I never get annoyed with compliments. Most people mean well. Even the "How much weight have you lost?" people. I'm proud to tell them, because I've worked damn hard to get here.

I am almost 8 months out and I finally reached the 100 pounds lost mark! Yyyyaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!
I started this process at 315 and today I weigh 214.6.
Another 70 pounds would put me in the normal BMI range. My one year anniversary is May 26th.
I would like to at least lose another 40 lbs by my surgiversary.

Starting at 326 lbs. last April, I could only dream of being 199 lbs. again for the last 30 years. It was a dream I never expected to come true. I'm so happy to say that I OFFICIALLY hit my goal this morning and cannot be happier with where this journey has taken me and what all it has taught me. Thanks to God, my family, doctors, friends, and nutritionists!!! Without all of them, this would have never happened or been this enjoyable of a story. Eating right and keeping a positive mind will never allow me to go back to the pain, both physically and mentally that I experienced for most of my adult life. I encourage anyone reading this that is thinking of surgery to talk with your doctor and look at its benefits. It's not the magic pill, but it is the tool to get you back in charge of your life.

SmilingBeauty reacted to reree6898 in Internal Integrity
So I was watching the new show on A&E called Fit to Fat to Fit. It is about these trainers who gain around 60 pounds to experience what it is like to be heavy and lose the weight with their client. The trainer on the episode I was watching said that he wanted to see his client show that he had internal integrity to keep the commitment to get himself healthy.
The statement of internal integrity really hit home with me. One thing I have always had a bit of pride in is that people refer to me as a person of high integrity. When I say I am going to do something I do my best to keep that word no matter what. However, how good have I been at keeping my word to myself over the years? How many times over the years have I said I will start watching what I eat on Monday, only to see Monday come and go with no changes made? When I had surgery a few months ago it was to help me keep control over my portions but now that I am healed up it does not control what I put in my mouth. That is all up to me. I have to be the one to keep the promise to myself that surgery or not I have to eat right and exercise to maintain my health. Looking at it in the terms of internal integrity really opened my eyes to the fact that if I don't make the proper choices I truly am lying to myself and there is nothing I can't stand more then lying.

Nope, but I'm pretty much at the end of my honeymoon phase at 18 months out. But I've seen hundreds of posts saying things change drastically the further out you get. The food you used to eat that didn't effect gain before suddenly does. The 2 or 3 pounds you could easily drop before suddenly won't come off, and sometimes they even see the scale inexplicably climbing by not doing anything different.
My point frankly is this: Don't get cocky.
I was a cocky newbie, too. Thinking I had this whole thing figured out and I wouldn't struggle with hunger and have the great restriction forever. Thinking that a few days of cocktails and hamburgers won't cause a gain, because how much can I REALLY eat anyway?? Well, at 18 months out, quite bit, actually!
That's why choices, no matter what stage, are important. The choices you're making now may not effect your weight currently, but they sure as heck may down the road. Don't believe me? Search the veterans forums and count the hundreds of "I'm 4 years out and have gained 40 pounds!"posts.
    Just sayin'.

SmilingBeauty reacted to Inner Surfer Girl in A Significant Milestone
I just wanted to post today because I hit a significant milestone. I am in the 300's! My scale this morning read 398.8 and I am thrilled. I can't remember the last time I was under 400. It has to have been over a decade ago and maybe two. I was really good about sticking my head in the sand for a very long time. Just saying the numbers out loud is a huge change for me.
I also started treatment on my lymphedema a couple of weeks ago. I met with the PT pre-surgery and we decided to wait until after surgery to start aggressive treatment. It already seems to be helping.
I am also starting a creative writing class this evening in a neighboring city. I couldn't have done that a year ago, especially in the winter time because I was having such a hard time getting around.
Now, I need to schedule my next reward massage!
