Djmohr got a reaction from Brit in Oz in Anypne stuck with weight loss ? Day 29
Almost everyone stalls. For me, I stall a lot and then things start moving again, also a couple of days would not be considered a stall.
In the beginning weeks following surgery you lose quickly and then somewhere around week 3 your body takes a breather. This is perfectly normal and can last a few days and sometimes even a few weeks. It is simply your body wondering what the heck is going on before it releases more fat.
This will happen over and over and will get longer and more common the closer you get to goal.
The best thing you can do is simply stay the course. Follow your food and exercise plan that the doc gave you. The stall will break.
This can make people who weigh frequently a little bit crazy. I have always weighed myself once a day first thing in the am. I have to get my head in the right frame of mind to realize I am not going to lose weight every single day. When I get into a stall, and have lost nothing for a week or 10 days I stay off the scale for a while.
Give yourself a break! I am sure you are doing fantastic!
    Congratulations on your surgery!

I am with you on the cravings thing. I still crave some things that I did before surgery, that has never gone away. I would say in the first 10 months post op, i did not crave the bad stuff and there were instances where I tasted the Peanut Butter cup and it was gross.
Now 28 months post op, I do crave some of the sweet stuff and even some of the breads. But honestly if I eat them, they just are not that good. I would much rather have some pepperoni or cheese. That being said, i tried enough of it over the holidays that I gained 7lbs.....and now I need to take control again. Ugh.....
I do not like the idea of snapping back to a higher set point even though my body is leading me there. My goal was 165, I made it down to 158 and I was not comfortable there. To me, I felt almost boney in parts of my body but I loved being 165, now I am keep moving between 167 and 169. I DO NOT want to even see 170 or I might lose it. LOL.

Djmohr got a reaction from defibvt in 3 more months?
First I was told 3 months supervised diet, then my insurance at the time required the following:
6 months supervised diet with physician or qualified nutritionist
Had to use a Bariatric Center of Excellence
    Phyche eval
sleep study or in my case latest history from bi-pap
    EDG study
    Cardiac Clearance
The whole process actually took 9 months and at the time I was told 6 months I was very ill with kidney disease. It did not matter and I can remember being both pissed and scared to death all at the same time. I wanted to do it right away.
I am so very glad that I had that time to prepare myself. The classes and research I did was instrumental in my success so far. I likely would have chosen the wrong surgery and would not have had the time to build excellent habits. It allowed me to focus on small changes and follow them through.
I still believe that the most important habit I built was tracking absolutely every thing I put in my mouth. I know exactly where my Protein, calories and carbs are from the moment I take that first meal in the am. I use myfitnesspal and I track it good or bad. It allows me the opportunity to know what is in my food and to make better decisions throughout the day. I definitely make better choices because of this and I also have such an excellent understanding of nutrition because of it.
People think it takes so much time, it literally takes just a moment or two and your food is logged. In the beginning I used to measure everything, over time you learn how much a couple of ounces of meat or a real 1/2 cup of cottage cheese.
Also, learning to pay attention to my body while eating was an important tool as well. I used to mindlessly eat and of course when you pay attention you actually savor the food you do eat and can recognize when you are full.
Many good habits to learn and you need the time to truly make them habits which will set you up for success.
    Best of luck to you!

I am two years post op. It is very easy for me to put on a few pounds and difficult to get it back off.
Thankfully I have been so paranoid about it that i simply gain and lose the same 6 pounds over and over.
I pray that as i get many more years out, that i find my groove. It looks like i had RNY a month before you.
I was able to get to goal and even lost a few pounds more but yes, maintaining for me is the hardest work of all.

My Bariatric nurse and nutritionist have told me the same thing. Their rule of thumb is 1 gram of Protein for every 1 inch you are tall.
When I first has surgery, it was confusing to me that my Protein goals were much lower than many on this site some of them well over 100 grams.
I went back many many times asking that specific question and like you was given a goal much closer to 70 daily and for me that is really important because I have a history of chronic kidney disease. I have asked, is that my goal because I have had kidney disease or would that be my goal regardless. I have been told regardless, 1 gram for every 1 inch.
They just reiterated that I should not head above those numbers ever for me but if I was just anyone else without kidney disease I would still be told 70 grams because I am 70 inches tall.
Mine also has from day 1 said. I don't believe in protein first. I believe in balance because it sets you up for maintenance. 2 bites of protein for every 1 bite of good carbs like veggies and fruit.< /p>
I have been eating that way since day 1 and so far it is working for me.
It can all be so confusing!

I would ask you how YOU feel about your appearance. The reason I ask is because many times we feel a certain way and then read more into comments than what is there.
If you feel great about how you look, then that rubs off on others. If you yourself feel like you are too skinny that may be part of the problem.
It takes a long time and sometimes we need help getting through such a significant change.
You have been married a very long time. I am guessing your husband is thrilled that you are now healthy and if that means you are no longer thick, he will Love you regardless.
We are all so hard on ourselves......Initially when some folks were telling me I was too skinny, it really did freak me out a litttle. It took some time for me to understand that they simply were not used to seeing us at a NORMAL size.
My husband is obese and has always been comfortable with women who have some meat on their bones. For him, he is most excited about how I feel and because of that He is thrilled for me. On Halloween we will be married 29 years. I was obese 27 of those 29 years.
The only bummer for both of us is how much loose skin there is but I decided I wanted in particular to have my breasts fixed. It is both for me and for him as that is always his favorite body part......LOL.
I have always said, I would rather have the loose skin than the fat and the scars vs the loose skin.
Anyway, my point is you might be overly critical of yourself and so you read more into comments made by others.
I get the no butt thing all the time....but I actually find it rather funny.

