@@foodfighter I want to address what you're saying about pain and discomfort during eating.
I most definitely experience eating differently than prior to surgery. One of the things wls surgery does is it removes a hormone responsible for eventual satiety from our stomachs. Wls patients feel fullness within minutes while normal people feel it only after 20 minutes or so. So right away, eating is a less pleasurable experience because one feels full so quickly.
The sense of restriction or tightness I feel is not painful but it's not pleasant either. It feels like work to get food to pass. It takes work to eat. Chewing slowly, eating slowly. It feels like a task. Before surgery I ate mindlessly while distracted. I rarely tuned in to what I was eating but became lost in the sensation of pleasure. Now I am forced to eat mindfully and the pleasure factor is way down. It's like... If I had been a Heroin addict (just an analogy!) and someone made it impossible for me to get pleasure from the drug... But I still had to use it to stay alive... It would become a tedious task overshadowed by the memory of what it used to do for me.
Eating can be slightly painful for me. If I eat too fast... If I have drunk liquids near to the meal (which I admit I find very difficult not to do), if I don't chew enough, if it's a dense substance... All of these factors and more can effect how it feels to me to eat. I also find eating with little to no appetite kind of painful in a way. More repulsive than anything but definitely not pleasurable.
And then there is some mental anxiety and turmoil going on when I'm wondering if I am going to dump from the meal. If I'm in company or put in public this is a real concern for me.
And then there is always a level of anxiety related to weight gain. I can push that aside to some extent and of course some foods are easier than others... But I live with at least some amount of anxiety related to food at every meal. Being anxious while eating definitely drives pleasure in the food down.
So all these factors put together for me create an unpleasant experience when eating. When eating used to be my drug of choice, it's now a task. I'm not saying all meals are completely devoid of pleasure but most of them are more work than anything. It's the reality of how this surgery has effected me. Food just doesn't do it for me anymore.
    But that was the point.
And would I go back to how it was before? No way. Not in a million years.

@@bellabloom I have same problem only worse I can't get no more then 1200 cal a day. 10 months from surgery. Now I'm at 119 for 5,6 I try to eat and push food but I can't it hurts, I been dealing with strictures, I went to a different Bariatric center and they said everything is ok mechanically. So they thing is the strictures that cause so much restriction. Last baloonplasty in December. But I still can't eat a complete meal. Bellabloom if you eat 1800 cal a day you should be staring getting. Also my doctor told me it will take time to gain weight , is not like a magic switch.

Try different kinds of protein until you find what you like. At that stage is normal to feel nauseated, Premier Protein chocolate what I used. I tried the protein waters and was terrible to me. Keep trying just make sure on sugar content. And sugar alcohol. Make lentil Soup and drink the soup of it or blend it. Split peas soup, they are pretty easy to make

Don't know but since they enlarge a little during my endoscopy I can eat better. Also I stop Protein Shakes and bars I think those make me feel sick. Still I feel restriction when I eat. I'm honestly try to push a little but I get sick so I stop before feeling full. Around 1000 cal a day. Protein first. I really think my pouch it's too small. I'll go for second opinion on Jan 7

I'm struggling with this problem also. I can't eat more then 800:900 calories a day, I feel very weak. I'm 121 lbs for 5"5. Start weight 240, bypass March 2015. My surgeon really think everything mechanically is working. We did a endoscopy, ct scan, but I still can't eat much, he ask the psychologist to see me. I'm really worried at this point. My goal should be 135 lbs so How to get this 15 lbs back? On a stressful day like yesterday I only eat 500 cal. Any suggestion is welcomed. Also I'm going to UCLA Bariatrics for a second opinion in February .

foodfighter78 reacted to catwoman7 in Possible Stricture?
you might want to come up with some plan to reduce the chances of this happening again. Constipation is *really* common after surgery. Try some different treatments or combos of treatments and see what works for you. Things I've heard others use (in addition to what's already been mentioned here), a shot of Miralax every day or two, magnesium citrate tablets, stool softeners (such as Colace) - I can't remember what else - but there are several. For the last three months (after having been through a couple of months of constipation hell), I've taken Benefiber twice a day, 800 mg of magnesium citrate (400 mg in the morning and 400 mg in the evening), and a dose of Miralax twice a week whether I need it or not. I haven't had a problem in three months. But my routine may not work for others - you have to experiment and see what does the trick for you.

Easy way out hahaha after surgery there are so many possible complications I feel like in a ticking bomb. Anytime I have a pain, I feel sick, get constipated, get diarrhea etc etc but it's all worth it. Do it for yourself. But it's not easy

I went to ER, they did a ct scan I'm impacted with stool on colon and intestines, maybe that's where the pain is coming from. I'm trying to use enemas, dulcolax and 100% prune juice no sugar add diluted with Water. This morning I weight 121 lbs kind of scary.
