  1. I confided in two colleagues/friends I believed I could trust and also advised my direct reporting lead in case I required additional time off. But seems like the whole "I'm keeping this pretty quiet and have only informed two work friends, so not telling anyone else" fell upon deaf ears as my lead actually discussed this with our team because she thought they knew (I'm guessing one of my "trusted" work friends told someone else in the team). Not very happy about that. I'd have thought as a lead she'd have the sense to nip the gossiping in the bud rather than join in it and share additional information. So that was a bad experience for me. Basically what Amazon envisaged happening, happened to me!!
  2. Hi all Just wondering if anyone else is going through this - My weight has only moved by about 1kg in the past 4wks, yet my measurements are dropping quite significantly. I know that doing exercise builds muscle and that weighs more than fat thus not changing the scales much and I am exercising quite regularly. I just find it so odd that in the space of 9 days, I've lost about 7cm's from my waist (& similar in other areas) and my weight hasn't moved down more than 100grms. Plus I can actually see the changes in my body, so I'm completely bamboozled about the scales issue. It's actually quite disheartening despite the change in measurements!! It's quite hard to disassociate oneself from paying attention to the scales. Tis very odd!!!
  3. Thanks for the feedback everyone. I think I might try the calorie increase too and see how I fare. My dietician didn't really give me a guide on calorie intake. Just lists of foods that I could eat and to ensure I stick to about 1/2 cup per serving. As a consequence, I've felt like I've been floundering. So I jumped on the recording of calories from the comments I've seen here - which is great because last night after I did a 4km walk which I recorded in my app, it showed that I still had about 3000KJs remaining for the day. That kinda made me sit up and go "oh, maybe I'm not eating enough calories". So I guess it's worth a try upping the calorie intake for a bit and seeing what happens. I appreciate all the replies - it's so helpful to hear others experiences and to learn from them. I know I'm an eager beaver for this to stall to bugger off, but I guess that's just human nature. Taking a huge step like this, you expect to see the weight drop off. And to be fair, my doctor never said anything to me about stalls. He did say that once I lost about half my weight, it will become harder and harder to budge the weight. So I did go into this operation ignorant of a lot of these types of issues. But this forum has been fabulous at helping highlight issues and solutions as traverse this new territory. Thanks for all the words of wisdom and the advice. It's muchly appreciated. Cheers Rozzie J

    What are you excited for?

I'm looking forward to just general respect - something that is sorely lacking when you're on the plus size. Of hopping on the train during peak hour and not feeling like a terrible person because I go over into the other seat a little bit. Of being able to fit in a plane seat & travel. To have a man look at me across the room & smile cause he thinks I'm pretty and not because he and his mates are having a joke about my weight. To wear pretty bras again and show off my cleavage (thought it might be a bit saggy!!!). To maybe finally feel worthy of love, success, anything! Of not feeling ashamed of myself anymore for nothing more than being fat.
  5. Hi Everyone I've been doing some great reading around the forum of people's issues with stalls, in particular, the dreaded 3 week stall. I'm now 4wks post op today, have healed really well and in all ways feel great.... BUT I've been stalled the last two weeks with my weight loss. It's gone up and down by 1kg in the past two weeks (sorry folks, I'm in Aus and we're metric, so don't know the imperial conversion!!). Anyways, I'm consuming approximately 800 calories a day and I'm doing 2-3km walks everyday to every second day. After reading a number of posts by the veterans, who have mentioned increasing calorie content and Water, I'm curious if that could work for me - given I'm already at the ideal calorie intake & doing really well getting my water in. I'm using an app on my phone to record what I'm eating so it tells me how many kj's, how much Protein, fat, sugar, carbs etc are in. As of yesterday, I've finally managed to get to 60grms of protein, but my carbs are 66grms. Which seems to mostly come from having a glass of milk, which my dietician suggested I take to get in protein. As I'm quite terrified the stall is permanent (despite reading comments that it does start again - I don't have much faith it will!!), I'm wondering what the next step is. If I'm in starvation mode but increase my calories, is that going to bugger things up making the body thing "woo hoo!! Foood!!!!" and then gain weight because I've given it more calories?? And on days that I exercise, should I also increase calorie content?? It's almost like a maths equation or a science project! I did ask my surgeon last week, but his only comment was "weight is hard to lose". Which I'm sure most of you would agree with my response of "no shit sherlock"!! (I didn't actually say that to him, but I'm sure he read it on my face!!!). I know I'm probably being an eager beaver. And I'm also committing the cardinal sin of comparing my progress against a friend who had it done in June and I know week for week, she's progressed better than I have, so am having feelings of failing at this. Sorry for the 20 questions folks. I'm just really keen to kick this stall to the curb and get with the losing of weight again. I'm just so bummed it's not changing!!! Cheers RozzieJ
  6. And here I was self-flagellating because I thought I must be either eating too much or too little or just generally have a body that doesn't want to lose weight. I'd never heard of the three week stall, but I'm in the midst of it. I'm 4wks post op tomorrow and I've fluctuated between losing and gaining a kilo in the last fortnight. That said, I do notice tiny changes in my body ie my sports crop top that was once nearly cutting me in two is now comfortable bordering on being too loose. I'm glad I kept scrolling through this and thank you to the original poster for posting this!!! I just hope my body gets a grip on itself and starts to pull the finger out. I've ramped up my cardio and plan to start weights this weekend (baby weights, not Arnie weights!!!). You all have given me hope that I'm not going to stay this weight. Yay! Cheers RozzieJ

    How's my calories?

