I am anxious and excited. Headed to Vegas on Friday. After 30 years of going there at least twice per year, we have made many friends. I have not seen them nor have they seen me since 10 weeks after surgery. Many don't know and I am somewhat unrecognizable. Looking forward to seeing them, have to decide what I share and what i don't. It will be fun though, it is vegas afterall!

LOL. 25 red! You got it. I am certain they will be happy for me. My husband is the one that freaked me out a little. He reminded me that some of them probably won't recognize me. I am fine sharing my story and you are right it would be harder if I had not lost the weight. Plus, I got some great new outfits to wear!

15 days until my Plastics....getting a little nervous but really excited too! Cannot wait until I no longer have to stuff myself into spanks and a bra. LOL

I cannot wait until Christmas is over. The kids are here and I had no sweets in my house because if I do, I will eat them. So tonight they wanted something sweet and it is snowing. So, we made a homemade dessert with graham cracker crust, cream cheese, whip cream, fresh cherry compote and drizzled the top with chocolate. Just what I did not need in my house. Now, I am sitting here with a full belly and racing heart. And yes....i know i could have passed but i just had a small portion and was good the rest of the day. UGH......

I am excited....My sweet granddaughter's birthday is thursday, she will be 13. She has been begging for a laptop for the last 1.5 years. She is an Apple kid and those darn laptops are expensive. Well, they went on sale sunday at Best Buy. Hubby and I decided it was time so we bought her a MacBook Air. We all told her that was not going to happen. The package arrived today in the mail but we wont let her open it until thursday. She is so excited, she has called me no less than 5 times tonight. I am excited for her.

That's so awesome @Djmohr.

We got great news today! We found out Tuesday my SIL was NOT a candidate for liver because she was too unhealthy to make it through transplant. Well, Today her own liver is showing signs of improvement! They think that if her liver gets healthy enough, her kidneys may begin to function again. She is also awake, alert and may be able to come off the vent. Thanks so much for all of your prayers! Someone is really watching out for her upstairs.
-
Headed to the hospital to see if my SIL will get a new liver. Fingers and toes crossed that she is doing better and gets her transplant.

Wow! People are testing my patients today. Good thing I have them.

Why oh Why.....do people choose to have WLS and then insist they cannot do protein shakes. I don't know but I had the crap scared out of me by my surgeon. You choose not to do protein, plan on having a rough recovery and lack of health down the road.

I just ordered a pair of Tieks Ballet flats. Anyone tried these? I am excited, they look so darn cute and comfy.

I have stuffed peppers in my instant pot and boy they smell good!

@heidikat72 - I use my instant pot for everything. At least 3 to 4 times per week. Tonight I will make beef stew in literally 30 minutes and the beef will be tender and moist.
@proudgrammy - Hubby is eating the last of the stuffed peppers for lunch today so you are too late
They were yummy......
It really is one of the best kitchen appliances i have ever purchased.

Gah. I just don't get it. Why bother if you are going to start self sabbotaging

I have to defend Tijuana sleeves simply because that is where I got mine. The problem is that we are an instant gratification society. The lack of self education is sad. We are seeing posts from people who want the "magic pill" and don't want to work at it. Unfortunately little effort is put in by the patient and they're simply not prepared. On top of that they come here and ask what we know to be absurd questions.
-
To be honest, I would say that some of it may be coming from folks whose insurance DID cover the surgery and who did have certain requirements. All of my pre-op efforts and preparation were due to my own grit and determination. The surgeon's "diet program" people didn't give a crap at all. In fact, they just wanted to rush me in and out as fast as they could. Don't get me wrong; they are nice people, and I do believe they want the best for their patients, but I strongly believe that place is more of a money-driven business than it is a place of health and wellness...

See, I had a completely different experience. My center of excellence was very strict. If I missed or rescheduled more than 1 appointment during that 6 months they assumed you were not serious enough and reserved the right to dismiss you from the program and report you to your insurance. My center of excellence gave me a big binder (bible) on day 1 that went through every aspect of every type of WLS and exactly what the diet before, during and after looked like. My center of excellence made me sign a contract that stated i would not drink alcohol for 12 months post op and that i agreed to have my nutritional panel completed at every stage 3,6,12,18 months and then every 12 months after that for life. There were many more aspects as well but you get the idea. It was very clear that my insurance company and my center of excellence were communicating and working closely together to make sure i was a good candidate. I just feel bad for people that dont get approved when so many clearly take it for granted. It is frustrating.....dont get me wrong everyone makes mistakes or has cheat days but geez.....lets go home and eat something we know we shouldnt touch right out of the gate.

