I'm 7.5 weeks post RNY and have been scared to death of restaurants. Yesterday was my mom's birthday so we picked Olive Garden b/c I knew they had the Soup lunch deal. I was so happy to eat 2 bites of salad, 6 pieces of calamari and half a bowl of Soup (I skimmed out the kale and sausage for Protein and Vitamins, left the broth and potatoes). It felt great to feel like a real person again, and I had no stomach upset all day!

Any of us who qualify for WLS have most likely been using food to deal with most of our emotions - especially the negative ones - for years. Now that crutch is gone and we are left having to feel our feelings. It makes sense that you might not be equipped to handle them in a healthy way. Sounds like a therapist or psychologist will be helpful to you. Ask your fiance to be patient with you while you learn how to deal with this new lifestyle and new body, I'm sure you'll learn new coping techniques soon!

It could be too-full? Mine can happen even with Water, and sometimes I wonder if I gulped in some air. It feels like I have to burp but can't. Mine don't last as long, and if I stand with my hands straight up in the air for a few minutes, I might get a little burp that makes me more comfortable.

A few of those "too full" incidents really helped me to be aware of my eating. I stop before I'm done, sit for a few minutes then wait and see if I'm full. It definitely hits me after I'm done eating, so I've been in a lot of discomfort a few times. Everything I read says to eat slowly. For me, I hate to really pay attention. Especially if the TV is on, I zone out and can keep eating then be in trouble.

Congratulations to you on making a tough decision for your health and your future! I think my one bit of advice would be, because your insurance doesn't require a long process, do all you can to educate yourself. If there is a support group through your surgeon or hospital, get to that. Spend a lot of time here reading people's stories and questions. I walked through the process with my husband and then 2 of my best friends. So when my time came, I felt pretty informed. And there are still things that surprise and confuse me! Good luck to you on the rest of your journey!

Lots of yogurts! Applesauce cups (no sugar added). They even make those apple sauce squeeze bags now. Creamy Soups in restaurants. Possibly white fish broiled that you sorta mash up yourself before eating.

My husband had RNY a few years before me, we jokingly called it our "farewell tours". But I do see now that my husband can eat just about anything in small amounts - it's not the end of good eating, but it will be a while and it will always be different. (and much smaller portions!)

Congrats!! You are doing great! Stay off the scale and focus on getting in fluids and Protein. Your body is still getting use to the changes but no worries in a few the weight will begin to decline. Your calories for now are good as you progress to the next stages your calorie in take will increase.

Are you still on pain killers? I learned from my husband's RNY (years ago), he dehydrated b/c of the hydrocodone. When we pulled him off that, he was able to start keeping things down. I worked hard to stay clear of the hydrocodone after my surgery because of that.

I'm not sure about a Biotin Shampoo but there are biotin supplements. My Dr recommends 10,000mg per day.
