I didnt see one doctor for about 6 months. When he saw me he screamed my name and gave me a big bear hug in the waiting room yelling how amazing I looked. Mind you I was about 80lbs down, but firmly in the 300s. But it made my month. He was so good about pushing me in a really good way to do something about the weight.

My son came home from getting his Master's degree abroad. He had been out of the country for 20 months. I didn't tell him about the surgery. We had face time and pictures throughout that time, but I guess he didn't notice the changes taking place. When we met him at the airport, I started waving while a little distance away and he kept looking past me, didn't even realize it was me until he was about six feet away! What a startled expression he had on his face!

Chai tea lattes, whether from Starbucks, independent coffee houses or my own Keurig, I have to be careful not to "treat" myself too often. I can see this developing into a very bad habit, and yes, I do feel guilty about consuming them, but they are quite pleasurable.

    @@Inner Surfer Girl,
I can absolutely relate. I spent a few years refusing to be weighed (once I found out I didn't have to comply). I always said " I weigh every day, if the Doctor wants to know I will tell her". Had some nasty smirks from some of the MA's. Now I don't care if I have to get on the scale, and my Primary Doc thinks I am doing great. This is one of the blessings of WLS in my opinion.

Boy have I learned a lot on this forum. Since I don't attend a support group ( too inconvenient location) this is the place where I go to stay on task. Where would I be if people didn't post honest/ whether you like it or not opinions and facts here? I always knew when reading things from you, Babs, VSGAnn, Kindle, Elode and so many others that I could trust the information contained in the post. I am so disappointed when people who are willing to give good advice whether pleasant or not are pilloried by those who only want to hear what they want to hear.

I did every diet under the sun....just like most people here. This tool makes it completely different. I'm not ever hungry and sometimes need to remind myself to eat. Most of the time my eyes are still bigger than my stomach when I fix my plate as I'm very rarely able to finish it......so not only do I love my sleeve, my little dog loves it too!!! I agree with what everyone else has said, it's really not about willpower.....although there is a lot of adjustments you have to do. You really have to educate yourself of the right foods to eat so you're not lost wondering what you should eat. That to me is the good part about the length of time it takes to get qualified for surgery, it gives you time to learn.
    Good luck to you!!

Yep, know the feeling of the appetite increasing. I'm in the process of discovering that the honeymoon period is well and truly over. I was ravenous yesterday but had walked 7 miles so wasn't surprised. I am really making sure that I get the Protein in, plus veg and some fruit but I am staying away from bread, potatoes, Pasta and rice. I do eat full fat dairy produce and make my own fruit yoghurts from lots of mixed berries, a squirt of honey and some lovely thick Greek yoghurt. Much more filling than the shop bought versions. What I have found is, that on s couple of occasions when I have thrown common sense to the wind and eaten too much, I have felt so physically sick and disgusting that I know that my sleeve is working.
I feel amazing having lost 67lbs (although the last 17 to get to goal are proving so much harder to shift) and my BMI is now normal at 24. I walk at least five miles every day and I am making sure that my average speed is increasing slowly so that I am not just dawdling along. I'm 60 on Friday and am off to do my first ballet class in 25 years. I used to be a dancer so reckon I should stick to what I know to strengthen my core. Also, I know the teacher and used to do his classes when I was professional. He only teaches old dears now sob thankfully so won't expect too much from me!

    http://www.webmd.com/diet/obesity/ss/slideshow-obesity-weight-loss-tips
Most of the tips are well-known to most of us, but bear repeating.
    Two items are particularly useful.
#9: Don't berate yourself for slipping on a banaana peel.

#10: Working out workout routines with a physical therapist is a good idea, especially if one has a mobility or other issue. Solid knowledge of musculature, bones and nerves is part of a physical therapist's training. The basic certified physical trainer has no knowledge of special needs.

It's refreshing that surgery is one of the possibilities suggested.

Good to know, thanks for sharing. I'd like to try that soon, as I haven't lost any pounds for 4 months. My dietician was unconcerned as I haven't gained any weight for 6 months. She pretty much said I am healthy so be satisfied with what I have lost. But now you have me thinking...............

Once the decision has been made all is a go. That was the easy part! Now the hard work of dealing with all of it for the rest of your life. No different then dealing with it all before the sleeve or bypass. Except you will be thin and healthy. It is a life long fight that will have losses and gains literally! And yes we may loose some battles but the war is ours...
Good luck with your choice and don't be hard on yourself. How you dealt with coming to this decision was natural.....