I would bet it is absolutely head hunger. It makes it worse if you are watching tv commercials for the food channel.
You will have to work at distracting yourself, unfortunately head hunger is the thing that I fight most even now 28 months later.
I knit, crochet, read, play on my ipad, take a shower, do the dishes.....anything to take my mind off it and it usually works.

No offense taken whatsoever. I have seriously walked into a room full of people who know me and they did not know me. I had to tell them who I was so i get it.
I have learned to have my husband with me these days because if he is with me, they sometimes make the connection. Even then, he has had someone pull him aside and ask where his wife is. LOL.
    I am ok with it.

This week some friends from a previous job posted a picture that we all took together 3 years ago (9months before I had bypass). I am the one with dark hair o the right side hiding behind the guy with the santa hat and the lady with the reindeer antlers.

I was at my heaviest which was 315 lbs and barely able to work any longer. When my husband saw this post, he too said I never saw you were that big. It was quite shocking when I shared the photo with my family members.
I have not seen these folks in about 2.5 years and many of them have no idea that I lost all of my weight. A few are on Facebook and have seen my cover photo. Of course when they did many reached out, some with lots of questions.
Anyway, I thought I would share my now picture.....In 3 weeks I am having plastics to deal with loose skin. I am having a complete abdominalplasty with muscle repair, a breast lift with augmentation. I am looking forward to when the swelling will go down and I can repost after pictures then.
For now, here is an after picture.

Keep in mind that every surgeon has a different post op plan and hers might include soft foods like cottage cheese and scrambled eggs. And who knows.....toast might be on there too! Or bacon and oreos......like I have seen others post about.
And cottage cheese...I still eat it nearly daily.

For me, I could not get out of them fast enough. About 6 months post op I walked into a Lucky Brand Jean store thinking I would just try a pair for fun and was shocked when I found that a 14 was too big and had to move to a 12 and then ultimately an 8.
They are the only jeans I buy. They are soft, and have movement to them. the more you wear them, the softer they get.
I was thrilled to cut up my Lane Bryant card. I still get mail from them and love to run it through the shredder. LOL

I had a full brachioplasty in July and then will be having a full TT, Breast lift with augmentation on January 19th. My surgeon asked that i separate mine like this and the arm lift was the most important for me so i had it done first.
I know alot of folks who had both arm lift and tt at the same time.
I am glad I didn't mostly because you cannot use your arms to lift yourself up so i used my abdominal muscles and leg muscles to get up and down. Not sure how i would have managed it.
Anyway, glad that i had my arms done, they look awesome but it was very painful for me. Lots of burning and itching. I am hoping my breasts don't feel like my arms did but am prepared for anything at this point.
I am worried about the pain in the next phase but excited for the gratification!
    Best of luck to you!

I think there are a few of us having plastics in January. My TT, breast lift with augmentation is 3 weeks from today.
Everyday I get a little more nervous. Having had brachioplasty in July, I struggled with burning, searing and itching for 3 straight weeks before it stopped. We beleive I had an allergy to the mesh bandages which are glued on. I do have allergies with some adhesives so it makes sense.
This time we are going to use a different solution and hopefully that itching will not be as bad. I cannot imagine what it will feel like if my nipples itch like that. I literally took cat naps for 3 weeks. As soon as they removed the mesh, the itching stopped. I slept with ice packs on both arms for many weeks.
I am very nervous but at the same time so excited to get rid of this gross hanging skin on my tummy and looking forward to getting my girls back. LOL.

Djmohr got a reaction from fly-high in How much weight did you lose after your tummy tuck?
I would love to know this as well. I am 23lbs from goal. I plan to wait for plastics until I am 2 years post op and my weight stabilizes.
I set my goal on the top end of the healthy BMI for someone my height and bone structure. As I talk to people like my hubby and a few others all of them keep asking if I will get too thin if I get to goal and then have plastics because when I have my brachioplasty, lower body lift, breast augmentation and abdominalplasty that should remove even more weight.
Although I know I still have some to lose, I wonder if I set my goal too low given the plan for plastics. There are parts of my body that have no fat left and other parts like my arms, tummy and thighs where there is still fat.
    Has anyone run into this?

When I saw this topic I could feel my blood pressure rise. LOL!
It irks me when I see or hear people say this, especially on TV or magazines. They have absolutely NO idea how hard we work to get healthy nor do they understand that obesity is a metabolic disease.
There is such a small percentage of people who are successful long term losing weight and ultimately keeping it off. I believe it is less than 5%.
Honestly, this is frustrating. The medical community outside of bariatric teams are somewhat clueless about it too. If only they would do better education maybe the public would understand that it is a metabolic disease and to cure it long term surgery is really the best option.
UGH......just adding to your rant. LOL!
