SmilingBeauty reacted to LipstickLady in I just had a BRILLIANT idea! (I know, no shocker there!)
Wouldn't it be a dream, though, if people understood that they can take whatever feedback they are given (no matter what it is) as positive or negative? That's it's totally up to them to interpret it how they want?
Oh, only in my happy place...

SmilingBeauty reacted to Butterflyhigh in Is it CHEATING or is it a CHOICE?
    Choice. It's all choice.
90% of my choices are gold star healthy. However, 10% of the time I choose to have a cookie, or a carb instead of Protein, or a few bites of dessert. I don't think of that as cheating. I think of that as strategically choosing to eat unhealthy crap because the other 90% of my choices are healthy food and daily exercise.
Many people with weight issues feel very out-of-control when it comes to food, and become good at ignoring the reality of their food addictions. The act of cheating is a negative, out-of-control type of behavior. I think that saying "I cheated" instead of "I chose" takes a lot of the personal responsibility off of the individual. It's mostly subconscious and the thought process goes something like this...
Eating this pie is cheating. Cheating is an out-of control behavior. My cheat-eating is out of my control. I am not responsible for uncontrollable events.
Hopefully, most people will realize BEFORE they have a wls that their eating and their emotions are all wrapped up together in an unhealthy mash-up of emotional pleasure, pain, reward, punishment, and coping. We use all sorts of unconscious tricks to protect our toxic relationship with food. Being a victim of uncontrollable events is a biggie when you're talking about a person's ability to take personal responsibility.
Words and Language are very powerful. This is a great example of that.

Only you can decide if and when you are ready.
Personally, I felt I had eaten MORE than my share of food in my lifetime. I was VERY ready to get out from under the hold food had over me and more importantly, the weight that was holding me back from fully living my life.

I am two years out tomorrow, and I have not regretted a single moment of my life since my surgery. I can buy clothes in any store. I can climb stairs without breathing heavy, I can eat (almost) any foods I want to. I Zumba, kickbox, and do mud runs with my two athletic teenagers. It's a thrill every time they borrow MY clothes. (MY CLOTHES!!! THEY WANT TO BORROW MY CLOTHES!!!!)

There is no cake/pizza/fries/ice cream on earth that even touches how great being thin makes me feel. NONE.

    Great Topic @@LipstickLady!
My goals are to have a AIC that is in the normal range ( I am almost there - started at 6.9 and currently I am at 6.0), I would be happy with any weight between 150 - 170, would like to wear single digit sizes and have the ability to shop in any store that I choose. When I graduated high school, I weighed 170 lbs and wore a size 8.
170 is overweight per my BMI chart. If I used the BMI chart my goal weight would be around 145. Seems nearly impossible even with WLS.
I have decided to give myself 25 lbs goals at a time and not look at the entire 160 lbs I need to lose.

We have officially started a Bariatric sleeve group! Even though there are only 3 of us now, I hope to make this a bigger group, more sleevers equals more support! We met at Starbucks for our first meeting, our 2nd meeting will be the same...May 20th. After the 2nd meeting, I would like to take it to a park or area where we can walk and talk!

I used to sweat excessively - for no reason - not exercise related. VERY embarrassing!
As it relates to working out, most people fit people consider sweating badge of honor. I will never forget my first spinning class with hardcore cyclists. I have thick long hair and the sweat was running off the ends of it. I suddenly understood why people put a towel under their bikes! Everybody sweated like crazy. Kickboxing is another..OMG the sweating. A guy brought his girlfriend to a class and I asked her how she liked it. She said "I used to wonder if you guys sprayed each other with garden hoses now I KNOW that is all sweat!"
So, as you start working on your fitness, start thinking of sweat as a badge of honor. It is NOT embarrassing, it shows you are working it baby! It is way different then sitting there in a business meeting and starting to sweat for no reason...grrr
