Ok i have to confess, I'm 8mo post op and I've completely and utterly fallen off the food wagon. I wont even go into details of how badly I've fallen off. I don't think i even have a good excuse. I got frustrated with how slow I've lost, felt like it was impossible to get over this hump (I'm at 278, which is about the weight I've been most of my life) and already felt like a failure so i gave up.

A lil background info... I've been fat my entire life. i can honestly say i dont ever remember being under 250 (even at age 11). Most of my adult life I was about 260-270. About 3 years ago i ballooned up 100lbs. With this surgery I lost most of that, but i put on a pair of my old "fat pants" (size 26 from when I was this weight) and they fit snugly.... What the heck size did i wear pre-op?? It all just felt useless, like i would never get smaller then this.

No I'm not looking for someone to make me feel better, nor am i looking to be reamed up the butt (I'm quite capable of giving myself a stellar guilt trip thanks), I just needed to confess my stupidity so i didn't pretend it didn't happen.

I'm hoping that putting it out there will force me to be accountable for how i change things.

Has anyone else failed and been able to pick yourself back up?

@@snowkitten I've been there, when I had the band, and it was really tough to get back on the right path. What works for me is to read on the science of why this is healthy. And now that winter is over and it feels so good to get out in the sun, some activity may help jump start you. Best of luck!

I'm getting the surgery on the 19th so I haven't had this issue come up but I'm scared it will. Maybe get back to your "roots" go back to the beginning and start there... Protein Shakes, etc and find something you'd like to do exercise wise. I hate to exercise because I sweat like crazy... Always have since I was an average weight kid but I do remember the things I liked to do then and that was ride a bike and roller skate, while I'm waiting until I'm in better shape yo roller skate (I know I wouldn't be able to get back up if I fell) I did buy a bike and I love to ride it. Find something you love and if you don't remember try different things. Also, food wise, maybe you can remove the temptation at home to help you. Good luck!

@robym123 I think its natural to be scared at this point. Its great that your doing your research. This website is very helpfull.

To answer your question: Im going to buy weights for home so i have no excuse when i cant make it to the gym. Now that its summer Im taking my son to the park alot (While he plays i plan to walk around the park with my hubby to get in my 10000 steps), Im going back to tracking every morsal of food, Im not going to allow soda in my house, and no more buying goodies for others. Im going to get an assessment done at my local gym. IM going to weigh myself and log it every day (so far i only log it if i've lost, i think for my own peice of mind i need to know the trend of which days i gain because when i PMS i gain ALOT and that always depresses me). Im going to find hobbies to do when my hands are itchy to graze. Cut out carbs with meals. And most importantly, get back to reading this website everyday. Its hard to be bad when I'm reading this site!

@MyNewLife28 Thats so funny, I've never met anyone else who has an adversion to sweating!! My mom teases me that I have a fear of sweat. I actually think she's right. I HATE it. Not the exercise, just the sweating. And those stares you get from people when your sweating.

For me walking and hiking will have to be my fun activity. Thankfully summer in alaska is great for both.

Who designated a time frame? I'm just saying that there is no reason to think you've failed when in reality to have the rest of your life to make it work. It may not be working as fast as you want and you may not be doing all you can to help it along, but there's no failure. If you need to do better then just do it. Falling off the wagon and catching yourself is nothing to worry about. Just start today and do a little better than yesterday, and so on.

You have every day from now on to do a little better than the last. There's no race to the finish:) Love yourself and be kind to those you love. You'll make it in the end - you know - as in slow and steady wins the race.

I have hyperhidrosis which is excess sweating so I'm more aware of it and always sweet more than the average person. It sucks. I've let it control so much of my life. I'm kinda hoping I'll be like a lot if the people and be chilly after surgery. I'd like to see how the other side lives ;)

That's an awesome plan @@snowkitten sounds like you have you foot on the wagon already !!! That's my problem is I don't want other people to have to change their lifestyle unless they want to of course.. so that was my worries about trying to keep other people in my house happy until they are ready to make a healthier eating habit

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
