowed on my full liquid stage. I have yet to have a problem eating/drinking anything. I agree Genepro appears to be using some sort of pseudo science. I know it's popular, but I would personally shy away from it.

Need some quick responses
I agree, but part of this we need to take responsibility for ourselves. Some of us for whatever reason have self esteem issues. I never felt like I wasn't cute or worthy. I was fortunate enough to have friends who liked me for me. I wasn't treated any differently than my slimmer friends. Sure I occasionally ran into people outside of my circle, and yes occasionally they were unkind. However I never tolerated ill treatment so those sorts of encounters were few and far between. I do not broadcast every event in my life so the circle of people I have told is small. My entire family has been very supportive. The one person I was worried about was my mother. To minimize any flack from her I told her literally 2 days before surgery. So whether you give a long answer, a snappy comeback or a polite answer do so apologetically. This is your life and you are responsible for making it a happy one.

Does everyone meet their protein goal every day?
Since you know the milk & protein powder works perhaps try increasing the amount of protein powder you use. Go slow, maybe add a ¼scoop more. If it's too thick you can add ice or a bit of Water. You might want to look at meat alternatives. Some people aren't able to tolerate meat right away. One of the things I did on the full liquids stage was make a bean soup. I pureed black Beans, then thinned it out with a bit of vegetable broth. Before eating I would strain it to remove any skins or bits that hadn't pureed enough. Not only was it a nice bit of protein, it was also a welcome break from all the sweet protein shakes. If I added a dollop of plain greek yogurt, it felt a bit like sour cream and added more protein to boot.

Face moisturizer suggestions? And dry skin in general -- lotion suggestions?
I have to admit in the winter I am not as obsessive about sunblock as I am in the spring/ summer. I do use a foundation with SPF protection year round but in the summer I use regular sunblock either over my moisturizer if I am barefaced or instead of a moisturizer if I am wearing foundation.

Help! Incision is opening surgeon useless
Both alcohol and peroxide are no-no's. Just use warm water and a mild non perfumed soap along with the meds your PCP prescribe. Contrary to popular opinion they are actually more harmful to healing tissue.

Does everyone meet their protein goal every day?
@@Graciesmom04 - one other suggestion when I mix Isopure with a hot beverage or soup I find it best to temper it in. What I do is take a ½tbsp of warm Water and slowly whisk in the Protein powder a little at a time. At the same time I will have the coffee/tea brewing or the soup cooking. Once the protein powder is completely mixed with the water, I turn the fire off on soup and then slowly stir the liquefied protein powder into soup. This way the protein doesn't clump and the soup remains hot.

Help! Incision is opening surgeon useless
As did mine but as I mentioned my surgeon took them off at my one week visit that was not my decision but his as the one who did the surgery. I was also strictly instructed to not put any type of alcohol or peroxide on the skin as it breaks it down and does not promote healing. I was also swabbed for infection and it is not infection, it is not oozing nor has it ever, I have no fever, and it is not warm to the touch. My surgery was also over two weeks ago and this just started happening. And my PCP is the one I went to, did you read my original post before commenting or what? I was told the same thing about peroxide. I think it's just going through an ugly phase. Try not to worry since you don't have any other negative issues occurring.

Does everyone meet their protein goal every day?
Make the most of what you can have. In the morning add your yogurt to the Protein shake. You've now gotten 37 grms in first thing in the morning. You can have more yogurt at lunch if that's what you can tolerate. So that's another 15 bringing your total to 52gms and it's only lunch time. At that point pretty much anything you can tolerate will get you to 60gms. I don't like to eat heavy at dinner time. A scoop of Isopure unflavored mixed into a cup of Soup satisfies me. If you could do that you'd get another 26gms of protein plus whatever protein is in the soup. That would put you at close to 80 gms by dinner.
