wantingabetterlife got a reaction from SkinnyDown in How did you know?
I was sleeved in November 2014. I'm 5'6" and I set my goal at 150. I am at 156 and have been for about 4 weeks now. I have been running and exercising more too. My body has changed quite a bit in the past month but the scale is the same. I think it is quite happy here at this weight! But PLEASE remember, everyone is different and everyone loses at different rates. Some are super fast losers and some are slower. Keep the big picture in mind.....you will lose the weight you need to lose at your own pace....stalls and all I wish you the best on your journey!

My doctor told me I was a walking time bomb and it scared me. I knew my health was getting worse because of co-morbidities (High BP, High Cholesterol, Type II Diabetes) but when she said those words to me, I knew I had to make a change. I can happily say that all of them are now gone and I only take Nexium and my Vitamins. Life is much better now!

You are doing a great job!! Just remember how far you have come....not how long the journey may be. The scale may be in my favor right this moment but I am still struggling to work through body dysmorphic issues. I can't see the smaller me when I look in the mirror. We each have so many struggles (support from loved ones, stalls, hair loss, saggy skin, etc) and like you said, so many on here understand! It keeps me from pulling out what's left of my already thinned hair

Well, at my most successful weight loss in my 40's I got down to 129lbs. It didn't last long, but I felt great. So 130 is my first goal, which would be a 87lbs loss. And if I can get down to 120lbs, which would be my ultimate goal, that would be a 97lbs loss.
But as I'm older, and my metabolism is slower, I'm going to reserve the final judgement based on how I "feel" as opposed to a specific number on the scale.

I flew from San Diego to Tampa with a connection in Dallas. My husband had called the airline and arranged for assistance for me through the airline. When I checked in at San Diego, they had an airline employee waiting with a wheelchair for me. They took me through security and directly to my gate. I was allowed to board first and they put my bag in the overhead for me. When I had my connecting flight, there was a wheelchair waiting at the plane door for me. They took me to my next gate and followed the same sequence. When I got to Tampa, my husband grabbed my bag and they took me right to the car. I had quite a few health problems prior to surgery and all that walking would have worn me out. I was so thankful that he contacted them for me. I had planned on being a trooper and doing it all on my own. Based on the distances of the gates, I am glad I didn't have to!

I debated keeping them just in case I fell off the wagon and gained weight again. Then I realized I was sabotaging myself and donated them to charity. I told myself that I will never wear those sizes again and there was no need to keep them.

I can relate to your feelings. I have not had the surgery yet, but recently approved. I do question myself all of the time if this is the right thing. I know that if I could just eat less on my own and follow the same diet plan as the one post-op I could lose weight. So why am I going to have the surgery. I have beat myself up over it. But I have finally come to the conclusion that if it was that easy to do on my own without the tool of the surgery I would have done it a long time ago. I am fearful of many of your same concerns, but I know that I have to do it. I have tried many times before and been successful for short periods of time, but not sustained any lasting weight loss. My prayer is that the surgery will be a tool to help me get the weight off quicker, but not too quickly and that I will learn some lasting new healthy eating behaviors to keep it off the rest of my life. I have so much I want to do, but my weight holds me back. Just think of all of the things losing weight will allow you to do that you could not do before. Stay positive. I know it will be worth it for you and for me and for all of us who are going down this path.