Geez! I had a bit of red wine tonight while making dinner. I still cannot believe how quickly a few sips impact me. I guess that is what happens when you cook with wine and there is some left for you. Feeling mellow......

We have another shiddach here! Bourbon! And, Pirate, if you have a special liking for jazz, I saw an amazing documentary about the music and more. "The Jazz Loft According to W. Eugene Smith." It plays in non-mainstream theaters and is available on iTunes. I was expecting it to be about the music only, but it's that and more. Lots about it in google.

My drink of choice ( I didn't drink often) but I loved COORS LIGHT. I don't drink it now because of the carbonation. So just last month, I went to a family get together and had wine!! It is called STRAWBERRY VINES, just a cheap one but dang me it was good. You know how they say that after WLS drinks hit you fast well I'm here to tell you I got a buzz in just a few shakes. I think after my 1st glass I got warm and fuzzy. And this is from a person thck of beer and just barely get a buzz. I won't do it much but it sure was good. LOL

I am very excited! I just scheduled my next plastic surgery for January 19th. I am having an Abdominalplasty, Breast Lift with augmentation. I am nervous but thrilled because I know the results will be incredible and I am tired of hiding my loose skin!

Stuffed peppers in my instant pot. It smells so good in here!

Well, so last week Friday i had that epidural and i had 2 full days without pain for the first time in 1.5 years. Bad news is, the pain is back in full force. Good news is, I talked with the doc and they said that because i went too full days without pain they know they have the right area. So now we are going to give it a couple of weeks and we may go back and do a second epidural. I am still very hopeful after talking with him.
-
Today is my 2 year anniversary! I have been maintaining for over 6 months now. Yay!
-
Keep your fingers crossed for me....On Friday I finally had an epidural injection in my thoracic spine to try to get my mid back and rib pain to improve. This particular pain has been plagueing me for 1 1/2 years following my cervical fusion. Yesterday was the first time in 1 1/2 years that I had NO pain! Today I have pain but it is mild and totally tolerable. It takes a full week before you know the results of an epidural completely but I am so very hopeful that we finally found the cause and have treated it properly.

Well good news! I appealed that $2300.00 charge for my 18 month nutritional panel and I got a call from the insurance company today. They said they would review it if I got the doctor to change the coding from bariatric follow up to a routine lab code. So, I called my PCP today who I sent a letter to explaining their screw up and she promptly changed the coding for me. Lets hope now that the insurance company does what they are supposed to. I have already paid the 2300.00 bill and would love to get that money back. It is money I simply dont have to spend on lab work. Cross your fingers.....

Switch2lose - It was for routine nutritional panel post op 18 months. Which by the way needs to be done at 3,6,12,18 and then every 12 months for the rest of your life. My doc coded it as labs following bariatric surgery and because the word bariatric was in the coding my insurance automatically rejected the claim! The charge was for one set of labs (13 viles of blood). First off it is preposterous that labs could cost so much! When I told my PCP about it she was appalled as well. Given it is a lifetime requirement it is important that your PCP know how to code it properly as routine and not bariatric. $2300.00 is a lot of money for blood work only.

Been working like a crazy fool! Decided I would take a break and make some grilled BBQ chicken, Brocoli/Cauliflower casserole! Now I am full and happy and could sleep for 3 days.

I use frozen brocoli/cauliflower mix. Sometimes I add brussel sprouts if I have them. A can of Healthy request cream of mushroom soup, Shredded cheddar cheese and french fried onions. I used to put minute rice, butter and cheez wiz in there but I stopped doing that 2 years ago. It still is delicious and of course has the fat from the cheese in there. I use about a cup of shredded cheddar.

Feeling excited! I just started my own consulting business and had my final interview with my first client. It went very well and most importantly I did not have to deal with them trying to reduce my rate, at least so far. Keep your fingers crossed.

@Djmohr - that sounds great - working for yourself has many benefits - you won't get yelled at if you are late, and you get paid what you want, and most importantly - boss always loves your work LOL - you'll do great - no crossies from me - you don't need them - kathy - congrats

Thanks so much everyone! I am very excited to be doing this. It is the work I love to do and cannot wait! I have always wanted to work for myself! LOL.
I received a note back from the CEO of my first client and he pretty much said its a done deal, they are just pulling the contract together so I should hear something today.

