@@Jyoyonomore, I appreciate your sympathies, but I actually am doing very well. I just learned early on, Water is not agreeing with me, and switched. Was out tonight at my weekly trivia game, did order Water but added crystal light, again no problem.
I went out yesterday on an outing for about 12 hours, took a cooler with yogurt, with Protein added, and two Protein Shakes. Had Soup with Protein when I got home. it was a good fun day. I walked and walked, had a blast.
Can't wait for Tuesday for pureed foods.

Hubby just got Domino's pizza delivered with cinnastix. You know what? I'm so not interested! Yesterday my best friend came up and took me to some stores. She wanted Roy Rogers. I took my Protein Shake in with me and sat with her while she ate a roast beef sandwich and a shake. This was hard but I'm not giving up my social life over food! Woohoo!

@@amylynns I totally agree with your post. I know my family has to continue to live and eat the things they enjoy. They have started making healthier choices as a means of supporting me, but tonight they had hot wings. Needless to say I've almost finished another good book! I'm not going to sit in the middle of temptation. This group has given me a lot of encouragement and I appreciate everyone for sharing.

Sooo post-op day 3 and I'm home. Day 1 was fine; day 2 was terrible with dehydration and pain. Pain wasn't from the gas but realized later it was from the drain which came out but the site leaked through my bandage and my abdominal binder. Much better today, mostly just sore struggling to get in Protein and Water. Thanks for the prayers and well wishes as I've never seen my surgeon quite so bubbly, she was very pleased after surgery! Good luck to those still to come and a speedy recovery to those who are on the mending side! We've all GOT this!!

Yep, distraction is the game. Time to pull all the stops. As I like to say, there's a time for trying and then there's a time for nuclear weapons. I am parked near the "red phone." I will do what it takes. This is the battles of all battles for me and I do know this is only the early stages. I'm going in with eyes fully open in the understanding that things are going to get a hell of a lot worse before they get better.

That part was really hard for me too! But each day, each meal you get through is only going to give you strength! I'm 6 days post op today and this was the first time other forod bothered me since surgery. My family ordered Chinese. For a brief second I took it as a slap in the face...and then I shook it off. It's not their fault I chose to do this. They shouldn't change the way eat or not eat certain things just because I can't right now. So I took the time while they were eating and went to my bedroom and called a good friend and had a great chat!!

At a wedding reception right now and you guys would be so proud of me! I'm starting to feel a bit of hunger finally for the first time in 3 weeks!
I didn't want people to ask questions at our table so I put some extra food on one side of my plate that was really for my husband. There was such a good spread that I actually had some good options which was a nice surprise.
Over the course of the afternoon/evening I've had:
1 deviled egg, 3 bites of pulled pork no sauce (went down surprisingly well) and 4 (thankfully overcooked) green Beans

Whew! I'm like a new person today. ( mostly) :-)
In fact, I am HUNGRY! Like, the kid's lunch was killing me. I didn't quite expect that.
And then my dad texted me and said he was slaving over the hot stove making scalloped potatoes and corn pudding for dinner. Oh my land. I want some chewable food so bad!
I went right out to the kitchen and make some de-caf coffee and put my unjur.y vanilla Protein mix in it, hoping the Protein (which I haven't been getting any of) would help fill me up. It didn't taste that great unfortunately, but my belly is full after a few sips. But dang, scalloped potatoes?! *sigh*
speaking of my dad...remember I only told him about the surgery 3 days before and told him I didn't want one word of judgement from him, expecting no communication from him for quite a while. Well, he texted me the day before, and even came to see me in the hospital! I was shocked!! And he's checked on me each day too. My mom said all he said was, "It was her decision, I don't have to like it." Alright then! That works. :-)
My lovely 21yr old daughter knows how crazy insane I go when the house is a mess. And by a mess, I mean cluttered, because during my nesting time last week, I got it nice and clean! But as we all know....that doesn't last long, especially with 5 kids around! So anyway, she took it upon herself to clean the house for me today! Oh my goodness, what a blessing. I even piddled around and picked stuff up and folded some laundry. Then I decided to get adventurous and my 8yr old and I did a walk around the block. Whew, pooped me out good! What beautiful, un-commonly warm weather we're having here in iowa. Love it!!

I picked up my nausea patch at the pharmacy today and got the last odds and ends I will need at the hospital and when I come home. I have sf Popsicles, sf Jello, some broth, yoghurt and cream Soups. I think I am ready! I even went to Macy's and got 3 new pair of comfy pj's. 4 more days!

Thirty-six hours to go and I'm starting to feel nervous. Tomorrow is the Clear liquids day. I have to drive back to Austin in the morning. (I was facilitating a couple of teacher's workshops today in Carthage). That means I'll 4.5 hours in the car to let my mind wander. Not sure that's such a good thing.
Deep breath. I've made it this far. Just keep swimmin. Just keep swimmin.
Thanks to everyone who has shared your story. The really do help. I don't post much, but I read often.

Gaaaaaaaah!!!! Jonathan! I've been following happily along with this series and this the one I've wanted to skip. I have truly not wanted to go full into the depths of these questions. I've been more wanting to think about how I will make a weekly date for grocery shopping and food prep, how I could avoid taking my blood pressure mediation, how I would avoid getting my toes or legs cut off, how I could get down on the floor with my 4 year old, the list goes on and on. But for the morbidly obese and relatively young (I turn 38 on Sunday) and relatively healthy, I've only got two disease processes threatening me (arthritis I acquired very young) and high blood pressure, the process has not been so much thinking if the risk outweighs the benefit in the moment but more like if I continue down this path toward more weight and health complications THEN does the risk outweigh the potential benefits?? The answer is Yes. All day every day. But what about the time between the now and then? I'm having a hard time admitting defeat accepting that in all these years I've only gained it back. But again relatively young and relatively healthy NOW. It's this decision making based on forward leaping, or the fast forwarding that I get stuck on sometimes. I think I've accumulated a fair amount of luck in this life, resilience or some people call it. My grandmother lived til she was in her nineties and her heart just slowed to a stop one night. The diseases of my parents are lifestyle diseases, sleep apnea, diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol- loose weight and they go away. No-one other than my grandmother has died in my family. No complications with surgeries, no infections, no problems with anesthesia, no cancer, no systemic lung, heart, kidney problems. Nothing. The odds feel stacked in my favor, but statistically I feel like I'm knocking on wood.....don't want to get lost in the gravity of it all, but these are things I need to think about. So, thank you.

Layknee and smiley- the first incision on the right side did in fact go through the muscle. My first night home was miserable. My hubby moved me to 4 different sitting arreas in the house. Lol. But I am now 18 days out with very little pain and down 30 lbs. the abdominal band they gave really helped me. I wear it only when I'm out at work or at the gym. It gets better I promise. Walk more I guarantee it goes away sooner.
