I used beef bouillon cubes in hot Water. Easy on my tummy and the warm liquid was satisfying. Had that and Protein Shakes, 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after surgery. Lost 27 lbs that month.

And you can freeze your own homemade broth in ice cube trays, using however many you want at a time. Works for other pureed foods, as well. Good luck with your surgery!

Swansons Chinese hot and sour and tortilla Soup base starter, strained wonton soup, strained French onion, egg drop soup before adding the egg, and I got the low sodium chicken and beef broths.
Once you switch from clear to full liquids you can add in lobster bisque, potato leek, butternut squash, blended split pea, Tomato and cream Soups (chicken, mushroom, asparagus, spinach, celery, etc). I always added unflavored Protein powder to kill two birds with one stone.

Schwan's chicken broth with half a baby can of spicy V8. I ended up buying the low sodium cartons of the broth. Sounded nasty to me at first but after the sweet Protein drinks, something savory was welcome. I think it may not sound that good to me now.
    Best wishes through this stage.

You can have the juice from chicken noodle Soup as well and it's really comforting on your tummy, I'm 3days out and so far that has been the easiest thing to tolerate. Also veggie brooth is very good

Honestly I kind of see it as who am I to judge. I don't know the trials they've been through and there was a doctor somewhere willing to endure the risks of performing this surgery. I've heard through this entire process that I don't really need surgery. Even my therapist and dietician didn't believe me when I told them my weight until they I got on the scale. Then was quickly followed by a "you carry your weight very well". Gee thanks! I think most people in their right mind don't directly go to the route of surgery, such a life altering thing, but have tried and failed at things prior. Additionally, many people have other co-morbidities, that will only become more significant if they are unable to get their weight under control. 50 pounds may not seem like much to lose to somebody who has 200lbs to lose but 50lbs is significant and you don't know how they necessarily carry it either it may appear 50 but really be 75 or so.

Fifty pounds is not a lot of weight to lose when compared to 150 lbs, but it's still a lot. If I had known when I was only 50 lbs overweight that I needed intervention because I could not lose weight AND maintain it, the choice of WLS would have spared my body a lot of damage. Internal damage to my heart, arteries, and kidneys; external to my joints that are forced to carry around a massive amount of excess weight; and emotional damage to my mind.
I think some people are just wiser and nip it in the bud. Others like me, fight a good fight and still go down swinging in full denial thinking maybe just one more diet will work. And yes, there are probably a handful of folks who have other motives but that type of mentality probably permeates many other areas of their lives as well.

I take Water aerobics. Here are things that made it easier for me:
The first one is more of a tip than a challenge. I am out of the size range for the Speedo and Nike swim suits. Through trial and error I found that the crinkle cut suits are the best. They go from straight sizes to very large and they truly are chlorine resistant. They also don't stretch out of shape and come in a variety of colors and shapes. Best of all they have supportive built in bras.
The second challenge was finding a swimcap to fit my head. I have locs and regular swim caps didn't fit me. This etsy shop came to the rescue. Now my hair stays nice and try.
The third thing was this towel. I have sensitive skin. If I don't shower the chlorine off after class it will trigger my allergies. This makes moving from the showers to the locker room easier.
For floor time/other workouts I find that compression wear is a must. I buy them from Lane Bryants and Old Navy.
For home I recommend a set of light hand weights. The can be anywhere from 2-5 lbs depending on your upper body strength. These may be especially good if you have limited mobility since you can use these while sitting down.

Ooh. It feels good to be a veteran! Hello! Hello! Just wanted to say "hey". I've been away for a while. All is well and I am still loving the fact that I made this decision.
Hope all of you are still kicking butt.

I'm new too and felt exactly like you before my surgery on Dec 3rd. I now understand already what people are talking about! My appetite is just not there anymore which feels like such a blessing and that is how I am able to be on an all liquid diet for the last 10 days without cheating or any cravings. It is actually amazing! Before surgery I was on the pre-op diet for 10 days where I had 3-4 Protein shakes and a small meal. That was so much more than I'm eating now and I was starving. I too, was never able to stick to any diet plan in the past but with the grehlin greatly reduced, my appetite is now completely manageable. Yours will be too and that, my friend is how you will be successful!

I feel the same way, Rubygirl - I just can't understand how I will be able to change my habits when I haven't been able to previously.
Thanks for all the responses so far - it's great to know there are so many people who used to be the way I am now, and it has been a success for them - gives me more confidence that it'll work.

As most of is know food is "social" it's emotional, it's a plethora of things . I wanted to give a suggestion to anyone who is recently post op or the newbies just starting your journey. As I am now 6wks post op and learning to eat all over again I wanted to share a tool that works for me and well I simply think they are Awesome! And simply amazing and should be marketed as bariatric sleeve training tools. My sister previously gave me the fork and spoons to help with my small bites. Today when I came home my Mom said I have something to help you on your journey! All said with a loving smile. And here is what she gave me. How awesome! Tiny plates tiny bowels forks and spoons. This not only help me keep my portions in check but can make this a bit fun! love this and just had to share

You guys are right, each day has gotten better since surgery and so far day 3 has been no different, although this is the day it got ALOT better!
Last night I was in pain again so I took lortab and a couple Gas-X strips before going to bed. I knew the lortab would help me sleep but didn't have a lot of faith in the Gas-X accomplishing anything. Wow, was I wrong! 4 hours later I literally woke myself up in the middle of the night with the greatest passing of wind the world has probably ever known. Seriously, I wish I had a stopwatch handy because it had to have been some kind of record for the sheer duration of it. I can't say my wife was as impressed as I was but my dog certainly seemed to be.
And just like that, almost all my pain was gone! The new only pain I feel now is the incisions and that is very minor and completely tolerable.
Sorry to be crude but this was a milestone in feeling better for me and I'm just sharing my experiences as they come. I hope the rest of you who have had surgery recently are feeling better today also.

I wear Asics because I tend to get plantar fasciitis and I find they have good arch support. Also the wide toe area works for me. They were recommended by a podiatrist.