Hi Kindle - My apologies for barging in on this particular conversation, but I couldn't help notice your first sentence about the "Famous" three week stall. I'm coming up on 4wks post op (tomorrow actually). The scales haven't moved for me in the last two weeks, aside from up and down 1kg. So can I reassure myself that this is indeed normal?? I confess I'm sucking BIG time at getting in my requisite amount of protein. My visit to the surgeon last week didn't give me much info - he told me not to worry about protein and to focus on eating well. And I visited a dietician last week and she made it seem so easy to get my protein in, but I'm struggling. I'm working on about 700-800 calories a day and I'm walking every second day at this stage, with the hopes of progressing into light weights end of week. I'm really starting to panic as my biggest fear with this surgery was that I was not going to lose weight and here I am, nearly a month post op and haven't budged weight in two weeks. So any advice, opinions, suggestions and help will be greatly, greatly appreciated!! And once again, my apologies for barging in on this post!! Kindest regards RozzieJ
  8. Hi All I'm just over 3 weeks post op and in the last 12 days, I've only lost 1kg. I was terribly discouraged about this and went to a bariatric dietician (I foolishly thought I could do this on my own - doh!) and I got some great guidance from her. She said to me after such a big weight loss pre & one week post op (12kgs), that it was only natural that my body has stalled. Yesterday, I had my post-op follow up with my doctor and I ran my concerns past him. He evaded my questions of "is it normal not to shift weight in 11 days" and "Am I doing something wrong" with a response of "it's hard to lose weight". No shit Sherlock!!! Anyways, he contradicted everything the dietician told me, so I am completely and utterly bamboozled. Currently, I am walking about 2-3km's every second day. I'm upping my Water intake as it's coming into summer where I am and hot as. I'm not consuming many sugary based products (ie Sustagens, Up & gos, juices, milk etc). To give you an idea, my Breakfast was/has been an egg of some sort or one of the high Protein systagens (given those up), maybe a cup of tea or coffee mid-morning, lunch is a mashed up blend of steamed vegies and tuna, afternoon tea is sipping away on my electrolyte drinks (sugar free) and then dinner is the same as lunch. If I get the sensation of hunger (could be gas too) later on, I'll crush up some ice and put a bit of cordial in it and work my way through that. Since the dietician, I've started to have two cruskits crispbreads with a thin spread of hommus on one and a spread of feta on the other for morning tea or afternoon tea or lunch. My calorie intake for the day is quite low, so I don't think I'm over consuming in that department. I don't know what I'm doing wrong and why the weight isn't moving. I'm actually terrified now that it's not going to come off - that I've gone through all this and it won't work. I'd love any guidance and advice from the guru's who've been there before me. Thanks in advance. Kindest regards RozzieJ
  9. Good luck Susan!! Since taking these antacid tablets, I have found a big difference. That's in only two days of taking them!!! Perhaps since you're only post day 3, your tummy is still sorting itself out. If I don't have those grumblings, I don't even think about food or feel hungry. I wish you all the best though!!
