  1. Go with your gut on this and find a different center of excellence that will focus on you, not the number of sleeve surgeries they can get in. You will be so much happier with your decision. I am with you regarding this psych. What a jerk! I would definately not trust him. Good luck to you and please keep us posted. This is a big decision and you need to be 100 percent comfortable with your team.
  2. Hooray! Isn't it a fantastic feeling when you know your dream is about to become a reality! Congratulations! Keep us posted on your progress!
  3. I would be very concerned with both what you are eating and how much of it at this stage. I know others have already said this but: 1. Focus on dense Proteins. chicken, turkey, beef, pork, fish 2. Stay away from carbs at this point unless you can follow the 2 bites of dense Protein for every one bite of vegetables plan. You may be getting too many because it would be hard to believe you could eat 1 1/2 cups dense protein. No Pasta, bread, crackers, sweets and also stay away from casseroles and prepackaged foods. Cook your food fresh if you are not already. 3. No drinking with your meals. Follow this rule to a tee or you could be flushing what you are eating 4. 3 protein rich meals per day 5. If you are hungry in between meals have a Protein shake or an 8 oz. cup of milk. They are filling and will take care of hunger which you should not be feeling at this point. Otherwise an ounce of cheese or jerkey but milk is your best bet. 5. Measure everything 6. Track your food intake starting immediately using something like Myfitnesspal 7. Speak with your surgeon about why you are able to eat so much at this stage. I am nearly 12 months post op and other than salad barely come close to a cup. If it is dense protein I am lucky to fit 2/3 ounces in before becoming uncomfortable. If I were in your situation I would reset using the pouch test and start fresh. Good luck to you!
  4. I started taking Tylenol immediately after surgery as long as I did not take the liquid hydro codons they gave me.
  5. @@Cervidae You are actually doing fantastic! I wish we could all lose 3lbs in a week and a half. You have to give yourself a break. The reality is you did not put on all this weight in a month or two and it will take time to lose it all. Some weeks you will do better than others. I seriously wish I could lose 3 lbs in a week right now. The reality is the further out you get and the closer you get to goal the slower the weight loss happens. The good news is, every pound lost is one you won't see again. You really are doing fantastic and you are likely losing inches. The scale is not the most important tool.
  6. Woot woot! I am so very happy for you. I know that at times we hit bumps in the road but the best thing you can do for yourself is stay positive. That will always take you through the next bump, and yes you will have them. Congratulations on getting through one of the roughest parts and losing 50lbs in one month is absolutely amazing!
  7. First of all, you are losing which means you are not stalled. A stall means no weight lost and even some gain. 8lbs in 3 weeks is actually great! Keep in mind as you move forward the weight loss slows way down. I am lucky if I lose 8/10 lbs per month, and I do mean lucky. Even though crackers, bread and potatoes are approved just know that the carbs in them can in fact slow down weight loss. Try avoiding them for the next couple weeks and see if it helps speed things up for you.
  8. @@slvarltx Wow! You are lucky that your metabolism is so high and your weight seems to be coming off rapidly. I do understand you're concern. I would suggest talking to your nut if you are truly worried about losing too much weight. Have you considered your goal may be too high? From what I understand our bodies will adjust and stop when they are ready to for the most part. I know you are going off your old military weight but I am also guessing your body makeup might have been different at that time. Muscle weighs more than fat. Have you looked at the healthy weight scales for men your height? It might give you some guidance if you are interested in understanding your healthy weight. I do understand that you also may not be comfortable at a weight so low but it is just a thought. I ended up using the high end of the scale for me as a goal but honestly the closer I get, I wonder if that might be thinner than I would like. The reason I am using that number is everyone should e left some regain so I want to make sure I have room for that to happen. Just a thought, you have to do what is right for you. I would definately talk to your nutritionist.
  9. I am so very sorry that this has happened! It just isn't fair but please please please don't give up. There has to be another way for you. The other thing you might want to consider is buying a health plan that includes bariatric surgery for a few months. It will be less expensive than self pay, they will likely accept your 6 months of supervised diet. And of course they are not allowed to deny you because of preexisting conditions. It might really be worth looking into. I had to do something similiar just to make sure my spine surgery and specific surgeon was in network for me. He is actually in a whole other state. It was totally worth it for me to be able to have peace of mind and work with someone I trust. It was a lot less expensive for me than paying out of pocket. Hugs!
  10. See, these are the fun cool things we all get to experience! Congratulations!!! Wait until you can sit like a pretzel....and yes it's coming! One day you will notice some of the crazy things you can do.
  11. You are also only 4 months along. I promise it will slow down the closer you get to goal and you'll wish you would see this kind of loss again. Also, it all depends on how much you have to lose. And of course there will likely be other stalls.