Well, after I made my shrimp corn chowder tonight, I sat with a heating pad for a long while and it is doing ok at the moment. I am hoping it remains calm. I just started my own business this week and have been hired to do a 6 week project. I can do 95% of the work from home but the first week will be in Austin Texas and I will be traveling alone. I sure hope things calm down.

Thank Goodness! Today I heard back from my old Bariatric Center where I had my surgery. I asked them to provide a letter that I could take to my new doctors and insurance company in my new state indicating that having to have the annual blood work is an absolute necessity to ensure proper nutrition post RNY. My lovely new insurance company refuses to pay the $2363.00 bill for said blood work because they used the work Bariatric in the coding. The clinic of course refuses to change the coding so I wrote the check yesterday because they threatened to send it to collections. What BS. Now I am filing with both the insurance company for an appeal and I am filing with the state, thanks to @OKCPirate. Don't know if it will do any good and I will get my money back but it is what it is.

This is why I switched to a defined benefit policy. I pay everything up to $4000. So I can pick and choose what I want, who I want to do it no freaking networks or idiots. If I go over they pay up to a million. $146 a month. Worth it. I check the box on my taxes saying I have insurance. All is good. Even the year I got my WLS, I have never gone over it. It is worth it just to see the look in the eyes of the people at the front desk when you ask "well how much is that?" You can get so many discounts if you pay cash and don't file insurance its not even funny.
-
Trust me, I have worked with my doctors office which is an in network clinic. They refuse to recode it and the insurance company thinks they are off the hook because the word Bariatric is in the coding. I am going to appeal it and attach the letter from my Bariatric surgeon now that I have it. But even they don't know that the insurance company will do anything about it. It is total BS. But I won't give this fight up because it is simply wrong. Can you imagine how much it would cost the insurance company if I were to not have my testing done every year and get sick? Which my surgeon wrote in the letter that I am at risk of neurological illnesses due to the malabsorption factor if I don't keep up on my nutrition. I argued with the clinic the other day for over an hour. They believe it is the insurance company. My point was, had someone told me that it was going to cost that much money I seriously would have skipped the test until I got insurance to approve it ahead of time. I would have gone the same route.
Then, I got a call from someone else in the clinic to say that my account was at risk of going to collections. I almost had a heart attack on them. My credit rating has been over 800 for 20 years.....I will go ballistic on them if they screwed with it and so we just paid the bill hoping to get it back later. I really did not have that kind of money that isn't already spoken for. UGH!

Felling excited! I got an email from my plastic surgeon today. They took before and after pics of my Brachioplasty. After she and her assistant took a look at them they were so thrilled with the results that they want to use them on their website, in their office and in any presentations she does. I knew they looked great but I am thrilled she is feeling great about them. Yesterday I saw my dermotologist in MN and he wanted to see them as he used to do plastic surgery as well. He was blown away by how great they look and he was especially excited about my scars and how perfect they look. Then I found out they are going to give me a free ultrasonic facial and Botox session just for booking my surgery with them. It was a good day for me!

So last night I didn't get to go to the packer game but hubby brought me a present. It was a tiny little packer jacket that has tiny little arm holes. 4 weeks ago there is no way I would have gotten my big arms into that thing. Today, I slid my new beautiful arms in and there was even room. Hubby said, I knew you would have no problem with this! He got a big hug and kiss from me. What a nice surprise.

LOL! I am obsessed with trying things on that I once couldn't because of my heavy arms. Now I look for stuff that is tiny in the arms. It's like a game of challenge. So far I have not found anything in my size that won't fit because of it. Before I was lucky if I fit in my size at all because of my arms. Yay ME!!!!!
-
Off for some cottage cheese tonight for dinner. Hubby is at the Packer game and his best friend is sitting in my seat. So I will drown my sorrows in cottage cheese with a fresh nectarine. Boo Hoo......

I am still having really severe back pain and cannot take it for that long. Also recovering from Brachioplasty, trust me.....I would not miss a packer game if I could help it. Last year I went in a neck brace and it almost killed me. Too much up and down for now. It is likely I won't make it to the other ones either.
But hubby supposedly brought me a present because he felt bad.