  10. Thank you everyone for your kind words. It's certainly very helpful having this forum to go to and ask questions. I do feel a little lost as I don't seem to be experiencing too many problems post op. My pain is minimal (twisting the wrong way hurts!), I have no problems consuming liquids, even the slightly more thicker variety. I am not tired in the least - the only time I am tired is after my walks. Today I did 3kms, so felt a bit weary after that but am fine now. Just needed to get Water back in the body. And I have experienced my very first bought tonight of taking that one gulp too far. Lesson learned. But having the chance to ask questions of those who are old hands at this, is great. I actually invested in some anti-acid tablets and they have helped a LOT. I can see how when everyone says they just don't feel hungry. I don't. Only thirst (it's coming into summer in the land of Aus, so I'm struggling not to guzzle fluids!). I finally broke the 10kg mark yesterday and was over the moon. I'm still amazed that I can cope so well on so little amount of food! Incredible. Thank you all again. I appreciate your feedback You all rock!
  11. Hi all I'm currently 9 days post op and I have a couple of questions about the hunger aspect of this procedure. I've heard rumour that stomach acids mimic the sensations of hunger pains and I was wondering if this was accurate as I seem to spend every minute of the day struggling with hunger pains. I can sense I don't need food, but it's very annoying to be badgered by this constantly. I'm worried that with these sensations, I won't be able to clearly define when I am actually hungry and when I'm not and therefore, overeat. I'd appreciate advice of the gurus out there that have gone through this. Cheers RozzieJ
  12. Haha! thanks for the heads up re solids!!!! I do think I've been very lucky. I have to remind myself to be careful as I really have very little discomfit. One other thing I forgot to throw out there as well - hunger sensations. Is it really hunger or the stomach acids I've heard about? I seem to always feel some hunger but not desiring to eat. It's a confusing sensation!!! Thank you for your comments. I really appreciate it. It's a whole new world for me at the moment and I certainly don't want to bugger anything up!!!
  13. Hello everyone I'm a Day 4 Post Op Sleever from Down Under and I had some queries that I figured you would all be best at answering. My surgery was last Wednesday, 22 October and was a complete success. I was out of hospital on Friday and have very little pain from my incisions. My greatest amount of pain is from my IV site which hurts like a complete mudda four days on!! I have no idea what they jambed down that needle, but holy God, it's done some damage!!! Now, I've got all my information of how I should be eating from the dietician. I am currently on a full liquid diet and can consume anything that can be sucked through a straw. Each day, I increase my quantities in ten milligram increments until I reach 100ml which is where I'll stay. I've been very careful about not inhaling liquids too fast or having anything too thick, but I'm finding no troubles at all with what I'm doing thus far. I measure out my amounts and I eat my Soups or drinks using a spoon and always make sure that one spoon sip is taken and swallowed down before I embark on the next one. What I'm struggling with is that I don't seem to have any problems with my liquids. I don't get the feeling I'm too full or that I've drunk too quickly or anything. And this will sound strange to ask, but is that normal???? I'd have thought I'd have some issues at some point. Albeit, I'm not pushing the envelope here - I think down my liquids and can take regular sips without problem My only side effect I seem to get is gas - a joyously happy sensation where I end up trying to mimic a mother rocking a baby, in the hopes that the wretched air bubbles come up. So from everyone's experiences here, am I sounding like I'm doing ok?? Should I be feeling like I can't take in the designated mills that my dietician has advised?? I certainly have had no nausea and every day I feel better and better with little tiredness. I'm thinking I'm doing something wrong!!! That said, I am losing weight. Since surgery, I've come down about 3-4kgs. I'm just worried that I'm doing something amiss and will bugger up my new tummy and make it too big. So please forgive the early day paranoia talking, but would love to hear everyone's opinions/advice. Thanks kindly RozzieJ
  14. Oh man, there are SO many things I won't miss...... From not having to buy bras engineered by German structural engineers to not sweating at the slightest movement to not being called Princess Fiona or Pixie-Anne Wheatley (you have to be an Aussie to get that one ) But the big one for me at the moment is not feel shame every time I have to weigh in when travelling on the small planes I have to fly on for work purposes. They run on a weight-fuel ratio, so all passenger and luggage are weighed and then you're allocated a seat accordingly - which happens to always be the back seat of the plane. So, I'm looking forward to a) not being the fattest on board and being stuck in the fatty-boom-bah seat and not getting evil looks from the guys who are really tall and envious of my leg room by the back door!!! My dream to get seat 1A!!!! Keep an eye on those pilots - make sure we don't become and episode of Air Crash Investigation!!! Bring on Wednesday, 22/10.