  12. I adore my husband, he is a big guy and definately needs to lose some weight if he wants to remain healthy. He suffers from AFIB but had an ablation twice to correct it. So far he has only had a couple of episodes. Anyway, he eats like crap all the time and then when he has a blip with his heart he freaks out and asks me to help him. The problem is he really is a food addict. A junk food addict. I am a great cook and I focus on good Proteins and good carbs. For lunch I am always making something for myself that he could eat but chooses to run to mcDonalds. I have noticed myself getting outright angry with him because he tells me I have to help him. I get him on track and he does well until something comes up outside of the house, then instead of simply indulging a little for that one meal, he gives up completely and we start over again when he is ready. Honestly I am tired of him asking for help and then not doing his part. He is due for his physical at the end of the month and knows his doctor is going to scold him, so guess what. He needs my help to get back on track. He went to the ball games with friends tonight. He ate crap at the game and then picked up McDonald's on the way home. I try not to get frustrated with him but I am actually finding myself really nagging lately. I decided tonight that I am not going to say anything and when he asks for help again, I am going to provide my nutritionists info. He is very proud and amazed at how well I have done so I don't understand what the issue is. He was going to have bypass with me and backed out of it.
  13. You should not have any problem with this. It will be more difficult than you think to lower your BMI below 40 that quickly. Also once you have the authorization I have never heard of it getting pulled because you lost too much weight on the preop diet. Also you will likely gain all that you lost on the preop diet back in the hospital. It is very common from all the fluids they pump into you. I would not worry about this at all.
  14. I am so sorry you are struggling! I would guess that we will all struggle with the maintenance phase at some point and I know when it happens to me, I will use the pouch test to help me. I have not tried the pouch test at this point but have to imagine it would be harder than one thinks. I think if I had to, I would drill it into my head that I am on a preop diet and need to follow it. Tell myself I am having surgery in a few days. It would help me stay on track. I am always reaffirming things for myself which helps me achieve my goals. Not sure if this helps or not, you have to find what will work for you. Good luck and keep us posted.
  15. By the way, that feeling of hunger is likely dehydration. You should not be feeling actual hunger right now, I think it is near impossible. Dehydration mimics hunger pangs and could be causing some of your symptoms.
  16. I agree with Amazon. Start with dinner, order your wine but don't drink it until 30 minutes after you have finished eating. Have your wine for dessert.
  17. Congratulations on having a safe surgery! I hope that all continues to go really well for you. My experience was similar and other than waking up with some pain and having that initial gas pain I got better and better every day. All the best and don't ever forget to sip liquids like crazy, it is the most important thing you can do for your self (I say as I am sipping my morning water)!
  18. Sending prayers for a safe surgery and speedy recovery! Congratulations and welcome to the losers club!
  19. You would actually have to ask your insurance company the specifics but I am guessing as long as you show that history of obesity you will likely qualify. Do you have any comorbitities like diabetes my high blood pressure, high cholesterol or sleep apnea? Those will help as well.
  20. Not really a suggestion but you will likely get that same headache on and off for a week. The good news is. Once you get through it you will feel a lot better. Hang in there!
  21. Oh yes! I am nearly 12 months out and my hips, legs and back are in severe pain every day. I hope if I am adjusting it happens soon. On a good note me knees feel better.
  22. Hmmm. I might have to give it a try. I am allergic to most artificial sweeteners however recently tried using Swerve. I swear my tongue actually went numb. I usually won't even try them but I was attempting to make those Peanut Butter Cookies with 4 ingredients and no flour. They sucked and I had to throw the whole batch away.
  23. 1. First, The constipation has to be the worst! 2. I have only tossed my Cookies (no not actual cookies) twice, both from eating too much. The first time it happened I made it to the bathroom. The second time it happened I just had spine surgery and could not jump up and run so my husband raced to the kitchen and came back with the smallest to go container I have ever seen! I laughed even though I was about to throw up and said "what the hell am I going to do with this?!" I then proceeded to throw up and did not even come close to filling it up! LOL!
  24. It is definately up to you and how you build new eating habits. Every surgery has the regain risks so you literally have to be willing to change your life to be successful long term. I will say for me, that after working so darn hard this last year, I will do everything in my power not to have that happen. I cannot imagine watching the scale go in the wrong direction and not doing something about it immediately. I have learned exactly what I need to do to lose this much weight and it is no picnic. My new stomach certainly makes it all achievable.
  25. Yes, there definitely is such a thing as too much Protein. The rule of thumb that I have been told over and over is 1 gram for every inch you are tall. I am 70 inches so I should be shooting for 70 grams. Now, I have kidney disease so I do have to be careful. I shoot for 75 to 80 grams max per day and I know I will be ok. However I will say that I have seen my BUN levels creeping up so I have to watch it closely.
